What Does 'Generation Of Vipers' Mean?

Also found in D&C 121:23:

"Wo unto all those that discomfort my people, and drive, and murder, and testify against them, saith the Lord of Hosts; a generation of vipers shall not escape the damnation of hell."

According to the dictionary, a viper is "a dangerous, treacherous, or malignant person." The name is taken from a poisonous snake that is common in Europe and whose name had generally been applied to various venemous creatures. The fiends who so mistreated the Saints in the early days would certainly qualify as "a generation of vipers" under this definition.

In Matthew 12 Christ calls some folks "Generation of Vipers" what, may I ask, does that mean?

Modern translations include:

You slime balls!

OR

You bunch of slithering leeches!

OR

You're not the best group of people in the world now, are you! (notice this is rhetorical)

OR

Why don't you crawl back into that hole you came from!

Vipers are not just found in Europe. Rattlesnakes in their various forms are pit vipers, so called because of the heat sensing pits between the eye and the nostril. They are indeed dangerous and not to be trusted.

Christ was teaching reincarnation and that some people will be reborn as snakes. An unorthodox interpretation to be sure but I see no other way to read the text. :)

I know a few who are prime candidates
