Avatar4321 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 One of my best friends growing up is in severe depression. He's struggled with drugs and stealing. Been in jail for it. His wife left him. He can't find work. He wants to die. Please pray for him.

For those who have it severe or chronic and can't get to doctors who are willing to attempt more than one pill and who don't have someone around to help with the necessary proactiveness to get the right treatment (therapy plus drugs if needed), I can so understand why they might retreat to alcohol or recreactional drug for a few hours of escape. I hope he finds the help he needs. It can be quite complicated. My daughter has been going to a psychiatrist since last May and it takes 4 to 6 weeks to figure out if something is going to help so it is a slow chipping away at the collection of issues and in the last few months what was working for part of it has begun to cause sleep issues, so at times it feels like one step forward and two steps back.It is very difficult to deal with on one's own as depression interferes with being proactive, but if they are adults, it can also be difficult if they reject the help offered. Very vicious cycles.

Tacenda Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 (edited) My brother is 45 and has been an alcoholic for most of his life. He started drinking at an early age and has been in and out of jail. I can't not help him when he needs help. But he hasn't hit the bottom yet, if ever, this disease has a hold on him so much. My brother also recently lost his job and really has no place to live. I thought I had him convinced to go get detoxed and then rehab, but he's already spending his last paycheck drinking. I was hoping to get prayers for him also after reading Avatar4321's request for his friend. It might be too late, my brother's liver is shot, I thought it would be nice to live his last days, months or hopefully years, sober for his son. So prayers are needed also, thank you. rpn Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 If you believe he is a danger to himself or others, you can call the police, or take him to the hospital and ask someone to involunarily commit him for evaluation. Medications can do wonders, and they have therapy too.
