Is there a need to be so esoteric about it?

Well... only if there is a need to be political when discussing a political issue, or academic when discussing an academic issue.

So yes, I suppose this means there is a need.

I apologize for any inconvenience with which my expose about you and herr bro Peterson are actually old. I know, I sincerely know I wasn't suppose to spill the beans, and truly, without question or consternation, I feel very badly about said indiscretion, hence, my offer of amends by sometime coming back down to Utah as I can and buying you lunch or dinner....... that way we old duffs can figure out a way to catch up to the youthful and ever vibrant Bokovoys of the world, eh?

If I could remember where I put my cane I'd hobble over and sack you with it!

I may be out of date, others can correct me if I am wrong, but in the past videos of FAIR conference talks were not posted online for free immediately after the conference as we use them as part of the fundraising efforts. youtube vids of past conferences appear to go up to 2006 so far: http://en.fairmormon.org/Topical_Guide/Multimedia_presentations/Videos/YouTube/FAIR_Conference

Transcripts are being put up as quickly as they can, some are already available: http://www.fairlds.org/fair-conferences/2012-fair-conference

They actually get posted 2 years after they are given. If you go to the FAIR Youtube site, you will be able to find every past conference given up until 2009, soon to be 2010.

I just finished reading David Bokovoy's excellent article. There were a few things that stood out to me as particularly delightful.

I was fascinated by the way he links two different meanings of the word "witness" together, expanding my understanding of Ether 12:6.

“And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith” (Ether 12:6)."

I can definitely see how the word "witness" in this scripture could be interpreted as both a spiritual manifestation and as a divine personage (most likely the Holy Ghost) testifying of the worthiness of the individual after he/she has been questioned.

I also found this idea insightful and something that I had not really considered before:

While it is natural for Latter-day Saints to recognize that the Holy Ghost serves as an official witness of truth for man, in the administration of God, the Holy Ghost also functions as a witness or testator of man for God.

As explained in the article, this idea fits in very nicely with the concept of the Holy Ghost as the Holy Spirit of Promise.

Thanks Dr. Bokovoy, for all your insights! I enjoyed reading your article.

(P.S. Just as a relatively insignificant side note, I noticed that the Psalm of Nephi was twice referred to as 2 Nephi chapter 5, but it's actually chapter 4. I would know, because it's my favourite scripture in the Book of Mormon! ^_^ )

Thank you for the kind words, and for catching that mistake. The article was professionally edited, however, due the fact that we wanted the article to appear before the FAIR Conference, the process was a bit rushed. I'm grateful for the correction. Despite the time restraints. hopefully, there aren't too many of them, but to the extent that they appear, I take full responsibility, and the editors will be correcting them online as they're identified. That's part of the beauty of an online journal.

If it is I apologize, but I feel that a person who is given such high praise who I feel has questionable motives should be addressed. But apparently I misstepped.

Several of these off topic posts have been removed to make it easier to navigate the thread.

Whether he needs to be addressed or not is hardly the issue... the issue is whether you should do it in a thread that has nothing to with your opinion of him, but, rather, has everything to do with a new publication.
