1 Nephi 22:7

7 And it meaneth that the time cometh that after all the house of Israel have been scattered and confounded, that the Lord God will raise up a mighty nation among the Gentiles, yea, even upon the face of this land; and by them shall our seed be scattered.

A Mighty Nation. Must be in Central America.

Would you explain a few passages.

"And it came to pass that I saw among the nations of the Gentiles the formation of a great church. And the angel said

unto me: Behold the formation of a church which is most abominable above all other churches, which slayeth the saints

of God, yea, and tortureth them and bindeth them down, and yoketh them with a yoke of iron, and bringeth them down

into captivity"

What church formed among the nations of the Gentiles and what is the timing of the killing of these saints? Were

there any saints in the period of the total and great apostasy?

"And I beheld the Spirit of the Lord, that it was upon the Gentiles, and they did prosper and obtain the land for their

inheritance; and I beheld that they were white, and exceedingly fair and beautiful, like unto my people before they

were slain".

Who are the Gentiles and is "America" the land of their inheritance?

Thanks,

Jim

Whatever the abominable church was (a religious or secular body) or where it was located, it had massive implications on the descendants of Lehi, and I believe the entire world. The setting seems to be after the ministry of Christ, where the children of the covenant were subjected to the sovereignty of a Gentile nation. Killing the saints could refer to more than martyrdom, but to a loss of priesthood keys among them, as with a loss of the keys, there were no saints in the sense of any members of a living church.

The Gentiles could be any non-covenant sovereignty, and the land for Lehi and descendants is across the waters from wherever the Gentiles came from. While many places on the earth could fit this description (or the one above), the ramifications certainly impact America as well as any other place. But where the Book of Mormon came forth from a locale in New York (and in consideration of my earlier post), we can reasonably trace the involvement of America in these scriptures.

Get the book "Coming of the Lord" by Gerald Lund. It contains a plethora of scripture references, scriptural commentary, and statements from modern prophets regarding the end times.

After reading this I get the impression that

1) The US as we know it will not survive for long into the end times. In fact, its fall may trigger the beginning of it.

2) The Latter-Day Saints will hold up the Constitution as an ensign for all people to see as a sign that God still provides justice to freedom loving people everywhere.

3) The primary function of the US was to provide a place where the Church organaization could be restored and be given a chance for survival.

4) As we build Zion, we're not building it for just the LDS. We are doing so for the entire world's God fearing people to have a safe haven during the end times.

A good sign that the end times are near:

Are we in a position to say that if there is a God fearing person anywhere on this planet, that they will either be isolated on their own, or will have the option of coming to the LDS for shelter? I don't know with exactness. But we are pretty well situated right now when the world at large is not.

Thank you for the suggestion. I just purchased it through Amazon.

My thinking is that some rogue nation will figure out how to target the USA with an EMP, causing technological failures throughout the country...and then allied with more powerful enemies will lay waste to the land...I'm in the process of writing a fiction series myself...

I haven't read Lund's book. Guess I will have to find an inexpensive copy and read it. I have had a very similar understanding for maybe 30 years now. I could never figure what could happen to the most powerful nation on earth to have it drop clear out of sight like that. Recent political and economic developments makes it perfectly clear to me what is happening. The political and economic power of the US is being systematically destroyed and is now hanging by the thinnest of cords.

Be careful it may become prophetic.

It would have to be multiple EMPs.

We are tied economically to the internet etc. Recently near here there was a fire in a central hub in one building. That fire and the subsequent water damage shut down a major chunk of the province, both public and private.Hospitals,communication,gov.offices etc. in the area were disrupted. Imagine if large centers were unable to conduct any financial transactions for say a month.Chaos, here we come!

IN light of that it could give new meaning to God's confounding the language at the tower of Babel.

A man-made EMP won't do it. I know I'll get the "but this guy says..." from many people. Believe me. I've read every opinion out there or at least a variant of it. Too many experts disagree on how effective or how powerful various EMPs will be in a real world setting. Heck, they even disagree on the interpretations of the Starfish Prime test.

Unless it is a solar flare, we just cannot get wiped out by a single weapon. It would have to be many very large nuclear explosions to bring down the US.

This is why I believe only a natural event will produce an EMP that will trigger the fall of the US.

Or it could be that the entire world will come together against us (like the Boys from the Mountain prophecy).

Or the political economic perils that now face us will destroy us from within.

If you use the Book of Mormon as the archetype of how we will fall, we will be destroyed from within and from without. I don't recall any natural disasters destroying the Nephite nation. But I don't know how closely we will parallel that fall, so...

Does modern revelation tell us what role America will play in the dark days before the second coming?

Wili it suvive?

Will it be conqured by it's enemies?

Will it be a force for good or evil?

Which America? South America, Central America, Meso-America, Norte America, or Mexico? Or all of the above?

I guess I'm okay with the church de-emphasizing (I'm guessing) the Adam-ondi-Ahman and Jackson County mess. Other than that, is America even relevant to the traditionally held beliefs by Jews and Christians concerning the end of days?

In other faiths? Nope.

In fact one of the most common worries amongst end-timer rapture evangelicals of the "Left Behind" -style groups is finding out what will happen to the U.S. near the end. There is almost always a thread about this in any end-times forum I have visited. Problem is the Bible is pretty much completely silent on this. Luckily LDS have Nephi's visions to discuss the fate of the Old World, the New World, and the whole world. :)

In my opinion there will be two groups, those with the mark of the beast (what ever the mark may be) and those with out the mark. There will be people slaying with the sword and being slain with the sword; the patience of the Saints - and I would add the patience of all those who honestly await a Messiah. So for me, it does not matter whether a specific Country can be alluded too, what matters to me, is knowing what I am those under my stewardship need to do to say on the right path.

Before I was LDS I was taught that US America, along with Britain in the last days is Israel, that the US was represented in last day prophetic scripture by Israel. The country Israel was represented by Judah.

Where are you from? I have never once heard this. That is an interesting belief though I don't necessarily believe it is validated in scripture.

I'm from So Cal. Gene Scott taught what I was talking about along with the Lost 10 Tribes. He passed away a few years ago. I don't necessarily believe it now either. But sometimes it makes sense in Ezekiel, Isaiah and the later OT prophets. It's been since the early 80's so I really don't remember that much about it. His daughter may have some of his talks available online but she prolly wants money for them. Dr Scott was an excellent teacher though, riight after we studied with him the missionaries came to the door and we were primed and ready to receive them.

There's also the parallel symbolism of Israel's family being led to the Land of Egypt to be saved - by Joseph - due to a drought.

And of the Tribe of Joseph, both the Nephites and Joseph Smith, who were descendants of Joseph, being led to the America's, to restore the Tribe of Israel through the Restoration of the Gospel - due to a drought of knowledge (The Great Apostasy).
