Right, but in relation to the OP, the point is that it could be shorter and just as edifying. I know I'm not alone in saying that the majority of conference talks are reheated leftovers from previous conferences. a lot of times the GAs quote each others previous talks.

They do, but imho, they are still worth watching. Especially President Monson's (and President Uchtdorf as well for that matter). I love his stories so much!

As Stargazer said, you can meet your need (by turning off the TV when you've had enough) easier than he can fill his (devouring every minute of the conference and wishing for more when it's all over).

The songs are to allow for commercials because the conference sessions are broadcast on tv and radio. (I rather think that even if there comes a time when they are only done by satellite, they'll still do the music, though.)

General conference is presented free as a public service; it doesn't carry commercials, though some stations market the time just before and just after the broadcast. The hymn time is used for "station identification," however.

An intermediate congregational hymn is a long-established tradition in the Church for longer meetings; I don't think the hymns are intended just as a filler for broadcast purposes.

I'm pretty sure i was in one of the smaller rooms in the main building where the cafeterias were. All i really remember was that it was the conference where Pres. Hinckely announced all the temples, making it an even hundred that would be in operation when they were all finally built.

Elder Bednar and I have that in common. I would like the fifth verse as my epitaph. (I'm not saying it has to be anytime soon, mind you, but ... )

I am one who wishes GC could be every weekend. I cannot get enough and I am a little sad when it ends. I am always awestruck by the spirit of revelation that is there. Anyone who watches Conference and cannot tell these men are living prophets and apostles are spiritually deaf and blind. The reason they feed the flock with these spiritual feasts is because it is the only time they get to reach the entire Church. 10 hours is only a small amount of time to last for 6 months. I wish I could sustain the same intensity of spirit that is found there 24-7...but alas we have to go back into the world to fight the good fight. It is a time of renewal and a recharging of spiritual batteries. Back in the old days they had welfare meetings during the week as well as Saturday and Sunday sessions. I was at the MTC for the October 1979 Conference and it was wonderful. I was on my Mission in Canada when the Church had it's 150th General Conference and I only got to see one session on Canadian T.V.

I always enjoyed conference even as a child and still do. I am hoping that the Proclaimation on the Family will be added to the D&C as OD-3, I think it would be appropriate in light of the new update of the scriptures. That is what I am looking for this Conference!

Am I the only one who thinks General Conference is too long? Really, we need 10 hours of sermons?

How about a Church Statistical report, announcements of new Temples and GAs, a sustaining vote, and then a sermon by the President of the Church and the President of the Quorum of the Twelve, and perhaps the Presiding Bishop? It could all be done in a single two hour session and give everyone more time to spend with their families.

The only excuse for ten hours of sermons is that the Saints are too lazy to take responsibility for their own spirituality.

No. We need quite alot more!

Do you think the Saints as a whole live up to the revelations we have?

Unfortunately, No. Well, maybe I shouldnt speak for others, but I know I don't. Im working at changing that.
