D&C 110: 11

11 After this vision closed, the heavens were again opened unto us; and Moses appeared before us, and committed unto us the keys of the gathering of Israel from the four parts of the earth, and the leading of the ten tribes from the land of the north.

So where is the â??land to the northâ?? I know that when Israel split (the â??kingdom of Israelâ?) it was the tribes in the â??northâ? that were lost.

Britain and Scandinavia.

I have seen this line of thinking as well. The fact is we simply don't know, otherwise the tribes wouldn't be lost - GRIN!

I have a nephew who was adopted from Russia. His patriarchal blessing says he's from the tribe of Benjamin.

Joseph Smith taught that "the Ten Tribes of Israel are on a portion of land separate from this earth."

Brigham Young was asked, in 1859, if the explorations into northern Canada would result in the discovery of the Ten Tribes and their eventual return.

His reply was,

"The nations will have nothing to do with the preparing of the way for their return. But when the time has come for their return, the Lord will do the work. They are on a portion of earth separated from this globe in the north which cannot be seen from this earth."

Hope that helps.

Benjamin was NOT one of the 10 Tribes that were lost.

Judah and Benjamin and much of Levi remained after the time of Solomon as the Kingdom of Judah. They were scattered later, but not with the 10 tribes.

But you knew this, actually.

If this were true, you would think that the photographs of the earth from the various Apollo missions would have revealed it.

I have also heard speculation that the lost tribes are "in the earth" -- do a Google search on "hollow earth" for elaboration on that notion. (I do not intend my reference to this notion to be advocacy nor ridicule thereof; it's just something about which I've heard people speculate. It sounds pretty "out there" to me, but I also am reluctant to place any limits on the power of God concerning His creation.)

I know I have always been intrigued by the language employed in D&C 133 concerning the re-appearance of the lost tribes:

21 And he shall utter his voice out of Zion, and he shall speak from Jerusalem, and his voice shall be heard among all people;

22 And it shall be a voice as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder, which shall break down the mountains, and the valleys shall not be found.

23 He shall command the great deep, and it shall be driven back into the north countries, and the islands shall become one land;

24 And the land of Jerusalem and the land of Zion shall be turned back into their own place, and the earth shall be like as it was in the days before it was divided.

25 And the Lord, even the Savior, shall stand in the midst of his people, and shall reign over all flesh.

26 And they who are in the north countries shall come in remembrance before the Lord; and their prophets shall hear his voice, and shall no longer stay themselves; and they shall smite the rocks, and the ice shall flow down at their presence.

27 And an highway shall be cast up in the midst of the great deep.

28 Their enemies shall become a prey unto them,

29 And in the barren deserts there shall come forth pools of living water; and the parched ground shall no longer be a thirsty land.

30 And they shall bring forth their rich treasures unto the children of Ephraim, my servants.

31 And the boundaries of the everlasting hills shall tremble at their presence.

32 And there shall they fall down and be crowned with glory, even in Zion, by the hands of the servants of the Lord, even the children of Ephraim.

That is some pretty specific prophecy in many respects. It also seems to hint, perhaps, at some rather significant geologic upheavals. But I don't claim to know what it means, nor do I speculate about it. However, I agree with Kerry, if we knew where they were, they wouldn't be "lost." :P

Although I love him dearly, I do disagree with the notion contained in The Nehor's reply: in my judgment, the "lost tribes" could not be from Britain and Scandinavia. Those places seem to have been the stopping place for Ephraim, who is certainly one of the tribes that were scattered, but who falls into a very separate category when it comes to scriptural references. At least that has been my interpretation. I have always regarded the restoration and gathering of Ephraim as something independent of the remaining lost tribes of Israel. As cited above, the "lost tribes" will bring forth their "rich treasures" unto the children of Ephraim. Obviously, they are considered separate entities.

I do hope I'm still around when this mystery is solved. That will be a great time to be alive!

I have known LDS who believe in an inner-Earth location of the 10 tribes. Here is a book on the matter if you are interested in the idea. I do not necessarily recommend this book. But I do not completely reject the idea. I am convinced the "scientific" rejectionws of this I have seen do not consider all the possibilities.

