RegularMormon Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 My son got his mission papers recently. We're preparing to go get his endowments soon prior. My wife and I would like to sit down with him and prepare him as much as we "can" before going to the temple for his first time. Any good advise? Good resources/references you can share? So much going on my head is spinning lol.
Duncan Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Where is he going to be serving? Have him read go through this bibliography and see if anything jumps out at himhttp://www.templestudies.org/home/introduction-to-a-temple-studies-bibliography/as you may know Danel Bachman is a member of the Church

The Nehor Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Reassure him that you only have to bite off the head of a live chicken the first time you go through the temple. 3
Gohan Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 very exciting! looks like they have a blog uphttp://nevadarenomission.blogspot.ca/My old mission! Kind of! I served there - in Sparks specifically - for six months back before they split off from the Las Vegas West Mission. I don't know much about how it is now, but if your son has any questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them.

Buzzard Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Better watch out. Everyone knows that Reno is so close to h--l that on a clear day you can see Sparks. 2
Garden Girl Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Elder Packer's The Holy Temple book and Nibley's Temple and Cosmos are both excellent.I agree.... on both counts, but particularly Temple and Cosmos....GG
cdowis Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I think the understanding of the temple is a personal journey. I would stay away from anything outside the scriptures, and only use them after the firs temple experience. Finally he should attend the temple more than once a month -- I try go go every week, and take yor own family names.

The Nehor Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Wait...what Temple only requires once? The temple in Ry'leh where dread Cthulhu lies dreaming.
Nathair/|\ Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Wait...what Temple only requires once? In Cardston, it's bats after the first time.
blackstrap Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 In Cardston, it's bats after the first time.I must have missed those bats,... unless you are talking about the OLD ones. 1
Damien the Leper Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Sit your son down and ask him to read Justification by N.T. Wright and The New Perspective on Paul by James D.G. Dunn.
