I agree that physical discipline is sometimes necessary but I usually find that its strongest proponents tend to also be the ones that cannot tell the difference between doling out temporary discomfort and long-standing emotional and physical abuse. Reciprocity is real and one shouldn’t be surprised if some of the former students of this ‘school of hard-knocks’ return to dole out some fire of their own. Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. You might not be up for that. It leaves deep and abiding scars on society should people come to the conclusion that ‘might makes right’. As a parent I saw and still see a spanking as a means to an end, a tool of sorts, and I was and still am aware of other tools I could and can use. And it is not my favorite tool, either. Just something in my toolbox I can use if I feel it is necessary. I would always prefer to have a calm, relaxed discussion to try to talk things through with my child. I'd never want to use physical discipline if I could reach my child on an emotional and intellectual level through calm discussion. Even our Father went to war with his son Lucifer, casting him down here, against his will. Sometimes a calm discussion just will not work, so another means of discipline is necessary, otherwise there would be disorder in my own home. -1

Physical discipline tends to instill in people the belief that the strong can hurt the weak when they choose. It might be a useful lesson on life but it is not a moral one. 3

We tried having a calm and relaxed discussion about it so time to bust out the rod! 1

Canadiandude Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Is there anything else divine about anger that the OP finds is kinda under analyzed?

Do you see a need for escalation to violence? I don't. If you do, though, have at it, if you feel it is necessary. I will respond however I feel is necessary, as always.

I was not joking that I find the use of force from the strong to compel the weak to comply with their wishes a dubious thing. I think the use of pain to encourage obedience is downright odious. I really don’t care if a Jewish proverb disagrees with me.

So what do you think of our Father casting Satan down here to this planet, after the war in heaven, when we (the good guys and gals) defeated him and the third of us who followed him? That involved more than just a spanking, I think. It was a real war. Or is it only a particular type of pain that you do not approve of, when the strong exercises its power over the weak? Who do you think it is who causes us to feel the emotional pain of remorse when we become aware that we have done a bad thing? The good is there to help us recognize what is evil, and there is no doubt in my mind that the force and power of good greatly outweighs and overpowers all of the forces of evil. And the good will always be triumphant over all that is evil, which causes pain to the wicked. Or do you somehow believe the evil enjoy or will enjoy that kind of thing?

When if ever is it appropriate to use physical force to discipline a child, or an adult. I am not one of those who believes it is never appropriate. I believe it is sometimes necessary. Preferably without getting too bloody. -1

My Dad often helped me with that, before he spanked me. He let me know I did wrong, helping me to understand how, answering my questions if I had any, and then he would spank me. And look how well I turned out! And I'm still getting better and better!
