Ive always thought that lost meant they were taken captive or left and intermingled with those not of the tribes so eventually they become lost.

I'm with you on this. To me lost means that they lost their identity as part of the House of Israel.

I have known LDS who believe in an inner-Earth location of the 10 tribes. Here is a book on the matter if you are interested in the idea. I do not necessarily recommend this book. But I do not completely reject the idea. I am convinced the "scientific" rejectionws of this I have seen do not consider all the possibilities.

The Ten Lost Tribes, A People of Destiny

Job 26:7 says:

So where is the â??land to the northâ?? I know that when Israel split (the â??kingdom of Israelâ?) it was the tribes in the â??northâ? that were lost.

The â??land of the northâ? (AKA â??north countryâ?) is a biblical term referring to the place where the northern kingdom of Israel was taken into exile by the Assyrians. It does not refer to a specific geographical location, except that it was somewhere in the North.

Jeremiah 3
:

18 In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the
land of the north
to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.

Jeremiah 16
:

14 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that it shall no more be said, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

15 But, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the
land of the north,
and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.

Jeremiah 23
:

7 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that they shall no more say, The Lord liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

8 But, The Lord liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the
north country,
and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.

Zechariah 2
:

6 Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the
land of the north,
saith the Lord: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the Lord.

D&C 110
:

11 After this vision closed, the heavens were again opened unto us; and Moses appeared before us, and committed unto us the keys of the gathering of Israel from the four parts of the earth, and the leading of the ten tribes from the
land of the north.

I am inclined to agree with Gillebreâ??s quotations. There is another verse in the Bible which seems to support that doctrine:

Deuteronomy 30
:

4 If any of thine be driven out unto the
outmost parts of heaven,
from thence will the Lord thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee.

Well for you hollow earther's and those who believe that the land was "translated" rather than the lost tribes just being scattered, I have to say that I hope you guys are right.

I am a non-believing LDS right now, but I have to say that when a hole opens up to allow the lost tribes to march forth and bring their scriptures, that will be obvious and miraculous enough for me to regain my testimony. Definite absolute fulfilling of prophecy :P

If on the other hand the lost tribes were just scattered, well that is boring, and won't bring me back.

Besides, weren't the lost tribes supposed to bring their own scriptures? Doesn't seem like the scattered among known nations idea supports that.

I Kind off agree with Nehor, I think maybe, Great Britain...the "English" are made up of almost every "people" of Europe.

They were settled mainly on the Afghan and Transcaucasian frontiers (though according to some Yeminte traditions, in Arabia as well). Some went into Afghanistan and beyond, the rest went up north through Armenia, where they remained for a while. There is still a mountain pass refered to as the Jewish Gates. There are several paths they could take, the route of the present-day Georgian Military Highway is the easiest. That would have led them up the Terek, along the Kuban onto the Don and Volga.

There are several intriguing tidbis about the Slavs too.

That sounds logical. I think there is strong DNA evidence too that the some of the Kurds (and a few other ethnic groups) are very closely related to the Jews. I think that where there are Kurds, there is a lost tribe remnant.

Via Gaskill:

Biblical Hebrew had two major words that were frequently translated as "north": tsawfone is defined in lexicons as meaning "dark," "hidden," or "gloomy"; and semole means literally "left hand" (or, by implication, "non-covenant"). An additional Hebrew word that was occasionally rendered "north," mezawreh, means "scatterer."

Of the direction north, one commentator stated that it conjures up "ominous imagery." Another wrote that "the ancients regarded the north as the seat of gloom and darkness." In accordance with the linguistic connotations of the word, anciently the direction north provoked symbolic images of coldness, darkness, obscurity, the land of the dead, night, the region of Lucifer and powers of evil, barbarianism, apostasy, and the judgment of God.

The section continues for a few pages, but this is the basic gist of what north means in the scriptures.

When it says they are in the land of the north, I read that as it would have been seen symbolically - that they became apostate. The physical direction isn't what is important, but the spiritual.

Benjamin was NOT one of the 10 Tribes that were lost.

Judah and Benjamin and much of Levi remained after the time of Solomon as the Kingdom of Judah. They were scattered later, but not with the 10 tribes.

But you knew this, actually.

Richard

I think that depends on what lost means.

I know I have always been intrigued by the language employed in D&C 133 concerning the re-appearance of the lost tribes:

I have too. I think there is much to this reference that is worth looking at specifically. I've also always been intrigued by the apparent speed of the "continental drift" that will take place at the Lord's coming. Not so much a drift...

