Stargazer Posted April 9, 2015 Author Posted April 9, 2015 Well, all the kids are coming in for a visit from all across the country. Something that hasn't happened since 15 years ago. That's one small consolation. I thank everyone for your kind words and encouragement! For all that I do look forward in faith to the resurrection and our eternal sealing to each other, I notice anew every moment in the now that will I will look back upon wishing that that moment had extended itself. Took me hours to get to sleep last night because all I could concentrate on was listening to her breathe beside me. 1
Tacenda Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I will always regret not filming my mom before her Alzheimer's got so bad. I'm always telling people this. But I'm sure you and your wife have already thought of doing this.
Garden Girl Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 (edited) I will always regret not filming my mom before her Alzheimer's got so bad. I'm always telling people this. But I'm sure you and your wife have already thought of doing this. I transferred a lot of VHS to DVD...every now and then I get out some of my favorites and watch them. I've got two or three that are really good and I love having them to watch whenever I want. Plus, my husband was a real photographer and we have about 12 albums of pictures in chronological order... I also love looking at the albums... what memories I have!! Stargazer, I too take comfort in thinking about being sealed and being eternal companions...Sometimes after a busy day at work, etc., I used to have trouble sleeping, and so I'd match my breathing to Ray's and I'd be asleep in no time... I've been widowed almost 15 years... GG GG Edited April 9, 2015 by Garden Girl
Stargazer Posted April 10, 2015 Author Posted April 10, 2015 I will always regret not filming my mom before her Alzheimer's got so bad. I'm always telling people this. But I'm sure you and your wife have already thought of doing this. She didn't like doing it, but I did get in some videoing over the last few years. Plus we have some old 8mm that was transferred to VHS -- and I will have to transfer it to DVD at some point.
rpn Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Filming her talking about flowers or books or whatever her lifelong interests are, or letters to grandkids for special moments or simply her history (you can make this a joint thing for the two of you and give it for next Christmas presents and it will be so much appreciated by your children). 1
CCRW Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Oh my gosh Stargazer, I am so sorry to hear this. I'm going to somewhat out myself here, which I did not want to do right away. I went to put "Cancer Sucks" as my signature, but changed it because of wanting to stay low for awhile. I have spent the last 3.5 years dealing with my own serious cancer ... radiation, chemo, four major surgeries, permanent chronic left overs. Cancer sucks ... I know you understand this and I am so so sorry to hear this. I am treated at Utah Cancer Specialists. One day in the lobby I picked up this large book from "Lilly Oncology On Canvas" I wept. Every time I go in, I look for that book ... and weep again. I do not know if this will help or hurt. Please look and share with you wife if you find it appropriate. This is an ongoing art competition started sometime around 2004 and there is a book, and online archive for every couple years. There are several categories of type as well as family, friend, caregiver and patient. http://www.lillyoncology.com/lilly-oncology-on-canvas/scroll down a bit for the 2006 to 2012 galleries. Once again, I'm so sorry. I picture does say a 1000 unspeakable feelings/words.
Jeanne Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Stargazer..my love and friendship towards you and your family is extended. Later on, from my own experience of losing my husband to cancer, you will find yourself very grateful that you had time to talk..to laugh..to remember things..a time limit of sorts is difficult, but I counted my lucky stars later on realizing that so many people do not get this chance. Say the things that need to be said..notice the little things..and express love always. This is a sad time..but a comforting time too. Love to all of your family..and may the strength you gain help others along the way. Jeanne
Grudunza Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Peace and love to you, brother. I lost my wife two years ago after a long illness (though it was unexpected at the time). Cherish every moment.
rodheadlee Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 I respectfully offer D&C 42:4646 And it shall come to pass that those that die in me shall not taste of death, for it shall be sweet unto them 2
Daniel2 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Wishing you and your sweetheart all the best in the coming months, Stargazer. Bittersweet that you must part for a time, but wonderful that you have time to relish loving and pampering her in her autumninal season. Peace and blessings!
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 That's such sad news, but I know she is a worthy daughter of God and will be at total peace when the time comes. It'll be you that needs the most comfort and support.
