Real life Rudy from Notre Dame is baptized into LDS church

If the Dalai Lama were to join the Catholic Church, I wonder if the news would be buried on page 12 of the NY Times. About 150,000 people die every day in the world and a very few even get a mention in an obituary, but let Prince die and the entire media throws a tribute. Celebrity worship indeed. Johnnie Cake has a point but unfortunately suggests the basest of motives to the LDS media and population. I am unfamiliar with the actual ' Rudy ' but if the actor who portrayed him were to get baptized... be still my heart !

Why does this post offend my senses?  Not his baptism...that I'm fine with...but the advertising of his baptism and the celebration of it as if it means anything.  ...

Because you're too damn sensitive?

Actually I think JC's offended sense about this comes from a semi-laudable position of holding the Church to a higher standard than the world's.  So when a celebrity joins the Church, he thinks that the Church should jolly well keep mum about it, and let the Gentiles alone comment about it.  And then we come to those critics who sneer about how the Church doesn't isn't being charitable enough -- and when the Church reports that it has done this or that in the charitable realm, NOW the Church is blowing its own horn.  Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

It gets quite tiresome to hear, actually.

Even if you aren't a football fan, everyone loves the movie Rudy starring Sean Astin.

Never heard of it.

I love Sean Astin.  He seems like a good guy.

The movie came out in the early 90's.  Maybe it was just local, but his experience of overcoming enormous odds to make the Notre Dame football team was often used by ward and stake church leaders to motivate youth.  Plus, the movie has a fun ending when he finally gets to play in a game.
