ERayR Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I have been getting pop up Ads when placing my cursor on blue words. For instance on General Discussions heading three words are highlighted and all hree go to a different ad. Is this something the forum has initiated?
urroner Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Is this the forum or the people who own the server which hosts the forum. Personally, I think it's the moderators. Money grubbers every last one.I have seen that on other sites, but I never have on this one. On my widows machine, I've installed a addon call Ghostery. It tracks the trackers who are tracking you on the web page. You can shut them all down or allow them all or only certain ones. Some are good, others are not so good. This stopped a lot of that blue word advertisement stuff if it's done through a tracker like code. And the pages load quicker also.

It's probably with your computer, you just need to check your programs, somehow you may have clicked on a site that automatically downloaded it. I would just have to keep going to it and deleting it. Go to your Control Panel, click on Uninstall Programs. Check to see if you have recently installed programs. Then uninstall it. I wish I remembered the name. When it happened to me I kept uninstalling it, until it finally left for good.
Lightbearer Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 It has happened to me once, when I went into a thread about divorce. Not sure where it is from. I am on a Foxfire browser, do not know if that has any effect. Not sure how to block popups with this new browser.

Is this something the forum has initiated?click on the "globe" on the left side of your screen. In the box, type uninstall. Click on uninstall a program. Go back to the time when you think the problem started. Uninstall anything that was installed on that date. This may help, at least that is what I have been doing. Good Luck.
Nemesis Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 This site does not add any ads to it nor accepts advertising to support it. Check your browser security settings.Nemesis
MorningStar Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 That happened to my mom and it was from an add-on in Google Chrome.

Tacenda Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I have done all that. It just seems to happen on this site. It makes me consider avoiding the site altogether. That was my case too, just this site. But don't give up, we don't want to lose you! Did you go to your programs and see if something new has installed?
DBMormon Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) ErayR - Go into your browsers options and check addon's there may be a foreign progam thereAlso go to control panel and go to add/remove programs and see if something stands out and is a red flag as far as recent programs installed that you didn't add. Also the latest version of Ad-Aware removes it as well! Edited February 10, 2014 by DBMormon
ERayR Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 Thanks I just changed browsers and it went away so will have to work on my regular browser. I have been through my programs add and remove on the control panel. I run 3 different malware detectors. Thanks all for the suggestions and help. I shall overcome. (or be overcome)
ERayR Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 I use Firefox also. I just tried Explorer and it seems to go away. It indicates I have a problem with the settings in my Firefox so will have to work on it. Thanks
ERayR Posted February 11, 2014 Author Posted February 11, 2014 I got my tech man to look at the problem. It is a program. called highlightly, written to imbed itself in browsers and generate income for its writer every time someone activates the ad link. It also seems quite pernicious and hard to eliminate.
