National Geographic's "Killing Jesus"

The National Geographic channel is airing a 3 hour show called "Killing Jesus." Here is the description of it: "The intimate details of Jesus' life and the political conspiracy that preceded his death; how his message led to his persecution and execution by those who saw him as a threat." Does anyone know about this show? I am planning on watching it shortly, but don't want to use 3 hours for a disappointment. Is it all speculative?

Depends on whose POV is being expressed.  If this is the cinematic version of Bill O'Reilly's Killing Jesus, https://images.macmillan.com/folio-assets/readers-guides/9780805098549RG.pdf , then all bets are off.

Ha. Well, thanks gize. It's not looking like it is going to teach me anything new at this point - a Jesus that is surprised that John the Baptist knows him. I guess that's new. Smart speculation might have some value, but so far this is disappointing me. It doesn't follow scripture, and seems to have nothing to add. No archaeological points - or almost none, and I'm an hour into it now... Apparently one of the actors is named Stephen Moyer, but I know nothing of its source. There are some interesting things which could be discussed or brought up like Caesar Augustus was thought to have once said, “It is better to be Herod’s pig than to be his son," but this is set up to be 3 hours of secularized Jesus entertainment it looks like. Oh well.

Fortunately you are not allowed to lie on TV so I assume they have uncovered new information and are not just mashing up some quasi-historical fiction they think will sell.

Yes, Sewell is a great actor.  He was amazing as Lord Melbourne in "Victoria."

I like much of the Nat Geo programming, but if this is based on O'Reilly's book, then I'm not interested.  Can anyone confirm if this is connected?

I've read about the original excavations at Oak Island. Someone went to a great deal of trouble and complex engineering to hide something very valuable ....or it has become the world's most costly practical joke.

 I used to watch that show. I love the premise but it got a little too weird for me after the first season!

If you think season 2 was weird, you should see parts of season 3 - the parts about the travel between worlds is kind of 'out there' but makes sense in context.John gets a couple of promotions over the 2nd and 3rd season, he is now Reich Marshall and in charge of the German parts of North and South America.

Overall my wife and I love the show.

If you get a chance, I'd suggest binge watching it.

It was apparently based on Bill O'Reilly's book.

I thought the portrayal of Caiaphas was one of the bright spots. I was kind of disappointed in the movie, but it wasn't bad. It just wasn't what I was hoping for. I guess I wanted more of a documentary - or at least partly.
