Life Is Too Hard

You can support SSM and still be a faithful member of the Church. But don't try pass it off as doctrine of the Church.

I know. But put that idea that we can actually disagree with the position of the Church with having to have knowledge that the course the Church takes is God's will...well it makes ya question what allowing people to disagree means.

The peace that Jesus is describing is inner peace, that comes from the knowledge that our sins are forgiven. Not just the one's we know about and repented of, but all of them. You don't think that God relies on our feeble memory and ability to repent of things only we are aware of do you? No. The peace that passes all understanding rests on the fact that God knows all our sins, past present and future, that we aren't even aware of and forgives us.

There were numerous occasions where Peter and Paul were in prison, yet they were singing to God and rejoicing. Our peace doesn't come from our circumstances, rather from God who doesn't change.

Makes ya wonder what the purpose of repenting is, no? If God knows all your past, present and future sins, forgives you when you repent, and actually inspires you and commands you to repent, why not just forgive everyone? After all what He does for one He can do for all, no?

It means you have the right to be wrong but being wrong comes with consequences.

He could, but not everyone wants it.

Wow. So allowing members to disagree isn't giving any credence to the possibility of being wrong themselves?

Do you think Elder Christofferson's allowance on this to be a too soft approach? By so suggesting he's okaying more members out of the kingdom of God?

Because God makes forgiveness contingent on seeking it and I do not know if God can override free will but even if he can he will not.

Show me one person who would not repent about something, and you'll find a psychotic person. And show me one person who has repented about everything he/she does or at least claims to, and again you'll find a psychotic person.

So we're left wondering how much to repent of, no?

I know lots of psychotic people if that is our new definition. I do not think we need to individually identify each sin from birthday we turned eight to now but we do need to be repentant and seek forgiveness.

I know lots of people who refuse to acknowledge that their sins are sins and justify them as necessary or "just the way they are" or whatever.

Me too. But that doesn't mean they won't repent. interestingly enough that someone does repent and is repentant at some time does not mean they also won't be unrepentant about something else that they should be. We're all somewhere in that mix, it seems to me, and only some of us, as it turns out, or so we're told, are going to be lovingly welcomed into the Celestial realm by God. So, I say, go figure.

I am like J Golden Kimball, I repent too damn fast to go to hell.

Nothing short of an actual knowledge of their being favorites of heaven? Who feels that way? Seems like the wrong approach to me. How would one justify knowing they are a favorite in heaven? And think God not have favorites as the NT suggests?

I tried to raise my children to both feel they were favourites and everyone else in the family is as well loved. It is a paradox but still I feel that way about my family.

I think in some way God can achieve this even though it is a paradox to us.

THat's probably the feeling of many who will have to depart from Him rather than be accepted of Him.

It means join ward choir.  ;)  :P  Not hiding your talents doesn't mean you have to be the one in the spotlight.  It means you use them however you can and develop them.  Some people would rather stay home from ward choir and take a nap.  Did I mention I'm choir director?

Yeah, but I have th Holy Ghost and I bet those chumps don't.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I think the parable, as was yesterday, is mostly understood as members being given talents and skills and they must utilize those, expand those in order to build the kingdom. But you're application works as well.

The point of the OP seems to be on the table no matter which way you prefer to think of it. After all, as much as we throw our hats in the rings, each of us will set aside some of that Church work for other things.

Its about building the kingdom of heaven, plain and simple. If you are building the kingdom then you are improving upon the talents. If you are not building the kingdom then you are not using the talents. A "talent" as used in the NT was meant to be a weight and measurement of money in Christs time.

We're all building to different extents, though. You seem to suggest that's because some people have less responsibility than others. I say it's because different people and at different times, give different amounts.

I would have a hard time not noticing. I screwed up last night and lost the Holy Ghost and my dreams were nightmares and I still feel unsettled.

I wouldn't take it all too seriously. Just live your life and relax. Try to do your best and if not, don't worry about it. Also, the parable is not necessarily about talents.

My sunday school lesson was more or less along these lines:

http://www.gotquestions.org/parable-talents.html

Which was a little different from stems class.

At the end of the day we can only try to do our best as human beings and take verse 40 to heart when it says that what we do whether good or bad, it is also done to christ. So, if we feed the hungry. We also fed christ. If we cheated the poor...we also cheated christ. This is the most important message of the gospel as found in Mathew:

Matthew 25:40

King James Version of Matthew 25:40.

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

This is the five finger gospel: You did it to me. Such was what guided mother theresa in her work as a missionary of charity. She often quoted the five finger gospel taken from verse 40.

How do you seek forgiveness for sins you're not aware of?

We all feel inadequate because quite frankly we all are that is what the atonement of Christ is all about. We can feel our worth by pressing forward in faith and enduring the following scripture comes to mind: Alma 26:27

Sorry I could not copy and paste it for some reason but I am sure you can read it yourself. The gist is that as we have patience in our afflictions the Lord can comfort us through His spirit. Hope this helps.

Some obviously do have less responsibility than others. thats completely obvious.

I would start with:

"O Jesus Christ thou Son of God have mercy on me."

I thought the first step of repentance was to recognize you've done something wrong.  It seems like an obvious contradiction to me.

It seems obvious to me that anyone who says and means that phrase is recognizing they have done things wrong.

I don't know if we should not, it just feels like, to me, that we simply do not and probably can not.But if it so be that we should not, perhaps it's good in that it keeps us feeling like we need to repent and do more, constantly, never stopping until He calls us home.

If we don't know our standing with God, shouldn't we ask Him?
