Why would someone send money to Maine?

Because they are maine-iacs, silly! ;)

I get emails ocassionally from him as well. I sent in some cash as well and got bupkus in return, except for these emails

Two for two.

Not good.

I feel very honored and humbled by the fact that my article on 1 Nephi 11 appears as the initial publication in the new academic journal edited by my friend and former professor Daniel Peterson, a man for whom I hold tremendous respect, both as a person and as a scholar. It's only appropriate, in a sense, since the issues that I address involve matters connected with celestial ascents, a topic I was first exposed to many years ago as an undergraduate in my favorite BYU course: a class on celestial ascents in religious literature taught by Dan, and William Hamblin.

As I understand it, new articles will appear weekly until each volume of the journal is completed. It's a brilliant format and Bryce Haymond has done an amazing job in bringing the whole thing together.

Pretty good...

Guess it's time to put my money where my mouth is and send in a donation (to the Interpreter, not SMPT). I think there's some very interesting stuff in the pipeline that they're going to be publishing.

Are you referring to the new on-line journal? I accessed it free, no problem. And I was at the conference and heard Dan say it is free.

I shot a picture ofDan holding up the covers of th new journal. I'd post it here but it belongs to the Deseret News.

What new journal?

I don't live in Utah- this stuff is not on the 11o'clock news where I live. ;)

Kudos on the design, not to mention Bokovoy's article. One thing I've not seen was any information on submissions. Is that something not being pushed yet?

I know that they have a lot of articles lined up, but I'm sure anything from you would jump to the front of the list as soon as possible. You can even send me an article and I would be happy to forward it on (please recognize this as a not-so-subtle encouragement to put some of your outstanding observations and background into print).

The new Interpreter journal is online, working, and is 100% free in 6 formats, and 9 subscription (feed) options. The print-on-demand format, for professionally printed and bound hard copies, costs a minimal amount that covers cost only.

Interpreter does have operational costs, however, so it is accepting donations:

For some background on Interpreter, I've written this up:

The design is very attractive, Bryce. I'm very excited.

Looking forward to more content.

It looks great.

Does anyone know if SMPT still exists?

I sent them a check a couple of months ago and they still have not signed me up. I got back an email saying they would but no results even with me sending them another email.

Was that tied in somehow with the Maxwell Institute?

Just finished reading your article and, as usual, it has inspired me to look deeper into some of my own research including the concept of astral ascent among shamanistic cultures. Could Nephi and Lehi been considered a form of shaman and, if so, what would it say about all the other ecstatic prophets?

Was That from Greg Kofford Books? Might want to alert the mods it looks like a scam. I got PM from him on this SMPT thing.

It's not 10 o'clock here yet, and it was only announced late this pm.

In his FAIR Conference address Dan announced a new on-line journal, a replacement of sorts for the late, great FARMS Review.

Awesome! You and I have expressed similar thoughts about a way to understand Joseph Smith. Keep me posted, my friend.

Oh that is nice.

Hope all parties involved have learned a valuable lesson. Valuable lessons are what they are. They are just as pricey as they are good ;)

Glad to see that things are rolling along.

Hopefully no one will get excommunicated, hung, gassed, drawn and quartered and so forth.. as they endeavor to persevere.

Best wishes on the new project.

Thank you! There have been several people that have asked this question about submissions. We don't know, yet.

I am going to perform an amazing feat of mind-reading and pronounce this a spoof on a certain poster's style.

Isn't Bokovoy's article more the type for JBMORS, rather than the Review? Is this trying to replace the review, or JBMORS? I guess I'm confused at what niche this is supposed to fall into, having missed Peterson's Big Speech.

Dan said it would not be exclusively apologetics. FARMS Review wasn't either, for that matter.

Is JBMORS continuing unaltered under Bradford's new regime? I haven't heard.

If not, the new journal may be filling both niches.

Thanks for the encouragement. I've actually got an idea I've been working on, which could fill in the blanks of a JST issue.

Maybe there has been a change in administration and there is some confusion with who is supposed to be dealing with what.

Website does look down. There is a conference scheduled for Sept. in Logan, but I could only get to the cached version.

Looks like Dan Peterson is still on the board, maybe he has info or can contact someone to find out.

The Board has said that they will accept submissions to Interpreter. Details will be forthcoming.

The latter.

Is there anything that you can add that might enlighten the rest of the crew? There are a lot of us who were not there and are trying to piece together an accurate picture.

Thanks,

Glenn

That has nothing to do with SMPT that I can see. Did I miss something?
