I would think that the Church would offer... and very well may have offered... but I'm not sure the FLDS community would accept. 5

Popular Post rongo Posted September 26, 2015 Popular Post Posted September 26, 2015 A new student at my middle school moved here from Colorado City (I've covered her science class several times on my free period, since the teacher resigned). When she mentioned where she is from, I asked her privately if she was raised FLDS. We had a great discussion (the class had busy work). She and her mother have "left" FLDS, and her six other siblings are in foster care with her (all over the Arizona). Her hair is cut with highlights, and she dresses normally. I asked her if she knew anyone lost, hurt, or damaged by the flood, and she knows a lot of people (she, herself, is a Jessop). I asked her if she believes in Joseph Smith, the BoM, etc., and she does. She has been baptized four times in FLDS (apparently, they are baptized as they progress in the church). She said that everyone has their personal security code to get into the church building (so they can track entry by person). Her father is an alcoholic and was kicked out of the church (he did some work at the Dorado community in Texas). I talked to her about my polyamist ancestors. She is a very well-behaved and diligent student, and appreciates the fact that I know and understand her background, and wouldn't mock it. She seeks me out to say hi during the school day. 8

People get upset when they don't think the church is doing anything, when they don't think the church is being forthright with what it's doing with humanitarian dollars, and when the church 'pat's itself on the back' by disclosing when it has gotten involved. What exactly do you want the church to do?? 6

There were also other posters who specifically asked for links showing what the church had been doing in way of humanitarian aid. Pinning the thread was an easier way for them to get that information. 1

If the FLDS needed help I'm sure there were wards and stakes in the area that offered. Many local disasters are handled by local leaders, which is what fast offerings are for. Some people will find any little thing the "church" does or doesn't do a reason to nitpick. 1

If I had found an article that the Church had helped the Hildale victims I would have linked to it. I guess I can only answer questions that put the LDS Church in a positive light. You don't have to say things that only put the church in a positive light, but come on. You can't suggest that the church must not have helped someone because it's not published, and then in the next breath impugn the church for publishing when they help someone. It makes it so the church can't win.

You do realize that there is a difference between the Church telling its members (and anyone else interested) what it is doing and "patting itself on the back"? Or has that distinction escaped you? No irony. I was simply answering The Nehor's question. With an answer I would expect from an infernal source with all the truthfulness that implies.
Tacenda Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 I think the church should do what it can, since they are a break off of the church, their beliefs similar to the earlier church except for the abuse. The church doesn't want much to do with them, IMO, because of anyone's misconceptions. But I think it would say a lot if they helped, maybe even convert a few of them.

I was simply trying to help the OP find any information and showing where there wasn't any. and then in the next breath impugn the church for publishing when they help someone. It makes it so the church can't win. Hardly the next breath. As I wrote before, I was responding to The Nehor's "gotcha" statement.
