cdowis Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 (edited) I cannot remember a thread on the three Nephites.Anyone have a good story to share with us?I remember in the movie "17 Miracles" there were stories of mysterious individuals who followed and assisted the company. One of them had a conversation with a member of the party and told her that he was a fellow traveler. Edited March 3, 2012 by cdowis
Freedom Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 All I can say on the matter is I have no idea what purpose they would serve. A mortal can minister as well as a translated being. To me, wondering on the earth for thousands of years would be a miserable existence. It would be like being stuck in high school.
cinepro Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 I like this comment in the Gospel Doctrine Teacher's Manual for the lesson on the Three Nephites:Note: Stories often circulate about the three Nephites who were translated. Members of the Church should be careful about accepting or retelling these stories. You should not discuss them in class. But online is okay, so have at it!

altersteve Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 (edited) I don't believe the Three Nephites have been wandering around on earth all this time. I'm sure they are like any other angel. The only difference is that they didn't experience the separation of their spirit from their physical body.I like the movie Baptists at Our Barbecue, though, where the Three Nephites are depicted as mechanics. I thought that was funny. Edited March 4, 2012 by altersteve
blackstrap Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 There was a thread on the 3 Nephites started by Duncan 4 weeks ago.I gave my 2 cents er. stories, on that.
BCSpace Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I know that some anti Mormons use them to "prove" that the priesthood really wasn't taken from the earth because they were still here. I counter by saying, so you accept the Book of Mormon and the LDS Priesthood? 1

cdowis Posted March 4, 2012 Author Posted March 4, 2012 I know that some anti Mormons use them to "prove" that the priesthood really wasn't taken from the earth because they were still here. I counter by saying, so you accept the Book of Mormon and the LDS Priesthood? They are clueless. They do not understand the difference between the priesthood and the keys to exercise the priesthood. But that does not stop them from telling us what we believe.

Judd Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I have it on good word that **** Clark and Fidel Castro are two of the three.
JAHS Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Someone wrote a book called "About the Three Nephites. There ia a review of it here which mentions other writings about the subject:http://maxwellinstitute.byu.edu/publications/review/?vol=5&num=1&id=113

One of my favorite tales (true) from my mission is challenging an antagonistic Baptist woman to take the discussions if we could show her, in her own Bible, where it says baptism saves us. She agreed and so we showed her 1 Peter 3:21 in her KJV. She immediately ripped the page out and said "It's not in my Bible." whereupon we immediately quoted Revelation 22:19. Of course, no discussions ever materialized from that encounter.
KevinG Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I just hope they are keeping diaries. On metal plates... ye shall know them by their step van.
Xander Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Ever since Spencer Kimball published his story about Cain the Sasquatch, you hear more and more stories about people having encounters with him and the three Nephites. On my mission this one woman had an amazing story about the three Nephites who appeared to her non-LDS husband when the missionaries knock on her door. She said he slammed the door and called her and told her he said he would allow only the Elders to come over, not five people. Apparently he said there were three huge individuals standing behind the elders dressed in white. The Elders said they arrived alone.Like the fish that kept getting bigger, the story took on a life of its own. But what amazed me was that no one doubted the story, in any of its forms. This story earned this woman status in the ward as a highly spiritual person, since, the three Nephites were taking time out of their busy schedule to make an impression on her husband. I sorta miss the Mormon culture of mythmaking. It was fun in its own peculiar way.
cdowis Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 I think they are simply helping people in unusual situations.Cannot remember the details, but a Christian doctor wrote about his experiences in Bangladesh (East Paskistan) several decades ago. There was political turmoil, and his small hospital was threatened. The hospital, staff and patients were protected by a unusual individual under remarkable circumstances (nothing supernatural). I will look around for his book, but I distinctly felt that this was one of the Nephites at work. I was impressed by the feeling that they are working in many parts of the world. In this case it was not a major event, but just helping a good doctor protect his hospital and patients from those who wanted to destroy them.
Xander Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I think they are simply helping people in unusual situationsBy lying? By intentionally making up nonsense for the purpose of "uplifting" people? The end justifies the means?
