Because of course Satan is going to have his apostate heretical schismatic “churches” try to label Christ’s One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church as abominable.

I've read of sightings of the Great and Abominable in the Himalayan mountains of Asia (which is nowhere near the Vatican in Rome).  So the Catholics are definitely off the hook.

I think it's time to delete quotes about Satan over taking bodies. And for the very young we need to not have discussion of the devil or Satan in lessons. In a child's mind it can cause extreme mental abuse. I wish I had the quote but one such person as a child was ultra sensitive to the thought that the devil would take her over. And had life long consequences.

My sister in law a few years ago, went through an ordeal where she felt Satan had taken over her spirit. I don't believe it for a minute, I believe she thought an entity did, but I don't believe it was Satan and don't believe in such an entity. I think it was brought up to make people fear that if they do things wrong the devil will get them maybe in men's writings or scriptures.

I'm late to the party and haven't read all the posts, but this is my favorite verse regarding this subject:

"Wherefore, he that fighteth against Zion, both Jew and Gentile, both bond and free, both male and female, shall perish; for they are they who are the whore of all the earth; for they who are not for me are against me, saith our God." (2 Nephi 10:16)

What makes a church, or person, part of the church of the devil or great whore, is that they fight against Zion. I believe the division is becoming more clear- and there are members of the great whore both outside and inside the Lord's Church.

I've brought up before that no one really seems to know what satan can or can not do. I am told he can tempt but when I review every possible mechanism - it's all stuff he can't do. Like control minds. 

It looks a whole lot like what we blame on satan is all stuff we do to ourselves/each other. Inadvertently or not.

The scriptures consistently highlight the tension between wealth and poverty. The Lord made it a binary choice when He declared, you cannot serve God. and Mammon.  The choicest people of the Lord always eschewed personal wealth in favor of communal wealth. See Acts, Moses and 4th Nephi. My personal view is that the great and abominable Church is any economic system (capitalism) which places the accumulation of personal wealth above that which is best for the community, where humans are reduced to a resource to be exploited by the rich and powerful.
