Should We Pray?

Recommended Posts

Part of the excommunication process is to help the person repent and do what is necessary to return to full membership. Perhaps he needs to go through the process first and we can pray for his success.

Of course- why even ask?

I am starting another thread about JD. I was just thinking that perhaps we should, as a group, start praying for the Lord to touch him and bring him to repentance so that he doesn't get excommunicated, and instead of being a detractors, he could be a great asset and bringing people back to the faith.

perhaps of we united in this effort, the Lord may intervene in a positive way in his life before the next step happens.

what do you guys think?

Alma and Mosiah prayed for their sons and they ultimately changed their tune.

Perhaps he and his followers should start a prayer group to enlighten your minds to his way of thinking aye?

Is it not rather arrogant to assume really that your way is the correct way or path for everyone.

This is one of the major downfalls if the One True Church syndrome. And it applies to other religions as well. Just look at Islmamsists.

If it is a downfall (and i think sometimes it is and sometimes it's not) then it's one of the downfalls of everyone.

You yourself are an illustration of this.  You have assumed that everyone should be like you and believe that there is no one correct way or path for everyone.  By your own words therefore, you are arrogant and on equal footing with both the LDS church and Islamists.

Oh no bluebell. You are wrong. I DO NOT think everyone should be like me.  When I was more of a solid Mormon I believed that. Now... I will admit I just do not know.  Avatar may be right?  Avatar does think Avatar is right.  I confess there may be one right way.  Really.

I am reading a book not called God is not One. It argues that the many paths leads to God approach is certainly a fallacy given what major religions teach.   And then it outlines the good and bad of the world's great faiths. It covers eight of them. I am reading about Islam now.  There is much in it I really like as well as don't like.

If there is one true path I want to find it. Unfortunately I don't think it is Mormonism but I could be wrong and am open  to it still. It is after all where I have spent my life.

So no you are wrong about me.

Then why did you call Avatar arrogant for assuming that there is one correct path for everyone if you believe his assumptions are valid?

Do you always call people arrogant when you believe they may be right?

1:  Because I believe it is an arrogant position.  Apparently you disagree.

2:  Oh sure all the time.    :diablo:

Is it arrogant to believe the scriptures and want to see people blessed by the Lord?

I believe because the Lord said it was true. Why shouldn't I? And it's clear alot of people are on danger of falling away without the Lord.

is it arrogant to know understand and do calculus if others dont know it? Is it arrogant to say ou constitution protects the free of speech if others dont know it does?

1: Yes it is arrogant if you promote that YOUR view of scripture is the only right one.

2: what did the lord say? How do you KNOW your understanding is really the way of the Lord?

3: I do not understand your other comments .

you have access to the one true faith as well. That faith is Jesus Christ.

Could be. Who knows. What if Mohammed was right?

What if Joseph Smith was right?  The what if game can be played endlessly but when the game is over each must choose.

precisely why we need to ask God and find out for ourselves

Teancum, are you saying that you can't know?  Know in the sense that the results are indisputable by any party observing with integrity?

And since you can't know, it's arrogant to act as though you do?

Would it be fair to say we're - I don't want to say lying, as that's kinda harsh, but, maybe, say, disingenuous?

So avatar is arrogant because he believes he is right and those who disagree with him are wrong?

It isn't about me being right. It's about the Lord being right.

I realize that is where you are coming from.  But from Teancum's perspective this isn't so much about the Lord as it is about you and those who hold a position similar to yours.
