Ahab Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Sigh...auto-correct.Well I'm glad that you set a fine example of what it means to be chaste, and I'm sure that someday you'll have a good wife who appreciates it, too.
why me Posted May 29, 2014 Author Posted May 29, 2014 Äs another example of making sex into a commodity there will be a reality show called The Sex Factor: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/belle-knox-host-x-rated-reality-show-sex-factor-article-1.1808954 I have this feeling that sex is basically a act without meaning for a great many people. Or what ever meaning it does have may not be the meaning that the church would wish for the world.

mormonnewb Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.Luke 18

But after rereading each post, I'm not sure what was said that may have prompted you to post as you did (perhaps I'm a bit I'm dense on this one). I didn't discern any self-righteousness in the previous posts, but rather simple statements of truth without anyone getting up on a high horse. I am not disposed to pry, but if you feel so disposed I'd be interested to know what was said that impelled you to post the Saviour's words. Edited May 29, 2014 by teddyaware
MorningStar Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Doesn't matter how old fashioned chastity is. Herpes will always be the in thing. Mormon or not, I think it's disgusting that people try to sleep with as many people as possible. 1

The whole "vibe" of the thread just brought that verse to mind. I'm sure it's just me but here's how it sounded to me: 10 Two men went up into the [message board] to vent; the one a Mormon, and the other a sex lister.11 The Mormon [typed] and prayed thus with himself, "God, I thank thee, that I am not as [the sex listers. I have been chaste since my youth and now enjoy a God-honoring marriage.]" And yes, I'm aware that no one said this EXPLICITLY, but jt does seem to be the general tone of the thread. "We're doing it right and THEY are doing it wrong and we're so much the better for it." But hey, don't let me stand in the way of a good rant about THOSE sinners. But just as a hint from a former Baptist, we sound much less self-righteous if we throw in a "bless their hearts" every now and again. "It just seems like the young people today have no moral compass, bless their hearts. All they care about is their own pleasure and bliss versus living up to their Lord's standards, bless their hearts. I'm just so glad that my kids were brought up in the Church, where we understand the true will of the Lord, bless our hearts." 1
teddyaware Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Great stuff! I appreciate your perspective on this... and your writing skills. 1
thatjimguy Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 A very absurd article. One group of friends makes a list of all the people they have sex and consider it "therapeutic" because they each think their number is too high, but then realize they have the same number of sex partners. Another person interviewed feels guilty and inadequate because of her "not high enough" number of sex partners when compared to her friends. I wouldn't say it's absurd, or even new really. The only difference between these lists and "kiss and tell" is sex. Both men and women view conquests (sexual or not) to satisfy their egos. Men talk about their conquests, young girls "Keep tally" of how many guys they can lead on to ask them out, etc.

Much like coffee or alcohol, they have not made a covenant that we have. Edited May 29, 2014 by thatjimguy 1

"Expected to air online this fall" Ivesaidthisbefore, but I think we seriously overestimate the degree to which past generations have been "chaste". And to the degree that they were "chaste", we should ask how much of that was "encouraged" by the enforcement of morality laws such as anti-fornication laws. While I, for one, don't condone sex outside of marriage, if the current "do whatever you want" mentality is fostered by living in a society in which people have the freedom to do whatever they want, it might not totally be a bad thing.

Recognizing such, without glorying in it, is not wrong. Also recognizing that our chastity should be an example unto the believers is also commendable. 1
