The Nehor Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Thus, people were born black based on their conduct in the premortal existence.I reject Brigham Young's interpretation of the Policy.
Paul Ray Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Actually it is only hinted at in the statment. Lets look "and that while the details of this principle have not been made known" They prohpets clearly do not have enough to make a final conclusion on it. And even if they did, I can still be entitled to my opinion can I not?Yes, you can, Mola, and I am also with you on that one.Let me put it like this:I'm not completely satisfied with the reasons all of our prophets have given us regarding why blacks didn't receive the priesthood any sooner than they did. I am kinda sorta satisfied, and I know God did have his reasons, but I would like to know more about that issue. I think there is more to the story.Nobody said anything before about not having at least a little truth in some doctrines.I think the focus of this thread is to point out all the teachings we aren't satisfied with, right now.I want a LOT more than I have already been given.... but for reason I'm not in the spirit of sharing any more short sighted doctrines right now.
Tsuzuki Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 The notion that women are somehow more spiritual than men is another bit of Mormon Mythology.Wow! I agree with you on something!
LifeOnaPlate Posted November 7, 2007 Author Posted November 7, 2007 Great stuff so far. Let's have some more! Don't forget to include object lessons.
Tsuzuki Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 "I've received a revelation that we agreed to marry each other before we came here.""Well, I'm certainly not going to make that mistake twice."
The Nehor Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 The nail in the board and the hole sin leaves behind. That parents understand what teenagers are going through because they've been there.God is a card-carrying Republican.God is a laissez-faire capitalist.God supports pyramid scams as they are a correlation to the 3 Degrees of Glory.Paying Tithing alone means you will not be burned at Christ's coming. We are commanded to be 'in the world, but not of the world'. (The command is to come out of Babylon)
Hashbaz Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I recently reached my breaking point with the old Navy Captain/Lighthouse guy story: "Move!" "No, you move!" etc.If I hear it again I may have to rebuke in the name of the Lord (but I will of course show an increase of love afterwards)
The Nehor Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I recently reached my breaking point with the old Navy Captain/Lighthouse guy story: "Move!" "No, you move!" etc.If I hear it again I may have to rebuke in the name of the Lord (but I will of course show an increase of love afterwards)My Mission President told us that if he was ever in a Church Meeting and any of us teach 'warm fuzzies' instead of the doctrines of the kingdom he would stand up and rebuke us, not caring what calling we had. To keep myself from wandering off the beaten track I usually try to imagine that he might be in the foyer.
T-Shirt Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 That G-d helps find car keys.He helped me find mine, once.T-Shirt
Paul Ray Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 The fact that Christ taught us to do unto others as we would have them do unto us means, by extension, that those who follow Christ should do unto other people as those other people want us to do unto them.People must accept the Nicean Creed concept of God before they can be considered to be true Christians.Anyone who studies the Bible can understand the truth in the Bible simply by using their own intellect.Anyone who studies the Bible and understands it automatically has the true priesthood of God.What one "Christian" says about God is just as good as what some other "Christian" says about God.Official (LDS) Church doctrine prohibits LDS from drinking Coke or any caffeinated beverage.Official (LDS) Church doctrine prohibits LDS from watching any rated "R" movie(s).Official (LDS) Church doctrine prohibits LDS from doing any work on Sundays (our Sabbath)God prohibits people from doing any work on whatever day their Sabbath is.God prohibits people from going to war to uphold their God-given rights.God prohibits people from treating their enemies as their friends.
Scott Lloyd Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Hmm....How about the notion that all faithful Mormons still living will one day be called upon to load up their covered wagons and trek to Jackson County, Mo., where they will help build the temple?
asbestosman Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 The atheist professor who is confounded by the Christian student for not realizing that evil is the absence of God just as dark is the absence of light.Three Nephite rumors. (It's not that they're all necessarily false, but I find them to be empty spiritual calories nonetheless). The sister missionaries who knocked on a rapist's door, but were safe because of the big guys behind them. The elders who were able to escape an angry mob in their car even though the engine was missing (or broken).
Hammer Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 One that drives me nuts is the confusing of charity as in the world gives food and stuffs to the poor (which isn't a bad thing to do) with the doctrine of charity as in Christ's pure love. They are both good, but not interchangable as taught in 1 Cor. 13.Also, the teaching I hear too much: Nobody can be perfect. IOW they are also confusing the worlds idea of perfect with the Lord's idea of perfect.Moro. 10: 32-33 32 Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God. 33 And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy, without spot.
LifeOnaPlate Posted November 7, 2007 Author Posted November 7, 2007 Ah, and the classic "once the prophet speaks the thinking has been done!"
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Ah, and the classic "once the prophet speaks the thinking has been done!"RightSpeaking of this, I was told that in my mission that I must have been breaking mission rules becuase the MP said that there wasnt any reason we shouldnt have a baptism a month. Go figure. Some took this to mean that by revelation we have been given a promise that each companionship will have a baptism a month if we do all we can. Witch the MP never said this.
Hammer Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I don't believe everything everyone has used here today is invalid. Many have great credence in context. Some are just over used and not used with the Spirit or received with the Spirit. While others are definitely not good to use at all.

While others are definitely not good to use at all.I agree with that, which reminds me of another spiritual twinkie which tastes kinda something like this:Satan tells only lies without any shred or vestige of the real truth....In truth, there is no way anyone can tell a lie without sharing at least a little bit of the truth.Satan is an expert at mixing the truth with error.
staccato Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 What about the chosen generation? It seems like every generation for the past four generations has been the chosen generation. If everyone's a rock star, it kind of takes the glory out of it.
Kate Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I agree with that, which reminds me of another spiritual twinkie which tastes kinda something like this:Satan tells only lies without any shred or vestige of the real truth....In truth, there is no way anyone can tell a lie without sharing at least a little bit of the truth.Satan is an expert at mixing the truth with error.I have never heard that spiritual twinkie....in fact, he is so good and mixing lies with truth, even the very elect may be deceived.
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I have never heard that spiritual twinkie....in fact, he is so good and mixing lies with truth, even the very elect may be deceived.I ll take it a step further, He is so good at telling lies that if he just change a part of it, the .0001% He would be telling the truth.
The Dude Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 "Theological twinkie"... hey, I like that term. How about stories of people who've seen Nephite warriors guarding the temple or ghosts waiting for their temple work to be done.
Kate Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 "Theological twinkie"... hey, I like that term. How about stories of people who've seen Nephite warriors guarding the temple or ghosts waiting for their temple work to be done. what??? You've never seen them? Oh ya, spiritual matter is so pure that only the pure can see them. D&C 131:7
Paul Ray Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I have never heard that spiritual twinkie....in fact, he is so good and mixing lies with truth, even the very elect may be deceived.Perhaps the reason you've never heard it is because it's usually a very subtle message that often goes unspoken.I see truths mixed with lies in many things people are saying and I know who has inspired them to think that way.