The Ten Lost Tribes, A People of Destiny

Dr. Clay McConkie Dr. Clay McConkie, with B.A. in history and a Ph.D. in education, declares in his recently released book, The Ten Lost Tribes, A People of Destiny, that after a thorough analysis of all scriptural references to the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel that the scriptures indicate that the lost tribes ..."are presently living in a locality not on the earth, but somewhere in the earth... in ...an area capable of accommodating a relatively large civilization of people and keeping them hidden from the world for more than twenty-five centuries." He points out that scripture indicates that this large area inside the earth must be where most of the water came from that covered the earth's surface at the time of Noah's flood, and that the exit point in the Arctic must also be the entrance to inner earth that the Lost Tribes took when they disappeared into the north country 25 centuries ago and from which they will someday soon reappear with great fanfare to help spread the Kingdom of God throughout the earth in preparation for the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Dr. McConkie's reasoning, analysis and conclusions of the scriptural references fit the Hollow Earth Theory amazingly well as the most logical present location of the Lost Ten Tribes of Israel.

Job 26:7 says:

He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing

The opening may be clogged with rock and ice as D&C 133:26 suggests, and would be hard to detect from space.

Also, the expedition that was planning to find the entrance to the Hollow Earth (but is now cancelled) says that most plausible location for an opening is at 84.4 N Latitude, 141 E. Longitude, and NOT right at the pole.

I agree that the scriptures do seem to predict that at least some of the 10 tribes will be a separate people from our civilization.

Plus can you imagine how the people would respond. The Prophets lead you off to a promised land and you end up in.....Canada. Stoning the Prophet would follow.

If a translated piece of land is removed from the earth, we would obviously be able to tell?

If that statement is true, then why haven't we found proof of where the City of Enoch was?

It is my belief that when a righteous city or the like is translated and removed, I don't think it'd be very obvious since the Earth has gone through extensive changes since..like Christ's death which preceded great earthquakes and all that.

The earth is not like it was, more like a puzzle whose pieces have been mixed up and some of them taken away. imo

I've heard tell that Joseph Smith taught the city of Enoch was taken from the Gulf of Mexico.

I don't think this is a reference that supports the notion of the Ten Tribes comming out of the north polar regions. I think it more likely that lands farther north that experience a winter more strongly pronounced than that of the middle east proper are being referenced here. So we could still be in the area of Sourthern Europe/Turkey/southern Russia/Iran/Afghanistan etc. Some of these areas are the lands of Gog and Magog in Jewish tradition are they not?

I know I have always been intrigued by the language employed in D&C 133 concerning the re-appearance of the lost tribes: That is some pretty specific prophecy in many respects. It also seems to hint, perhaps, at some rather significant geologic upheavals.

The D&C Institute manual retains the notion that it was the continents that were broken up in the days of Peleg and it is the continents that will come together in D&C 133. Therefore, it is LDS doctrine. However, I personally don't accept this interpretation and think it's a case of speculation based more on traditional beliefs rather than revelation.

I've heard something similar, although I didn't hear it being attributed to Joseph Smith, until now that is.

It's interesting to think about, regardless. :P

i think its pretty clear that after they went northword; they were then scattered as were the rest of the tribes. {among all nations} :P

I am sure once we find them, it will only take a generation before we pillage their society and have them integrate into our sinful ways of life. Heck I bet we are so strong we could corrupt the city of Enoch in a matter of days.

I'm sure Brigham Young hadn't a clue either, so he just gave us his best guess. I guess he's one to forget to take off his mantle from time to time.

Yes it helps. It help my little cause quite a bit.

The Land of the North was Assyria. The Bible specifically says that they were scattered about the Assyrian Kingdom. From Egypt to the Persian Gulf. As far north as the Black Sea. They didn't even have a clue that the British Isles and Scandinavia existed--that was barbarian territory.

They were settled mainly on the Afghan and Transcaucasian frontiers (though according to some Yeminte traditions, in Arabia as well). Some went into Afghanistan and beyond, the rest went up north through Armenia, where they remained for a while. There is still a mountain pass refered to as the Jewish Gates. There are several paths they could take, the route of the present-day Georgian Military Highway is the easiest. That would have led them up the Terek, along the Kuban onto the Don and Volga.

There are several intriguing tidbis about the Slavs too.

If this were the case then maybe this while global warming thing with ice shelves breaking off and glaciers dissappearing is a lead up to the appearance of the 10 lost tribes as the hole gets opened!.... Like someone here said it would be a cool time to be alive to see this come to pass.....
