Duncan Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 https://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/special-invitation-tuesday-january-16 I wonder what this is about beyond a new First Presidency? 1
Avatar4321 Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 I don’t expect anything beyond a new first presidency unless he is planning to fill vacancies in the twelve as well 3
Avatar4321 Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Maybe he is calling all the missionaries home so the Lord can preach his own sermons 4

Nothing beyond a new First Presidency. I guess it's official as of Tuesday...(or whenever the ordination took place). 1
cdowis Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 I think it will be to reassure the members that the leadership changes will go smoothly and he will introduce the new 1st Presy. The church will stay the course. It will be interesting to see how long it will take to announce the newest apostle.
Jeanne Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 I can only imagine that perhaps Pres. Nelson is just offering assurances. 1

I would wager a new First Presidency on Tuesday and the two new Apostles between now and April Conference. I doubt they would introduce two new Apostles at the same time. The bigger question - will he keep the same counselors? It's been a while since a member of the First Presidency stepped down and returned to the quorum. Not since Marion G. Romney in 1988 (30 years ago) and that was due to poor health. With Eyring and Uchtdorf as healthy as they are I'm betting there will be no change. Edited January 13, 2018 by JLHPROF 2

JAHS Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 A little more info:President Russell M. Nelson to introduce new LDS Church leadership in live broadcast Tuesday "In an unprecedented move, President Russell M. Nelson, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, will introduce the new leadership of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Tuesday during a live broadcast at 9 a.m. Mountain Standard Time."

Curious what will make this unprecedented. I guess the article is saying the broadcast before the news conference is the unprecendented part. The biggest precedent he could change would be switching out his counselors and I just don't see that happening. Although, how does President Nelson, President Holland, and President Bednar sound? Somehow I doubt he'll call Oaks, and leave him to become President Oaks of the Quorum of the 12. 1

He is extremely popular with the membership, and is relatively spry. He makes a good public image, which may not be the deciding factor but ability to connect with people is a consideration. 2
JLHPROF Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 If President Eyring is released as a counselor, the interesting question is who might replace him. I think it would be a real surprise if one of the junior Apostles was called. It was quite a surprise when Pres. Uchtdorf was called ahead of more senior Apostles (Oaks and Ballard for instance). Personally, I think it's time we had a President Holland... 2

They could vote to organize a new First Presidency or to continue the interregnum that has been in place for 11 days now "Either way, there will be new leadership on Tuesday — a new First Presidency or the introduction of an ongoing interregnum." I don't know if the writer has knowledge that an apostolic interregnum could occur now, but it is absolutely doctrinally correct that it could. Then again, no special meeting is really needed to announce that. And there wouldn't need to be a vote to make it official, although I suppose if they wanted to... I just don't see it as doctrinally necessary to vote to continue the Quorum as it is.

Usually, it's not the Church itself pointing it out this much. 1

Eyring are in the Q12 but as you know when the President dies the 1st Presidency is dissolved, so at least temporarily, both he and Pres. Eyring are in the Q12. For all anybody knows they could be or not be recalled into the 1st Presidency. Even with Pres. Nelson, he isn't the President of the Church until he is set apart as such. So, this may not be reflective of him not being recalled into the 1st Presidency

It's just that this is the first time I've seen the Church so pronounced (in a number of ways) about how the Quorum of the Twelve truly is in charge now. 2

As of right now it's Elder Eyring and Elder Uchtdorf. But I've hardly seen anyone using this correctly and stop calling them President, myself included. We are such creatures of habit (anyone still writing 2017 on things?). But of course President Nelson is still President Nelson as President of the 12. Edited January 13, 2018 by JLHPROF 1
