Amulek Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 A woman in a mini-skirt walking by is not necessarily intending to cause you [â?¦] to have immoral thoughts. I call shenanigans. If it is not to engender immoral thoughts and thereby garner the attention of the opposite sex, then why would one chose to wear such revealing apparel in the first place? Itâ??s certainly not because mini-skirts are functionally superior to other (more modest) skirts. It is because you are advertising â?? plain and simple. If you donâ??t find anything wrong with that, then so be it. We live in a free country and, for all intents and purposes, you are able to dress as you like. Itâ??s not like the â??bikini policeâ?? are going to stand outside your local swimming pool and deride every young woman who enters wearing a two-piece bathing suit. But just because one is capable of doing something doesnâ??t mean that everyone in society should therefore feel obligated to support that particular behavior. In LDS culture we tend to prefer skirts long on women and hair short on men. And for at least half of the population, â??sexual frustrationâ?? cannot be used as the explanation for why this is the case.
Hoops22 Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 I'm glad this thread is still going so that maybe my call for references will be honored.

That has been the case when I have asked. I can think of no other reason to wear it than this. As brought up it is not becuase a mini skirt is far more comfortable.I'm glad this thread is still going so that maybe my call for references will be honored. What CFR. Sorry I havent been reading this thread all the way.
Oracle Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 I'm glad this thread is still going so that maybe my call for references will be honored.Well, it's not green, but I thought you'd like this bikini. sexy bikini
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Well, it's not green, but I thought you'd like this bikini. sexy bikiniI think Im gonna throw up.
Bond...James Bond Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 As to the modesty question....I think most honest guys (well I'll admit it anyway) will sometimes feel the urge to sleep with an attractive female whether she's wearing a bikini or the most modest of clothes. Give a guy even the barest hints of an attractive girls' figure and shape, and odds are that lusty thoughts will enter his mind sometimes. It's primal....just accept it. As long as you don't act on these feelings (assuming of course you're married or in a committed relationship.....single guys of course can try and persue single ladies) I don't see what the big deal is.To paraphrase Pokatator's wife:"It's not were you get your appetite, but were you dine that's important"
Son Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Yes she bares responsibility (pun intended). Lascivousness is a sin (incitement to lust).Culture has accepted all kinds of trends, that heaven does not.To those that don't see this post for what it is. I am not suggesting it be outlawed, nor should we be a taliban state. It is a great exercise in thought control, one can appreciate the form of woman without going into lustful thoughts.
MorningStar Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Well, it's not green, but I thought you'd like this bikini. sexy bikiniBond! You lied about the bottoms! I don't think I trust you anymore.
cartoon bluejay Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 If wearing bikinis is what you want, you should go for it. Just because the media advertises a certain "standard", it doesn't mean that's the only thing that's considered attractive by everyone. Forties is the new twenties. People who refuse to realize that other people who are past their twenties are still capable of being attractive, loving and being loved, and want to enjoy themselves as much as the younger crowd need to grow up, IMHO. Otherwise it's going to come back and bite them when they get older themselves.Yeah â?? I totally agree with you. I was afraid I wasnâ??t getting my point across very well and was sounding like a big baby â?? â??poor me â?? I donâ??t have flat stomach and Iâ??m not attractive at the pool anymore- BOO HOO!â? Thatâ??s not what Iâ??m feeling. Iâ??m Cartoon Bluejay â?? I can take care of myself. Iâ??m concerned about this conversation on certain levels â?? not because Iâ??ve taken things personally â?? but because Iâ??m concerned at how itâ??s so impersonal. This is a conversation about a womenâ??s body. Iâ??m concerned about the objectification of the womenâ??s body. I canâ??t believe that Iâ??m hearing someone say how turned on they were by the body of a woman and then turn it around to blame the woman and ask that when women are at the pool â?? â??please be more modest, you donâ??t know what youâ??re doing to us guysâ?. First, let me state that I donâ??t think thereâ??s anything wrong with the reaction of being sexually turned on by a good looking woman in a bikini. I do think thereâ??s something wrong with not taking the responsibility for the reaction. So â?? it gets me thinking about whoâ??s in the closet. This is all my opinion of courseâ?¦ I think religion has done more damage to sexual attractions, sexual identities, sexual relationships, and sexual intimacies than the devil could ever hope for. Religion has put the discussion and education of sex so far back in the closet â?? itâ??s nearly impossible for someone to come out sexually healthy. Do we even know what sexual health is? And Iâ??m not talking about STDâ??s â?? Iâ??m talking sexual mental health. We (our culture and society) teach shame and guilt about our bodies (more for women) right from early childhood. Itâ??s a conversation we teach kids and young adults to shut down and only learn about after theyâ??re married and teach that the exploration of our sexual selves is wrong and then wonder why so many marriages are hurting because of various sexual dysfunctions. The first thing that we as humans identify with is our sex. The first thing we notice about another human is whether they are male and female. Sex is a god-given power that IMO there should just be a natural understanding, but there isn't - why is it suppressed so much to hinder the natural understanding of it? We fail to recognize real beauty in sexuality and see it as a dirty thing. (Thatâ??s why women get blamed for what theyâ??re wearing) I think that it can be twisted and made to be ugly but I don't think that's the natural experience of it. I understand there needs to be responsibility taken with sexuality but it seems like teaching or learning the responsibility of it is ignored. It seems like we just tell people to stay away from it until they're married and then expect people to work it out for themselves and sometimes it just doesn't. It's been suppressed - it been taught that it's evil. It seems like Satan has won with that battle if we teach first that it's evil instead of teaching first the beauty of it or naturalness of it. Okay â?? Iâ??m off my soap box.Well, it's not green, but I thought you'd like this bikini. sexy bikiniHey Oracle! I didn't give written permission for you to do that.
MorningStar Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Ok, I've seen the argument that the men who want modesty just don't have any control over themselves.Or maybe those against modesty have no control and are resentful of anyone who would try to decrease the number of scantily clad women walking about? Hmmmmm ...? It was interesting how when my son was about 4, a commercial for Family Guy came on and there was a woman in a bikini. Even though this was a cartoon, he said, "That's disgusting!" We had never had a discussion about modesty yet. He decided on his own that it looked wrong.

