I have decided to sing this:

Of course I will sing it better than Sissel

I know I can sing it better than Netrebko - she was a maid

The words are very simple:

Merciful Jesus(Pie Jesu)

who takes away the sins of the world(qui tollis peccata mundi)

grant them peace/rest (dona eis requiem)

Lamb of God (Agnus Dei)

...Sempiternam(everlasting)

Sissel's voice is so absolutely pure, that I can't stop loving her Pie Jesu, but I love the duet in the version sung by Netrebko, and the background music is better I think. Andrew Lloyd Webber is just a musical genius. He has left us with so much gorgeous music.

The Huron Carol

"2011This is Canada's oldest Christmas Carol. It was written by a Jesuit missionary to the Huron people, Jean de Brebeuf, in 1643. This, of course, is the English version of the song, which varies from the original. The recording is from the CD 'A Noteworthy Christmas', and is performed by the Exultate Chamber Singers. This version eliminates the third verse; the full text follows:

Wow...that's beautiful!  I love the way the words relate to the Huron people themselves.  It looks like your post got cut off?

Here's the Lord's Prayer chanted in Aramaic by Eastern Orthodox Christians of Assyrian ancestry.  The melody is ancient.

Reminds me of bagpipes. I wonder if this type of singing is where the idea of the bagpipe came from.

As long as I have lived I still continue discover new/old beautiful music. Thanks for that hymn. I don't believe I have ever heard it, and it is beautiful. To bad the Huron are no more as a people.

I found an arrangement online of this song for our ward choir to sing  last November around Thanksgiving, when I was still choir director. My wife got the idea when she heard the MoTabs sing it at general conference.

It is beautiful.

A rather unusual offering, but on the Beach Boys' first Christmas album, when they were at the height of their career (it was either 1964 or 1965) was a beautiful a cappella arrangement by Brian Wilson of the Lord's Prayer. Here it is on YouTube:
