Lamanite Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Hip Hop finally falls in love with homosexuality. A video for the song "Same Love" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Mary Lambert was released yesterday and it deals with homosexuality and same sex marriage. For me, the fact that this message is being presented through Hip Hop indicates an increasingly rapid acceptance of homosexuals/homosexuality. This video in addition to another prominent R&B/Hip Hop artist (Frank Ocean) coming out of the closet prior to his album release this Summer represents a huge paradigm shift within Hip Hop and probably within its audience. This may or may not affect some of your kids, but my guess would be that either directly or indirectly it represents changes in many aspects of our society.Does the type of message in this video pose a real threat to the traditional Mormon family? Or does it simply spread a message of love and acceptance? Does the message embedded in this artistic expression lack the power necessary to corrode our eternal families, or should it be embraced as a vehicle for spreading love and understanding? Solutions?[media=] Big UP!Lamanite 1

Lamanite Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 At the very least, it demonstrates the effectiveness of gay propaganda. Thanks, -Wade Englund-You probably didn't see it but one year during the MTV Video Music Awards Britney Spears kissed Madonna. And I remember thinking, "Oh brother, what a pathetic attempt at sensationalism. We've all seen girls kiss before....no big deal." And I realized at that moment that homosexual behavior was no big deal to me because I had been regularly exposed to it by the mainstream media. And yet, I haven't turned gay yet. And my marriage hasn't fallen apart. And it hasn't compromised my beliefs about the importance families play in God's plan of happiness. And so I wonder, what is so bad about "gay propaganda?" Should I be concerned about having gay friends over to the house where their very existence is a form of gay propaganda and is witnessed by my kids?I know I'm being overly dramatic but I wonder if messages like the ones contained in the video I posted have a high percentage of nurturing love and understanding with a very low percentage for disintegrating core beliefs and sexual identities.risk/reward analysis?Big UP!LamanitePS- Did you like the song? Nice flow with a catchy hook, IMO. That's how they get ya!!!
wenglund Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 And so I wonder, what is so bad about "gay propaganda?"That you would ask, is evidence in itself of the effectiveness of gay propaganda. Here are several threads where I indirectly address your question:Thanks, -Wade Englund-
MorningStar Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Hip Hop promotes all sorts of immorality, so no surprise there. 4
CV75 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Solutions? While it may have begun as an artist's effort to be accountable for his own intolerance with a subsequent quasi-narcissistic (but expected) call for everyone else to join his sense of justice, it is now a political message and should be taken as such.

Solutions?I, for one, didn't turn gay when I watched the video.I think the "traditional Mormon family" has been destroyed for a long time. It all started about 1890. 5
Lamanite Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 (edited) I'm wondering what makes some view this as a message of love and understanding and what makes some view it as harmful propaganda?Big UP!Lamanite Edited October 3, 2012 by Lamanite

CV75 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I'm wondering what makes some view this as a message of love and understanding and what makes some view it as harmful propaganda? Here's why I think it is poltical: http://macklemore.com/post/27481163762/this-song-which-i-wrote-in-april-is-a-responseAre political messages generally messages of divine love and understanding, harmful propaganda, helpful propaganda, or a reflection of human divisiveness? In the lyrics I can see elements of all of these, but the overall message definitely favors a political stance more than anything else.
Arbiter Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 The Church went all in to defeat Prop 8 in California. You guys okay with that?

The storyline was definitely intended to provoke an emotional response. To what end? To answer both political and inspiring would probably be accurate. The video was released in conjunction with a political action group.Big UP!LamaniteP.S. I wish the troll didn't show up. That really sucks for my thread.
Bikeemikey Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 The Church went all in to defeat Prop 8 in California. You guys okay with that? Those efforts will likely be deemed unconstitutional in the next few months. Those engaged in the pro prop 8 campaign can then face the music as to whether they were violating their beloved constitution and attempting to usurp via the tyranny of the majority the freedoms of other Americans; or they can claim that a majority conservative Supreme Court is the embodiment of the destruction of American constitutional freedom.

In short, it is gay propaganda. Thanks, -Wade Englund-

Lamanite Posted October 4, 2012 Author Posted October 4, 2012 Because it is both. Thanks, -Wade Englund-Perfect.How could you isolate or create a message of love and understanding that promotes love and acceptance of homosexuals without crossing over into the political realm? Would a message like that be harmful in anyway to the Church's teachings regarding the family?Big UP!Lamanite

Would a message like that be harmful in anyway to the Church's teachings regarding the family?Big UP!LamaniteI think there have been quite a few talks by church leaders who have managed to send out messages of love and understanding that if they are listened to by church members will create a more loving and accepting attitude towards homosexuals themselves, while still maintaining concerns about the ultimate consequences of homosexual behaviour. 2
Damien the Leper Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 The Pro Prop 8 propaganda was and still is an act of terrorism on families. It is unfortunate that Americans can be so easily duped by fallacy and ignorance. Also, the propaganda that is being spit by Dobson's "Focus on the Family" continues to be the beat up Pinto running on only two good tires and failing transmission.

Maybe that response is warranted most of the time. But sometimes I think the LGBT community reaches out for the sole purpose of building bridges of love and understanding. Maybe I'm naive but I think this video, although associated with a political group, has that as a primary purpose.Big UP!Lamanite
Tacenda Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I would love to hear Elder Jensen speak in General Conference! I believe he is such a great alley for gay & disillusioned LDS folks! 1
