emmaleehughes Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I'm 29, live in Northern Ireland, a SAHM to two little boys... and I've been married for 6 1/2 years. I became inactive when I was about 17 and started going out to church again in June. My husband is a total non-believer... but we have a mutual respect for each believing what they want to. I'm so so so enjoying having church back in my life and am loving taking my boys with me each Sunday. I'd like to make some LDS friends though. There aren't many my age in my ward.... and most of the youth I knew growing up have moved away. 2
rpn Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 But I'll bet there are other young mothers who would also enjoy what you enjoy about the church. People usely find them at school functions, and then invite them to Relief Society meetings.
MorningStar Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Welcome! One of my best friends is from Northern Ireland. Makes me wonder if you might know each other since she is also LDS. She has younger siblings though who aren't active.
Garden Girl Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Welcome emmaleehughes... from the beautiful central Oregon, USA coast... (Pacific Ocean).also from one former longtime inactive to another... except my inactivity was from about age 20 to 55... but all through the years I would get promptings from the Spirit to return to Church, and I never stopped my scripture reading or prayers... and never lost my deep testimony... I had married a wonderful non-LDS man, and it isn't hard to slip into inactivity when he would want to be going places for the weekend like camping, etc. Finally while watching Gen Conf in 1995 I told him I was really feeling the need to return to Church, and he was very supportive... and continued to be so until his unexpected death in 1998. Had he lived a few years longer I think he would have joined... however, because of his attitude and behavior regarding the Church, I felt comfortable having his temple work completed and I'm now sealed to him. I hope you will be able to make some friends in your age group... I'm 72... widowed... no children... share my life with a pushy 20-lb cat named "Bob." I hope you will continue to be active... will grow your faith and testimony... I think you'll find this site interesting and informative... just remember that we have all types of people participating here from active LDS to non-actives to former LDS to numerous other faiths to agnostics to atheists and finally to our share of critics. You'll soon figure out who is who... One of the best trips my husband and I took was a 3-week vacation to the British Isles with a 2-day side trip over to Ireland. We took the ferry... landed near Waterford, rented a car, and headed out... made a wide circle through Cork up and around through Limerick and Cashel... went to kiss the Blarney Stone and back down to the ferry... didn't get too far north... but absolutely loved the Ireland countryside and villages... Emerald... My sourvenirs from Ireland were a carved wooden "loving spoon" and a white scarf with green shamrocks, with "Ireland' embroidered in one corner. I wore it to Church just the other day... Again... welcome! How did you find this site? from the beach... GG

Again... welcome! How did you find this site? from the beach... GG Hi! Thanks so much for your post! I am so glad you enjoyed your trip to Ireland. I love it here, but as the saying goes, the grass is always greener and I'd give anything to live elsewhere for a while. Northern Ireland is not without it's difficulties as I am sure you have heard of the trouble we have here sometimes... and oh boy the weather. What I'd give to live somewhere with a LOT of sun haha! I found this site through google. I was looking for an LDS forum to join
RBoylan Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Wow, another person from God's Country :-) Welcome aboard! Robert (currently in south Dublin) 1
Calm Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I love it that we get posters here from all over the world....gives us such a great chance to see life in new ways. Thanks for choosing this board to post on. Hope that it fits your need. We have a lot of nonLDS who post here too, including some highly critical of the faith and others extremely supportive and sometimes things can get heated (never assume a poster is LDS unless they say so even if 'teaching' LDS principles as a few nonLDS take it upon themselves to teach us what we believe), but the mods try to keep things civil. For me it is a great mix of differences discussed in a mostly civil way with a lot of friendliness thrown in as well too from most posters, no matter their religious beliefs or lack of them. 1

ERMD Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 A young man from our ward recently returned from the Scotland/Ireland mission. He loved it. My family emigrated to the US in the 1820s; came from County Kildaire.
