Bikini's

I asked my wife what she thought about this thread and she was like, "He wouldn't have been any less attracted to her if she had been wearing a one piece suit rather than a bikini". I explained that he thought that maybe she was partly responsible because she wore an immodest swimsuit and she said, "Gimme a break -- he shouldn't try to blame her just because he's a horndog".

This is what I said before, are any swimsuits really "modest"?

If she's hot, it doesn't matter what she's wearing. It's going to be a challenge.

Put the same bikini on a fat chick, and suddenly there's no problem.

(LDS standards often turn us into prudes. My mother-in-law thinks it's "immodest" that the BYU cheerleaders do the splits in the air (when they get tossed up), "showing themselves to the world".

I made the observation that the same move exists in figure-skating and ballet and gymnastics, and she didn't think those were bad. Go figure.)

Oh my Gosh. After being marry for ten years and having three daughters. I am just wondering when people grow up. This is not a problem if you don't make it one. My wife looked great in a Bikini and when we got marry in the Mesa Temple she looked great in one afterwards :P . Sorry to say this LDS people have difficultly with the female form and need to get over it. I believe storngly in modesty, but what exactly were you expecting when you when to a swiming pool? Totally dress women? <_<

Playing devils advocate here but even if what you wrote is the case for what reason would a Christian woman want to frustrate her brothers in Christ? It still doesn't seem to justify the use of dressing immodestly.

This is fine and as long as EVERYONE agrees on what is "immodest" then it shouldn't be hard to say what crosses the line and what doesn't. Problem is, we don't agree--it depends on the society and the culture.

Dude, always insightful just pointed out that swimsuits in general really aren't modest and I agree. He's also right that most only care if the person has a nice figure. A swimsuit can be a one-piece but if it's got high cut legs, low back and front and the fabric is thin with no padding, it won't leave anything to the imagination and it will probably be deemed immodest on a woman with a nice figure. A physically attractive woman will be a turn-on to men even if she's wearing what she believes is a "modest" suit. Pantsman, should she be banned from swimming suits because the mere sight of her "frustrates her brothers in Christ"? I really don't think that's fair and I suspect you don't either.

The truth is, men are different from women and if women don't understand how their physical appearance excites a man, no one should be surprised. As a woman, I cannot understand that particular aspect of males because I've never experienced it myself. If I put on a swimsuit, it's fasionable and I think it makes me look attractive, I'm happy...that's my reaction and I assume I will be seen the same way by others.

After just spending two weeks at a Southern Calif. beach I can say that 75% of the girls and women wore bikinis. I think they wear them because they are stylish and comfortable (they provide more support in the bust than most one-piece styles--this really bugs me because I have at times had to revert to wearing a bikini top under a one piece suit in order to get better support so I understand the desire for support) and they like to have a tan stomach. They have no qualms because society does not tell them that bikinis are immodest. While some might wear them to attract men, I think most wear what they like and what they think looks good on them and what's in style. I just think we need to be careful in how we perceive others motives and it also helps if we remember that not everyone was raised with our standards, religious values or cultural practices.

I sit there amazed by what I was reading in your statment. Please understand I grew up first in a very strick LDS family. My mother bless her heart did her best to dress us three girls best they could. However it got to the point that we girls were not just dress modesly, but were ugly as well. There is a fine line between going over board about modesty and going overboard about inmodesty.

I think I was negiated in someways I could not come up to some standards that may stretch LDS standards abit. But teenagers experement all the time. But let me asked you one question is modesty also a thought process as well? If you dress so modest you may end up never getting marry even in a LDS community?

Women been attracting men all the time and I suspect you would be lying if you didn't dress flirtatiuos once in a while..

PS Until they made a one piece Bathing suit feel as comfortadle as a two piecee bathing suit. I guess I will just be immodest. Folks if your not female you feel like your in a stretch suit and and you feel like you being pulled in four different directions. Gosh I hated swiming in that outfit.

Modest of not! :P

Sorry, this is not a topic I would give any time to but I was on the board and could not resist.

I think you have some maturing to do in your life if this is a real issue for you. Or you at least need to "get out of Provo" (just kidding!).

Both my wife and 18 year old daughter look fantastic in bikinis. They both work out and pride themselves on staying in shape. And, so you know, they go to the Lds church weekly. It has more to do with the maturity of those looking on when those wearing them are comfortable. This is not unusual in todays age and you really should have a better sense of control and awareness before this is a problem of someone else.

Sorry, but we are not living in the dark ages anymore.

Get a grip!

Coming in late to the show here....but sheesh....it is your wife and your daughter. You are allowed to feel that lust for your wife. Of course it doesn't affect you in a way it shouldn't as it is your wife. And as for your daughter, I highly doubt you feel lust for her because she is your daughter.

But how do you feel when other guys are oogling them? We are lucky that guys within the Church get bothered by this type of dress, but others.....don't have the same values there. It is one thing to appreciate a women and her form, it is another to have in proper thoughts towards them.

I don't have a problem with bikini's in general, but the church teaches modesty. There are some binkinis that I would say are more modest. They show off the stomach and back okay, but they don't show off lots of cleave or rearage. These are the types of bikinis that are only there to induce lust. They aren't there to show off how toned you are because rarely are a women's breast toned unless they lack them as the basic composition of breast is FAT. And as for the rear end, you can show it off without having the skin uncovered quite well in a normal bikini or swimsuit bottom.

Hopefully, God will forgive them because they are not aware of the 10th commandment that says "thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, among his other property".

Here's a question. Let's say there are two women on the side of the road with flat tires - one is in a bikini and one is in a business suit. Which one would you help first and why?

Whichever one was trying to fix the flat tire by looking under the hood.

Honestly, the bikini girl. But not to"ogle"her. I think that this person needs the most help. She is more likely to have some scumbag rapist try to accost her. Helping her first gets her out of more immediate harm's way. That doesn't mean she is wrong for wearing the swimsuit, but there are plenty of people out there (as surprisingly evidenced on this board) that think her wearing the outfit justifies uncontrollable lust.

Please do correlate insulting people with being smart?

If you were addressing me, I was not insulting anyone. I was being sarcastic. I can answer that Daria, whose picture you can see as my avatar, is very smart, and also extremely sarcastic. One of my favorite writers, Dostoevsky, also defined sarcasm as "the last refuge of modest and chaste-souled people when the privacy of their soul is coarsely and intrusively invaded." Not that I think of myself as a particularly modest or chaste-souled person.

Okay, that explains why in one post you said "my wife" and in another you said "us girls...I was beginning to wonder if you might have a split personality. :P

It would be helpful if you and your husband had separate accounts in order to avoid confusion.

I think this discussion is done now. Thread closed.
