Hymnz Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 I know that most any Melchizedek priesthood holder can perform blessings of healing. However, sometimes I heard that there are individuals who possess the gift of healing (for example Ephraim from Ephraim’s Rescue, if you’ve seen the movie). Besides the apostles and prophet, have you heard of anyone who actually has performed miraculous healing of the physical body? I’m curious since it’s always very sacred and no one talks about it. And why don’t we have more access to those type of individuals.
strappinglad Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 (edited) We had such a brother in my town many years ago. They are less common now that there is access to decent medical treatment. Imagine the social circus surrounding a true healer today. People lined up around the block. Bribes being offered for quicker access.TV crews and ' influencers ' all over the place. There was a reason that Jesus often told those he healed not to spread it around. Edited June 7, 2022 by strappinglad 1
Pyreaux Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 My former bishop's wife had pancreatitis and miraculously regrew her pancreas. My teacher exorcised a demon on his mission in Hawaii.

mfbukowski Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Yes. I have seen terminal cancer cured, an eyelid pending surgery "repaired" and little ones as well.
Hymnz Posted June 7, 2022 Author Posted June 7, 2022 ok, so my next question is, where can i find these individuals?

Mind IS MATTER, all religious experience is REAL. Mary Fielding Smith https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/friend/1993/07/mary-fielding-smith-mother-in-israel?lang=eng Quote Although Mary managed to get some additional cattle to help pull the wagons to the Salt Lake Valley, the trek still tested and refined her faith. One day one of her best oxen became very sick, lay down, and was apparently near death. Had this happened, she could not have continued on the journey to the Valley. Mary got a bottle of consecrated oil and asked two brethren to administer to the sick ox. Although administration to the sick had only been used for humans, Mary believed that the Lord would heal the animal that she needed so desperately. After the blessing, the ox got up and was soon ready to pull the wagon again. Two more times other oxen became ill, and twice more Mary asked the brethren to bless them. Each time, they were healed instantly. Despite all difficulties, Mary and her family arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on September 23, 1848, a full day before the rest of the company. My understanding is that in the 1800's LDS missionaries cited the return of the spiritual gifts of the New Testament as being evidence for the Restoration, and that the return of the gift of healing was virtually an exclusive claim of the LDS Church. Then in the late 1800's Mary Baker Eddy founded Christian Science, which arguably more directly engages and develops the gift of healing, and so that "exclusivity" claim faded away. 1 hour ago, Hymnz said: ok, so my next question is, where can i find these individuals? Within the LDS church, there's probably only word of mouth. If you are open to it, you might seek out a Christian Science practitioner. Or perhaps a Healing Touch practitioner. Or a Shiatsu practitioner. Personally I have reservations about Reiki, as the amount of ego investment and money changing hands exceeds my comfort zone. I have some experience with all four, as well as with being a Melchizedek Priesthood holder, and imo underlying the spiritual energy is identical. As far as I can tell (and I'm no expert) healing energy seems to be indistinguishable from pure unconditional love, and while some people are more naturally gifted at being a conduit for healing energy, I think it's something anyone can develop. Perhaps mfbukowski is right, perhaps the healer you seek is in the mirror, perhaps God through circumstances is calling you in that direction... ?? Edited June 7, 2022 by manol

Mary Fielding Smith https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/friend/1993/07/mary-fielding-smith-mother-in-israel?lang=eng Yes i believe in that but I don't think that's the only thing that makes a healing miracle possible. When Christ healed all the people he did while he walked the earth, there was definitely more power going on that I don't think we fully understand. Otherwise, how could Moses just part the sea or Elijah rein down fire from heaven or prophets and apostles literally move mountains unless there be some order in the universe that God either knows how to manipulate or straight up command because he is worthy of his title to be obeyed? So much that even the smallest particles would just do as he commands (this is me just hypothesizing from what I've read about Christ's miracles). Just like how modern medicine is possible because we understand the laws of science more. There's too much undiscovered knowledge out there in the universe that prevents us from accomplishing more. And as D&C says, God is the greatest of intelligence. In the end, he must be obeyed if things are to function orderly in our existence. I went a little off on a tangent right here, but hopefully you get what I'm saying.

I don't believe that God limits spiritual gifts only to those in the LDS church. Even in the new testament, Christ never rebuked those trying to heal in his name. And I know people who have been healed through other faiths and I have yet to try them. Reiki is indeed one i take with caution. I just think God being God is able to do more than just healing energy when it comes to miraculous healing. I think he can literally command things to be put back in order. He is God after all.

On multiple occasions Jesus said "your faith has made you whole" or words to that effect... point being, in practice there is more to it than God simply commanding things be put back in order, even if theoretically God could do so because after all he is God. I think God never forces us but rather respects our boundaries, and in this context our individual faith is our boundary. Edited June 7, 2022 by manol
strappinglad Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 The greatest healing miracle that can take place is that of the repentant soul.

Its a miracle, a pancreas does not grow back. My Mom had ovarian cyst that was getting bigger and they were worried that it was tumorous and were recommending surgery as the treatment. In an interfaith Christian study group, I blurted out that I had a prayer request, we did a prayer circle, and later that week over the phone with my mom, I asked about the cyst, she says the doctors said it has vanished. So, there were several interfaith group praise reports such as this. Edited June 8, 2022 by Pyreaux

God makes miracles using science OR what we now call supernatural means, simply because we don't understand them yet. Can you imagine a television in the 12th century?? Words and visions coming from the air through a box? Would THAT be a "miracle"? Of course! I only post this to head off the scoffers who are surely lurking. I have seen miracles and the cause of regeneration is the key here, and God does respond to faith. I know that is a fact! https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6168194/#:~:text=Regeneration of the exocrine pancreas&text=The exocrine pancreas can regenerate,in both animals and humans. And imagine in a few years if you have a bad heart, kidneys, liver, they might be able to clone you a new one. Is that a "miracle"? What does "natural" mean as opposed to "supernatural"? At what point does natural get "super"? The unexplainable becomes explainable every day!
The Nehor Posted June 8, 2022 Posted June 8, 2022 Yes, of the gifts that are overtly divine we see healing the most. We see gifts of knowledge and wisdom but they are not as spectacular. Of the gifts like healing we have prophecy and tongues but when was the last time you have seen people praying for them? Tongues is also a weird one. Paul didn’t put much stock in it even though it happened to him. Joseph Smith had to shut down some weird applications of Tongues and similar things that were more emotionally euphoric than spiritual. We see the satanic counterfeits for prophecy growing in strength and volume a lot lately.

Imagine some particle going faster than the speed of light, or some new species created Uh- "Discovered" that can fly into space using magnetism and the earth's magnetic field in some way- a concept never before considered. Suddenly the use of the word "nature" changes. Whatever happens is "natural" because it happened. The "supernatural" is only what we THINK is not "natural" Ah, the brilliance of language where words mean anything you want them to! And so God lives or "dies" according to how we define words. What fun! God is dead, long live God!! - Not THAT one- the OTHER one! Edited June 8, 2022 by mfbukowski
strappinglad Posted June 8, 2022 Posted June 8, 2022 I guess " supernatural ", like beauty , is in the eye of the experiencer.
rpn Posted June 9, 2022 Posted June 9, 2022 I know a number of people who verbally or physically interact with others in ways that can fairly be described as having the gift of healing.
