Prayers Please

My son was born last June. Due to some rare and undiagnosed immune disorder he has never left the hospital. A few days ago he aqcuired a virus and a septic blood infection of enterococcous. It appears to be a very resistant strand and his immune system is very suppressed by drugs. He has been moved from the bone marrow transplant floor to the ICU. Everyone around here is nervous. Your prayers for a miraculous recovery would be appreciated. His name is Seth.

I am amazed by your family! My son was in the hospital for just a week when he was born and I could hardly stand it. I can't imagine 11 months! I'm praying for you guys every day.

Seth is a great name. Being a parent and grandparent, I know it is easier to be sick than to have one of your babies sick...it is an heart breaking pain and my prayers are with you and all who are affected.

Seth is doing much better. He is out of the ICU now. Thanks for your prayers! Unfortunately, we still have no answers for his underlying condition. The doctors are now in a gridlock about whether he should go home for a while or whether we should move on to a bone marrow transplant. Both options are risky and potentially fatal (50% chance at best on bone marrow transplant, and going home it will likely just be a matter of time unless he is miraculous healed). Needless to say, this is the most difficult situation and decision we have ever faced. We are really hoping for some answers and some divine guidance!

Good News!

Are you able to move ahead immediately with the transplant if that is the decision? IOW do you have a donor already available? I cannot imagine the hell family goes through when on waiting lists.

Fortunately his brother is a perfect match. We just had a big discussion with the doctors. It's clear they don't all see eye to eye on how to proceed. At this point they are looking at trying to wean him off steroids and immunosuppression and get him ready to come home for a while. The bone marrow transplant is still a possibility, but they are not quite ready to do that without a clear diagnosis. The gamble is, of course, that he could get sick and die before he could get a needed bone marrow transplant if we drag it out too long. We're hoping for some clear answers very soon so that the way forward, though difficult, will at least be clear.