20 For behold, he shall astand upon the mount of Olivet, and upon the mighty ocean, even the great deep, and upon the islands of the sea, and upon the land of Zion.

21 And he shall autter his voice out of bZion, and he shall speak from Jerusalem, and his cvoice shall be heard among all people;

22 And it shall be a voice as the avoice of many waters, and as the voice of a great bthunder, which shall cbreak down the mountains, and the valleys shall not be found.

23 He shall command the great deep, and it shall be driven back into the north countries, and the aislands shall become one land;

24 And the aland of Jerusalem and the land of bZion shall be turned back into their own place, and the cearth shall be like as it was in the days before it was ddivided.

25 And the Lord, even the Savior, shall astand in the midst of his people, and shall breign over all flesh.

26 And they who are in the anorth countries shall come in remembrance before the Lord; and their prophets shall hear his voice, and shall no longer stay themselves; and they shall bsmite the rocks, and the ice shall flow down at their presence.

27 And an ahighway shall be cast up in the midst of the great deep.

28 Their enemies shall become a prey unto them,

29 And in the abarren deserts there shall come forth pools of bliving water; and the parched ground shall no longer be a thirsty land.

30 And they shall bring forth their rich atreasures unto the children of Ephraim, my servants.

31 And the boundaries of the everlasting ahills shall tremble at their presence.

Definitely Canada.

Canadians are so nice, they've got to be God's people! :P Plus, Canada is to the north of the U.S., where the D&C revelation was received...

I've heard tell that Joseph Smith taught the city of Enoch was taken from the Gulf of Mexico.

He did. He also stated that Noah left from the Carolinas or Kentucky or one of those states, if I remember right.

I've never bought into the hollow earth theory, but if I did, I would imagine illumination would be as easy as a giant glowing Jaredite stone, and heat would probably be geothermal.

The Prophet Jeremiah told us about the House of Israel to be led out of the North country.

(Jere 23:7-:P Included in the dramatic arrival of those in the North will be those scattered

among all contries. But the miraculous arrival from the North will eclipse that of Moses leading

children of Israel out of Egypt with a stretched out arm.

Doctrine and Covenants 133:24-28 also speaks to this. After the continents are turned back

to be like they were before they were divided the prophets of those who are in the North shall

smite the rocks and the ice shall flow down at their presence and a highway shall be cast up in

the midst of the great deep, and their enemies shall be a prey to them. That is why it will be

greater than Moses parting the Red Sea. The rocks and ice will open up from the deep and an

army of Israel shall march out from the bowels of the earth. As if the earth travailed and brought

forth her strength. See Isiaih 66:7. Indeed the earth will be made to bring forth a nation of Zion

suddenly. Probably a ways off still.

There were many seperate migrations after the Northern Kingdom of Israel was taken captive.

It would have only needed to be a handful that went to where a mighty nations returns to tremble

the boundaries of the everlasting hills. D&C 133:31

Personally I can't wait. I hope to see it in my lifetime. Wow!

The lands of the north is the way of describing how the lands are accessed. The lands of the north are the lands on the inside of th eearth. We know that the majority of the ocean waters came from inside the earth at the time of the Noahician flood. We also know that the waters will receed back into the north countries at Christs coming and the lands will become one land again. The prophecy speaks concerning the gathering of the house of Israel from the 4 quarters of the earth (all of the outside surface) and the leading of the lost tribes from the lands in the north (not part of the 4 quarters of the earth. It says that they will smite the rocks and the ice will flow down at their presence and ahighway will be cast up in the midst of the great deep. This means that the lost tribes will break through the north pole entrance, the ice will flow down, and that they will come up out of the ocean.

For those interested, look into the ion polar fountains. According to theory, millions of tons are being shot up out of the poles creating the auroras and that only a "sun type" of reactor could be the cause of the propulsion. Hollow earthers have long held in theory that there is an interior sun at the center of the hollow earth. The light/ energy escaping (not readily visible tot he eye) shoots outward through the polar openings, through tons and tons of ice, and collide with particles int he atmosphere creating the northern and southern lights.

I lived in the former Soviet Union for several years, and there are a number of people there with Patriarchal blessings from some of the "lost" tribes. My guess is that the ten tribes were carried off into Assyria, lost their identity, and many migrated even further north to the Caucuses and what is now Russia and Ukraine.

Does anyone have a new link to Stewart's web page on the tribes? It has patriarchal blessing lineages from different areas of the world (amongst a lot of other interresting things). I checked Cumorah.com, and it looks like it has been removed (the FAIR link to it doesn't work either).