Zoidberg Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 People need to lighten up a bit I think, a woman's body is an art formAlthough I more or less agree with everything else you've said, I do have problems with that statement. It still falls short of objectification. A woman's body is not an art form, not a sex doll, not an "asset". A living, breathing body is a person. I got this awesome book of art and posters from the exhibit called Design of Dissent. There is a poster there by Tan Kien Eng from Malaysia. There was a campaign going on in Malaysia to discourage violence against malaysian women. How were they planning on discouraging it? By urging women to be more modest. So Tan designed this poster to rebuff the campaign. All those of you who are accusing women of "advertising", being "disgusting", "lascivious", having no reason to wear what they wear or act the way the act should take a look at it and think about what it says. IMHO. http://www.peaceworkmagazine.org/pwork/0506/050618.jpg

He decided on his own that it looked wrong.Well of course....when I was 4 I thought all girls had cooties and other deadly diseases. And just because you didn't have a discussion with him about modesty doesn't mean he hasn't picked up you and your hubbies views on the subject. Little kids can be rather spongelike when it comes to soaking up information and viewpoints. But let's see if he thinks a bikini is disgusting when he's 16. I'm betting not.

I'm betting not.Of course not Bond what with you wearing bikini tops and all. Actually I'm not sure how OK I am with that, and I certainly hope your bust size hasn't increased since you were born.

asbestosman Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Or maybe we need to declare a national "nudity" week where we are all forced to walk around naked for a week until we get used to seeing nakedness in a non sexual setting. A good trip to European topless beaches should cure people right up--especially when they realize how many grandmas also walk around without tops on.And the chicks in Europe don't shave their pits.If that doesn't cure a guy of wondering eyes, nothing will (and that's probably true that nothing will).

Lamanite Posted September 5, 2007 Author Posted September 5, 2007 cartoon bluejay Sep 4 2007, 05:44 PM:Lamanite - I appreciate your honesty. I think it shows maturity to post this and take the heat - which I perceive you have done very well. Here's my honesty, OUCH! This hurts the ego of many women. I can understand the appreciation for the twenty-something, hard-bodied woman in a bikini. I've admired it also - proabably envied it as well. When I was thirty - I had the body but no courage to wear a bikini - now I'm 40 - I have the courage but not the body (5 kids later and twins) Stretch marks on the belly of woman who had twins - Yikes! So - I guess I'm the woman that you're now repulsed by... in that 10 years of using my body (supposedly) for what it was intended for (having babies) and now it seems to some, my presence at the pool is offensive instead of "look at that beautiful woman with her beautiful children". This statement almost made me cry. On the contrary, you are who I look at and see the most beauty(my wife has some stretch marks from our 4 kids and I think they are cute). You are the women with capri suns and sandwiches and a gigantic beach bag full of floaties and hair pulled back into a pony and there still exists beauty on both the physical and internal levels. I am never repulsed or experience revulsion by any women. (I was just charting the spectrum of emotions one could experience. My sister weighs 280lbs and she is gorgeous!)It's a standard I struggle with - I know plenty of women who think their 40-60 yr. old mates are as sexy as ever, even with the pot-bellies and balding spots. AND they aren't having a hard time with their imagination wandering off if they see a twenty-something, hard-bodied man. It hurts the ego because it is more likely for a man to have the tendency to leave the 35-50 yr old, body-used woman who's too tired for sex because of the kids and too tired to take too much personal care. Where's the intimacy and care in that? What you said - sounds threatening to me (sort of) - Sure - women have a responsibility in the maintenance and upkeep of themselves and the relationship she is in but most women don't have time after 2-5 kids (especially when they are young). So - I'm just saying maybe - you could look for the beauty within a person also and try that for an aphrodisiac. But if you need the green string bikini woman too - why not?I've had plenty of the string bikini's in my youth, and the one's I had had plenty of body and no brains, and even worse no spirituality or depth of character. No thanks, I will stick with my wife of 10yrs (Today is may anniversary) and her sexy mom figure that includes panjama pants to bed more often than lingerie. And I like it that way!
