Well done, Tacenda. Except it can really add a lot of white space if a post is short. If people want to do it, might be worth it to remove other personal information and just include the sig. I deleted all my info because white space bugs me.

Workarounds, like medications, often have undesirable side effects. But if white space bothers you, I'm not sure how successful you would be in the advertising industry. JAHS Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 We used to be able to have an advanced reply option where we could preview what we post before posting it and do other things. I haven't tried starting a new post. Is the preview still there?

But I've encountered the absence of two or three things that I will miss: -- Ability to pull up lists of one's own posts that others have "liked" (or awarded rep points to). I've found a function that I think is supposed to do this, but for some reason it is not working for me. A temporary substitute may be viewing your post activity on your profile page. Your posts will be listed along with those who liked them (at least that's what I'm seeing on the mobile version).

Scott Lloyd Posted December 7, 2015 Author Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Hurrah! Sig lines have been restored! But it seems my link to the Eagles' song "Get Over It" shows up as this huge, imposing YouTube screen. I'll delete it, but I'll have to figure out how to do it first. Meanwhile, if anyone can help, I'm all ears. It's going to annoy everybody, and I'll feel self-conscious and embarrassed, like when I'm browsing the Internet on my iPod touch during a meeting or seminar and I land on a website with sound, and I can't figure out how to turn it off readily. Scott Lloyd Posted December 7, 2015 Author Posted December 7, 2015 A couple other things I miss: -- Consecutive numbering of posts in a thread. The absence of this eliminates the convenience of referring back to a post by citing its number. -- Quick link to a quoted post. Prior to the update, I could click on a link in a quoted post to go quickly back to the original post and read it in context, if necessary. I've not seen any comparable function on the upgraded board.
Tacenda Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I guess I don't mind the like button,it has a cute little heart, and excited to have the privilege back of giving them. 1

Once others begin to post in a thread, they become just as much "co-owners" of the discussion, by way of their active participation, as the individual who initiated the discussion. I always found thread closures by the instigator to be, in many/most cases, an exercise of what felt to me to be unrighteous dominion and, in many cases, silence potentially-valuable ongoing dialogue. If a thread initiator no longer finds value in the ensuing discussion, he/she is welcome to withdraw. Allowing others to continue respectful conversation robs the initiator of nothing, while offering other participants the benefits of ongoing dialogue. I agree with you Daniel about the thread locking. It was often used by the thread originator to try to control the dialog. Kind of like the kid who would take his ball and go home it the game wasn't going exactly how he liked it. One another subject, I do miss not having a full screen to see the postings. I think the "recently browsing" right hand column is not the best use of screen space.
Buckeye Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Minor issue, but I find the focus on gender identification unnecessary. Would be nice to be able to disable that. 1

As opposed to obnoxious or malicious thread hijackers trying to "control the dialogue," to the detriment of the discussion? Often to the point where the moderators felt inclined to shut down the thread themselves because the conversation had gone south? Incidentally, it appears the discontinuance of this option was not a conscious decision by the moderators, and that it may yet be brought back if it is possible with the new software.

Would be nice to be able to disable that. Why is disabling it necessary? And can't people opt out of having their gender made known if they are that secretive? Edited to add: One useful benefit is that it precludes referring to a female as "he" or "her" and visa versa, or it saves scratching one's head over which pronoun to use. You acknowledged it is a minor point but I'm curious why gender identification is such an issue with you that you would even bring it up. Edited December 7, 2015 by Scott Lloyd
Tacenda Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 It's really difficult to post when on my mobile. I'll be tapping and it shoots me up to the search on my phone. Then I'll scroll down to finish and it will have capitalized a letter, then won't let me x it out, so then I have to copy and delete it. Hopes this bug is worked out.

You acknowledged it is a minor point but I'm curious why gender identification is such an issue with you that you would even bring it up. You're allowed to select M, F, or "I'm not telling" But you're required to make one of those selections and the selection is displayed on every post. In contrast, location is only displayed on every post if want it. I just find it annoying that gender is now a necessary element of every post. I'm fine with it being part of each poster's bio - which is easily accessible. I'm just not sure why it needs to be affixed to every post. On the old board we got by just fine without it. ETA: I'm not sure if it's intentional, but your sig line, Scott, is ginormous on my browser because of the video attachment. That too gets to be tedious as I'm scrolling through a page. mfbukowski Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I mostly like it all but I can't figure out how to use the quote function properly. I guess I end up hitting multi quote and get the whole thread repeated to be re quoted Plus I am not getting email notifications. Worst part for me is that I am not motivated to figure it all out. I just don't care as much about posting I guess. I learned dos, I learned windows 3.1, millenium, windows 7, windows 8, then 8.1 and now 10. I am just tired of re-learning everything every 3 years. Old guy syndrome I suppose. Time for a nap.
