I should have specified, it could be through someone you personally know, for instance my good friends brother was abused at scout camp.

Yes it would be helpful if you could be more specific in your posts. You do tend to over generalize which causes you to reach some unwarranted conclusions.

Sorry, I'll work on that.

This was on my local news last night. Interesting if you read through it that the Romney campaign asked the Boy Scouts to be there for both Romney and Ryan's visits. So really not exactly the local scout troops fault. They were probably very excited.

The election is over do not even worry about voting! :clapping:How many voters can this guy isolate? Come on buddy lets go for 80%...

Which explains this attack on the Boy Scouts.

Trying to force a correlation that there have been boys abused at scout camp and that scouting must be bad is just bad logic. It is similar to when several years ago a representative of the National Organization of Women stated that it was good that men attended a promise keepers conference because women would be saved from abuse that night of the week.

Men as a gender have nothing to do with women being abused. Individuals abuse others regardless of their gender or their location. Abuse occurs when an individual that is predisposed to such actions are provided with the opportunity. The only way to shut down every potential opportunity is to put each individual in a sterile bubble where all are prevented from getting close to one another. It is not a feasible alternative and such a choice is devoid of any understanding of the value and importance of being together in community and social structures such as a family.

The choice is not to prevent young men from participating in Boy Scouts, it is to teach young men that they are responsible for their body and if anyone attempts to violate that body to react appropriately: run to an adult, scream, say NO, whatever it takes to prevent any sexual abuse.

Intel Ends Donations to Boy Scouts Because of Antigay Policy

The Boy Scouts of America has lost its largest corporate donor, Intel, which announced todaythat it will stop giving to the group unless it vows to stop discriminating against gay people.
"The $700,000 in funding from the Intel Foundation was donated to local Boy Scout troops or councils where our employees volunteer their time, through our volunteer matching grants program," said Chief Diversity Officer Rosalind Hudnell in the ThinkProgress report. "Due to significant growth in the number of organizations funded, earlier this year we revisited our policies associated with the program, and applied new rigor that requires any organization to confirm that it adheres to Intel’s anti-discrimination policy in order to receive funding."
"Companies that support the LGBT community simply can’t be in the business of funding organizations that discriminate," Wahls said in a statement. "Frankly, by sending this message, Intel is upholding the true spirit of Scouting better than the BSA is today."

I hope kids have finally been taught over and over to say no, scream, run or fight like hell and tell an adult.

When I was in the fifth grade there was an old man that would hand out candy and even money to girls to get them to come in his house when we were walking home from school. I would tell him I was a boy so he wouldn't touch me. The last time we were to ever go there he exposed himself. I never told my parents. Probably because I thought I was in the wrong. That's what we need to change in kids minds.

I bet everyone knows atleast someone that has been abused at scout camp. And the same could be said about women and sexual abuse. With the statistic being 1 in 3 women that are affected by some kind of sexual abuse. I hope one day that the cycle of abuse will be stop, hopefully with our generation, but that's probably not going to happen.

I do not know anyone who has been sexually abused at scout camp. I do know people who have been sexually abused in many different situations, but not scout camp. I don't think everyone knows someone who has been abused specifically at scout camp, even in the round about way.

Scout Leaders in my Council are told "If a youth comes to you and tells ypu about abuse, you fist call the Council executive ." Not sure why the scout exec wanted to be called first, but the policy sure did not sit well with some people.

Can't imagine why. Sounds like the functional equivalent of the LDS abuse hotline, where leaders can get direction how to respond to the information received in accordance with local law.

Of course it is fine and dandy to discriminate against organizations that believe marriage is between a man and a woman.

The Boys Scouts discriminates against gays. Intel discriminates against the Boys Scout. What isn't to love?

You must have the article about Intel confused with some other article. What do boyscouts, Intel donations have to do withmarriage?

Do you think the LDS Church would cut funding to recipient that was doing things the Church disagreed with? If you answer yes, does that make your protestantion against Intel hallow?

Another coward caving in to a bully.

Sad stuff.

I'm not sure how such decisions are made in a corporation, but if the Boy Scout policy honestly offends their corporate views on the matter, then it is not cowardice to bring their donation policy in line with those views.

Obviously I wish they would continue to support the Boy Scouts, but as a business owner myself, I make contributions to several different groups, and I don't consider my partners and me to be cowards when we don't contribute money to groups that we disagree with.

However, they were comfortable donating for several years til the bully groups started in on them. They definitely don't seem to have the intestinal fortitude of Chic-fil-a.

Chick-fil-a is privately owned which gives them a bit more leeway. However after the appreciation day crowds their decision seems to have been a good one financially as well as morally.

Cannot get past the DNC crowd booing the Boy Scout Honor Guard at their national convention . . .

precisely over the issue of homosexual scoutmasters . . . which is indistinguishable from the instant one politically. Of course then it was the then pending lawsuit by the bullies against the BSA.

I allow corporations, as well as people, to change their minds. And while I don't agree with their change in support for the BSA, I think it is possible for someone to disagree with the BSA policy on homosexuals without having "caved in to a bully."

ErayE, does chic-fila have a similar policy as intel.

I don't know ErayE but I'll ask the question. What are you talking about?

Posted

Erayr, CFA's charitable arm is Winshape, winshape sponsors couples retreats but prohibits same sex couples...this would pretty much mean that CFA does not have a policy of not donating to groups which discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation; however Intel does have a policy of not donating to groups that discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation.

So your comparison of CFA to Intel is meaningless, because there is no comparison. Do you think the church would continue to fund something it discovered violated church policies?
