Boy Scout Executive Committee To Vote On Allowing Lgbt Leaders

The more likely scenario is that some militant, practicing homosexual, in order to force the political issue, would demand the privilege to lead an LDS troop and would try to leverage the national BSA leadership to make it happen.

I could envision that happening.

Of course you do because the gay regime actually gives a damn about the LDS church that much. Edited by Valentinus

I hope the Church and BSA realizes that Gay Scout leaders aren't the same as pedophiles. Gay men aren't interested in boys, they are interested in other gay men that they are attracted just like a Straight man is interested in Single women that they are attracted to

Further proof that Canadians are of superior intellect. I vote for Duncan and Halconero to make up part of the First Presidency.

[quote name="Buckeye" post="1209513952" timestamp="14369006But how about a married gay man? Conceivable under the current guidelines if the Bishop thought it wise and proper. I wouldn't be surprised if future scouting handbooks include a note addressing this (new) possibility.

The church puts a lot of emphasis on it's youth and teaching them correct principles. Having a married gay man as a scout leader would give mixed messages when it comes to the law of chastity. Doesn't mean the men are not qualified to be a scout leader, but I can't see it happening in the church.

I also doubt many bishops would even consider this option. But some might. The key would be whether the man (or woman) was actively teaching against the church, rather than simply living different standards. Just as a bishop could reasonably call a coffee-drinking non-member as an assistant scout master, but expect that the man would not bring coffee on campouts and not teach the boys that coffee is acceptable, I could see some bishops (at least in wards that would approve) that would feel comfortable calling a married non-member gay man to the same position (or if it makes it easier, consider a scouting committee member; i.e., no campouts) so long as the man did not actively teach the boys contrary to church doctrine.

EDA: Consider an easier example. Suppose the boys express an interest in auto maintenance. The scoutmaster calls the local council and arranges for a counselor to come teach the badge to the boys over the next two scout nights. The counselor teaches the first night and everyone is pleased. Then one of the boys looks up the counselor on facebook and learns that he is married to another man. Would the scoutmaster/bishop/ward council cancel the 2nd night just because of this? I seriously doubt it, at least in every ward I've been in. The counselor is just teaching auto maintenance, not preaching against the church.

ScoutsCanada has allowed lgbt scouts and leaders for many years.  And the Church continues to be a sponsor of troops in ScoutsCanada.  I don't see things playing any differently in the U.S.

The only case I can think of when someone tried to get the BSA to force changes in the LDS church was when, under the priesthood correlation program, the Church started to insist that the deacons quorum president must be the senior patrol leaders.  Since those of black African descent were not eligible for priesthood ordination in the Church at the time, a law suit was brought that the policy effectively excluded blacks from serving in scout leadership in LDS troop.  The Church quickly changed its policy and the suit was dropped.  http://www.aaregistry.org/historic_events/view/racism-boy-scouts-lds-utah I suppose the LDS church could have chosen to drop out of the BSA in order to preserve its prerogative to select troop leaders in a way that discriminated based on race, but it chose not to do so (perhaps because the then president of the church was already praying and meditating about whether God wanted the Church to eliminated the discriminatory priesthood and temple exclusion).

It can be a temptation for some, though.

I get your point.  I think.  That being gay isn't equivalent to being a pedophile.  However, the way it is phrased makes it sound like gay men are never interested sexually in boys.  Which isn't true.  Some are.  Just as some straight men are interested sexually in girls.  And some straight women are interested sexually in boys.

I am sure that both the Church and the BSA do not believe that gay = pedophile and that pedophiles are found across the whole spectrum of sexual orientation.  But those who believe that pedophiles are only found among heterosexuals are ignorant in this regard.  The things we do to protect our children from pedophiles should be consistent across the board.  We shouldn't automatically assume that our children are in danger of sexual assault simply because the other party is gay, but neither should we assume that they are safe because the other party is straight.

Not sure anyone suggested that pedophilia is unique to heterosexuals.

That seems like a fanciful imagination.  Has the national BSA leadership ever meddled in the affairs of an individual troop that way?

All this change does is allow sponsoring organizations a little more freedom regarding who they choose to be scout masters.  It doesn't force anyone to do anything.

Remember what forced the issue: a scout council in New York wanted to hire an openly gay 18-year eagle scout as a camp counselor.  Allowing them to hire who they want to hire doesn't take anything away from other councils or troops.

LDS won't have an issue participating in jamborees or other scout functions with gay scoutmasters that may lead boys in courses or activities?

I guess I don't see the problem with openly gay adults being scoutmasters...are opponents implying that gay = pedophile? Or that homosexuality is a choice and gay scoutmasters will recruit kids into homosexuality? Or maybe allowing homosexuals to be scoutmasters will "trample" some religious "freedom."

According to my reading on the subject, pederasty is the most representative form of male homosexual behaviour.

And, despite what homosexual advocates tell the rest of the world, among themselves there is considerable chatter about how to "nail that straight guy!" -- and how to socialise young men to be receptive to homosexual advances.

The all-encompassing bludgeon of "non-discrimination" means that about five minutes after any troop is allowed to appoint homosexual leaders, every troop will be required to do so.

Which does, indeed, trample upon actual religious freedoms.

Not that we expect you to value such things.

Oh good, Russell's here. CFR your claims of significant predatory sexual behavior in the homosexual community as you described. Also explain how a private organization requiring another private organization to do something is trampling religious freedom.

Even for you Russell, this is a new intellectual low.

Not sure about the predatory behavior, but the gay culture is greatly steeped into the drug culture.  That's a fact.  Look it up.  Even the gay sites report on it as epidemic.

Of course this Eagle Scout feature in the picture (front center Pascal Tessier Eagle Scout and openly gay) is just looking to have easy access to teenage boys, right; because we can not trust "them gays" to do anything except recruit for their perverse lifestyle.

I know you are being sarcastic but perhaps you should be more sensitive in your hyperbole because that stuff really happens.. I was molested by an older scout. No I didn't turn him in, I was embarrassed beyond belief. Whatever the Scouts do I will never, ever be a part of it. The Scout Troop I was in was not affiliated with the LDS Church.

Much worse in the gay culture.  Were you unaware of this?

I don't typically read about gay drug use from UK papers, so no I was not aware :vader:
