Bobbieaware Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Well, Julie Rowe is also very specific in the calamities that are supposed to happen. An earthquack from the gulf of mexico to the great lakes which cause the rivers to run backwards. A tsunami in Missouri? That's right, a TSUNAMI. ??? Should Missourians build an ark to truly be prepared for a TSUNAMI? That sounds pretty reasonable.Yes, these preppers believe in very specific calamities and specific timelines. It is IMPOSSIBLE to be "fully prepared" for every potential threat. So if we are wise, prepare for the basics like the church has counseled, then there's nothing else we can do. There is no promise that the faithful will avoid the hardships and death of the calamitous end days. So instead of mortgaging my future I will be wise in my preparations. I will not be fanatical or fearful. No one knows when the end will come. Everyone who has ever claimed to know has been wrong.I don"t know about the validity of Julie Rowe's "prophecies," but I do know there is a destructive natural phenomenon known a "river tsunami."

The thing that fascinates me is how one-sided their talk of preparedness is. All they talk about is physical preparedness in neglect of the vastly more important spiritual preparedness. If what they want is peace through troubled times, the only true sanctuary is spiritual preparedness. "And should we die before our journey's through, happy day! All is well!" - That is the blessing of spiritual preparedness. In it, we truly can be prepared for any potential physical threat. 2

Tacenda Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 What do you think caused this Pogi? I was there recently on the Jerry Rogue river trip! So much fun! I guess it's possible to have a tsunami in non sea waters! Where is everyone, asleep? It does lie aside the ocean, so maybe that had something to do with it! I'm typing as I watch. It's so powerful, glad the structures are built on higher ground!
Bobbieaware Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Looks terrifying! From USA Today: "Tsunami! In a river?Q: Can a local tsunami occur in rivers or in small lakes (like the Dead Sea)? Main imageAustin Post, USGSMt. St. Helens erupting, May 1980A: Yes it can. As you know, tsunamis are waves that sweep across vast stretches of ocean to flood the land – usually after an earthquake drops or lifts the ocean floor. However, the same phenomenon can happen in rivers and lakes. Moreover, an ocean-going tsunami can roll up into a river and cause a local tsunami there. That's what happened in 1946 on the Big Island of Hawaii. A tsunami advanced up the Wialuku River near the city of Hilo. On April 1, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake shook the Aleutians and started a tsunami rolling thousands of miles down the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii. The powerful wave engulfed the Hawaiian Islands and lifted a 5-story-high wall of water (56 feet or 17 meters) into Hilo Bay in the Big Island of Hawaii. In addition to killing 159 people and causing millions of dollars of damage, the tsunami surged up the Wialuku River near Hilo. It tore a whole span off the railroad bridge.Tsunamis can occur in lakes, too. On May 18, 1980 in Washington State, the top of the volcano, Mount St. Helens, blew off. The rubble that had been a mountaintop slid downhill at great speed and slammed into Spirit Lake: causing a local tsunami of formidable size. The giant wave surged around the lake as high as 820 feet (250 meters) above the old lake level – almost as high as the Eiffel Tower. The high water ran up the valley head, and then swept back into the lake, rinsing the valley sides clean of timber and sediment.Tsunamis may have occurred in the Dead Sea in 315 A.D. and again in 362 A.D., but none in recent times.(Answered by April Holladay, science correspondent, May 1, 2002)"I wonder if the victims of this river Tsunami's thought it was a big joke when death and destruction rolled into town?Further surfing Thumb Tsunamis move at aircraft speedWonderQuest: Why waters leave a bayResources: Earthquakes and tsunamisUSC, tsunami research group: tsunami in Wialuku RiverUSGS: Mount St. Helens, WashingtonNOAA/NGDC: Tsunami events database (worldwide)Federal Emergency Management Agency: Tsunami safety

It's so powerful, glad the structures are built on higher ground! I was actually saying that kind of tongue-in-cheek. It really is pretty impressive for a river, but it was not 2004-Indian-Ocean-tsunami-impressive that you would expect from a last-days prophecy. I just couldn't hear the run-for-your-lives fear in their voices on the video. Edited September 15, 2015 by pogi

Ok, that's a little more convincing
Bobbieaware Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Ok, that's a little more convincingI can't provide a link at the moment, but if you go to YouTube and look up "tsunami Kesennuma" you'll be able to see just how destructive a river tsunami can be.

I'd never heard of a River tsunami before. I guess I'll have to stop mocking JR for her "tsunami prophesy". Darn it. Still don't expect it to happen in the next 3 years though. 1

Sigh is right. At least the brethren don't have to worry about planning for Conference since the end of the world is Sept 28th. This reminds me of the story from 15 years ago when the FLDS gathered to a large field waiting for Christ to return. It didn't happen but don't worry. The prophet received a revelation that Christ was allowing them more time to prepare so...you know...not a false prophesy.
KevinG Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Well that's embarrassing. At least they quoted Elder Packer for the official church stance. But the headline... Oh my! 1

I predict Julie Rowe's followers will be disappointed when their purchase of extra prepper items finally exceed their use by date. 2
thesometimesaint Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Sometimes it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool. Than it is to speak and remove all doubt.
cinepro Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 (edited) This was even discussed on a popular (secular) talk radio show here in Los Angeles yesterday: http://www.kfiam640.com/media/podcast-john-and-ken-on-demand-JohnandKen/914-6pm-is-obama-a-muslim-26350565/ They start talking about Julie Rowe at the 4:00 mark.
