So am I seeing this right that they no longer require you to part your hair? I remember when I was in the MTC in numerous buildings they would have a picture of Christ with a mirror next to it and a caption of "the Savior has done his part, are you doing yours?" For the first week or so I thought it was supposed to be an inspirational message. Then I realized they were literally talking about the part.

Madsen (probably spelling that wrong) visited my mission and one of the lasting changes he implemented was the new rule that the elders had to have a part in their hair (this was in 1998). My mission president was NOT a fan of the rule (he frequently could be heard muttering under his breath how President Hinckley, Monson and other GAs didn't have a part), but most of the elders tried, at least for a while, to be obedient. It looked funny on most of them, since the hair style was kind of dated.

My recollection is that missionaires serving in hot-weather situations have always been allowed some leeway, but it was more along the lines of "removing your suit coat"; however, I think this general guideline indicating slacks (not suit pants) and ties may be "new."

I served in the late 70s warm climate and we wore short-sleeve white shirt and ties.
