  1. Past hour
  2. I wonder how that would work? I imagine with the reduced need for defense mechanisms that would help a lot.
  3. What was his reasoning? I can’t see what that has to do with sin.
  4. But no misunderstandings in communication perhaps?
  5. Of the Catholics that have the benefit of being on this dialogue. I know I can rely on your technical thought, to my practical thoughts. However, unlike Aquinas, I lean towards the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception, as declared in the 19th century. 🫣😉
  6. Today
  7. Thanks for being forthcoming Tony. Cal talked about "quickening". When Mom feels the baby move. That is why, if I correctly understand, Aquinas denied the Immaculate Conception. You followed what you were taught, and St. Thomas agreed. Before the Council of Nicea, St Justin Martyr, who died for the name of Jesus, and who we Catholics honor to this day, had some views that 150 years later, after Nicea, would have been questioned. More than me, you have submitted to what you thought the Church taught you. In my eyes, and I think in the eyes of God, you are a very good son of the Church.
  8. 2 forms of birth control at all times. And no a baby shouldn't due because of its parents choices.
  9. Endless Summer. Long days, short nights, 12 knot winds, warm currents. Swim with dolphins. The ability to communicate with mammals, well all creatures. FTL travel. No physical pain.
  10. My own thoughts on this, are as a Catholic, rather than because of being a Catholic. I believe all life to be blessed from conception to death. I was raised with the belief, that abortion being allowed in certain cases, such as rape, incest and the life of mother being at risk. That is the verbal teaching I was given from childhood and through to adulthood, felt this to be appropriate. And in my own reasoning would fit in with, and run parallel with the Aquinas 'Just War Theory'. Before people start posting there is a difference, yes I know. My own argument on the matter, people can not say a complete no to abortion, and on the other hand say there are excuses for war. If I have upset or offended anybody with my post. Apologies in advance.
  11. I think they continued to exist, maybe none of consequence.
  12. Health of the mother can be an acceptable reason to get an abortion according to the teachings of the church. But to answer your question, that is something that would be between themselves and God. I very much refuse to attempt any form of judgement on specific women. I have also had a tubal after being told not to have any more children. If I got pregnant I would have the baby because of my beliefs about motherhood.
  13. Just teasing. There is an interesting piece of history (from the wiki) - - - Because of a newly painted façade, the whole building looks as if it has been reconstructed, although the rest is still in decay (castle brewery in Kolín, Czech Republic).
  14. I'm curious for yours and other Latter-day Saints thoughts. Latter-day Saints believe that abortion should be permissible to protect the life of a mother. Some woman have been told by their physicians that any future pregnancy is very likely to be life threatening. My mother was told this after five c-section deliveries and chose tubal ligation. Given that no form of birth control is 100%, if these woman choose to continue to have sex with their partners, should they be allowed abortions? Since they are 100% responsible for their choices in this matter?
  15. this person is straining at a gnat without any basis for science or spiritual effect . . . the perturbations of planets around the sun and its high velocity whirling around the SMB of the Milky Way galaxy has TOO many gravitational interactions . . . none of which can be meaningfully mapped by the astrologist on the star chart . . .
  16. What a lovely post! I want to not need sleep, never think once about calories all day long, hopefully fly, and I hope there is no mind reading, I like my privacy and the intimacy that comes when I choose to share. I also hope to watch sports and attend rock concerts once a month
  17. here is the American continent (both north and south) . . . there is around Scandinavia (in the north, with the blood of Viking raiders propagated throughout Europe) . . . Finland and the Rus included . . .
  18. Here's another gospel "truth" taught by former President George Q. Cannon: "The Indians contain a purer strain of Israelite blood than many members of the church. They will become a white and delightsome people. Here is Ephraim, but the ten tribes are there" (Gospel Truth, volume 2, chapter 8, page 98). What could here and there represent?
  19. If there is an afterlife, I hope we can more fully enjoy physical activities without the wear and tear that I know my favorite sport of endurance cycling imposes on on my body. And I want continuous learning especially of the sciences, of which I am a neophyte on. And of course I would hope I can continue to associate with my family and friends in the same relationships I have with them now.
  20. 2 Nephi 2:23 says they did not experience joy in the Garden of Eden before the Fall ("And they would have had no children; wherefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy, for they knew no misery; doing no good, for they knew no sin"). Apparently joy within marriage can only be experienced after misery comes first.
  21. There are many attributes, that I would like to have had in this life. If there is anything that I would like to have in the next, it would be to be generally more artistic. At school, I enjoyed drawing, and painting, and also making things. Although, not very good at any of it, I enjoyed having a try. In recent years, I have turned my hand to gardening. Before her death, my mother used to take care of the garden at home. Only a small garden at the front and rear. In recent years, I have managed to keep it in reasonable condition, but lack artistic touch, to make the garden look great. So, for myself. It would be an artistic attribute.
  22. This isn't a "life-to-come" thing, exactly, as much as it is a "Millennnium thing," but, I'd like to be like Daniel, and play with the nice kitties. See Daniel 6.
  23. Most likely spam given the link. Will report
  24. I have noticed that some couples seem to understand each other naturally, while others struggle with even small disagreements. It makes me wonder whether astrology can offer any insight into why certain people get along better in relationships. In astrology, factors such as zodiac signs, planetary placements, and birth charts are often considered when exploring relationship dynamics. Some people compare their birth dates to understand how well two people might match and explore their relationship compatibility through astrology. However, I believe communication, trust, and mutual respect are equally important for building a healthy relationship. Exploring astrological compatibility using the dates of both partners can be an interesting way to learn about potential similarities and differences, but I wouldn't rely on it alone to judge whether two people are right for each other. What do you think? Have you ever compared your birth date with your partner's to understand your compatibility? Did you find it interesting or helpful?
  25. Same with LDS belief that everyone will be able to receive a perfect, eternal body, whether that means preborn bodies are enough or those who die anytime before birth get another chance in another body. Our debate as far as I can tell is around time the spirit links up with the body permanently. And since we have Jesus appearing as a spirit the night before he is born in scripture, that might happen at birth. I think the more common view is it happens not long before or at quickening, but I haven’t studied it. For those not familiar with the LDS official position…. I don’t think we think of it as a right as much as a responsibility (freedom to choose vs be accountable for one’s choices and the consequences), but that may just be me interpreting what others have said through my own filter. We haven’t in the past talked much of body autonomy, for example, but a lot about the responsibility of sexual reproduction and making responsible choices (which typically does not include safe sex if outside of marriage, so “responsible” for us likely means different from how it’s often used in discussions about sex). We do not have an official doctrine on when the spirit enters the body, so it’s not used as a justification against abortion in LDS official policy. My read on official policy is more the power of life is a magnificent gift from God, have respect for it. Avoid abortion if at all possible, but we recognize there are justifiable reasons (primarily of health) where abortion may be the inspired choice for someone. When growing up, that was typically limited to severe physical health issues in mother or child and rape and incest. Now significant mental health is considered as well. That might even include overwhelming stress from finances. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics/abortion?lang=eng
