Church Endowment Ceremony

Should someone contact the Church legal dept.? I have no idea if it's a violation of any law but they would know

DH:

Whether it is true/accurate or not it is meant to demean and demonize someone else that is not a public figure. I'm neither a lawyer nor do I play one on television, but I think a good case could be made for slander.

Part of me is curious to see what the quality of the film is but most of me doesn't want to give the offensive website any traffic.

The quality was rather good. Unfortunately, I don't think that I can give the site. It is not on an antimormon site.

Joseph Smith valued loyalty and his greatest hurt came not from those who persecuted the church but from those once faithful members who betrayed it. Why is it people think it's ok to do something like this and betray your friends?

I said the same thing. How can someone who once believed and considered it sacred betray their friends who still find it sacred? But then again, it is the sign of the times. no empathy, no loyality...just one big realityTV show.

Meanwhile the snickering rebellious wolf chiuaua in sheeps clothing thinks they are pulling off the great train robbery while the theme from mission impossible runs through their imagination.

Having that image in my mind now will make it very difficult to take it seriously.

However, a lawsuit would be impractical, because the film would probably have to be shown in court.

Doesn't youtube take down possibly illegal videos if they are asked to?

I cannot possibly give you enough rep points for finding a picture of my twisted, unlikely and fantastic metaphor. I'm impressed.

I think you can flag videos or report them or something, but you have to watch it or something to do it

I flagged it under "other legal claim" but I don't know what legal claim I have other then it's stupid to do it-maybe others can as well-hint hint! They have options under the actual video itself

Of course I can't post the video but the blurring of the faces did not seem to work very well. I am just surprised that he could sneak a device into the ceremony and not be discovered. I think that the security needs to be upgraded. But then again, if the level of trust is high it may not be that difficult to do something underhandedly.

This is what I was thinking... The person must have sat by themself somewhere... also, as an ordinance worker my duties included participating in the endowment. My view of the patrons would have detected someone with a phone etc filming the session. They would have had to hold it up high enough, which I think would be in view of the worker. I don't see how it could be done, but apparently it was... my main concern is that someone would do it in the first place. I know the transcript has been online for a long time, but pictures are even more distrubing as to why... I believe the person doing this will have to answer. Apparently they don't.

I don't think temple staff should be in the business of enforcing, even if they saw someone filming (we all know there are button cameras and smaller, anyway). It is not temple staff who is charged with worthiness or non-worthiness. And physical removal is bound to put such staff in criminal law jeopardy. I think shutting down the season, or even the temple until all have cleared and then reopening makes a lot more sense --- the suspected offender would just not be allowed to re-enter.

As a temple worker, if while helping conduct an endowment session I saw someone filming, my instructions were to tell the brother in charge and stop the session. Security would be called... temple workers do not have the responsibility of "enforcing." There is trained security staff to handle any situation, and workers are to call them immediately.

edit to add... I just saw ERayR's post about the glasses capable of filming... that or something similar must be how it was done as a hand-held device would be visible to a worker and/or other patrons. Sad is right.

What is truly disgusting are the comments. People have no class. This makes me so angry and not very charitable toward these people. The guy who did this said he's going to do the initiatory next. I hope he gets caught before then. Why would you mock someone else's sacred beliefs like that no matter how much you disagree with them.

OK I probably shouldn't find this humorous but I'm having a real hard time imagining where someone is going to hide a camera during an initiatory session.

I believe he's said its a ring or watch camera.Brings new weight to Elder Scott suggesting watches not be worn in the Temple if so.

The only one that should be offended by this is God. If we are offended, maybe we need to work out some things with ourselves.

I think most people watching it will become bored quite rapidly. That will be the general effect.

The entire church endowment ceremony has now been posted on the web by someone who has a recommend and fllmed the ceremony in secret while he participated. What is interesting is that although faces have been blurred, they can still be recognizable, especially by those who were filmed. Could these people file a lawsuit against the person who did this? Also, can the church sue to have the video taken down? And why would someone do such filming?

I kinda of feel sorry for the guy who broke the trust that he was placed in. :sorry: But then, in these times when people seem to have ill intent everywhere, I should not be so surprised.

With all the clever gadgetry that is available nowadays, it was bound to happen sooner or later. You can buy a pen with a spy camera on it for a few dollars on eBay, with enough memory to record an hour long event.

I think that we should be offended because of how we humans are now acting. If we take a look at our society and how many people are behaving we should at least be questioning what is influencing our human nature to act this way. And for the exmormons who are celebrating the videoing, they also need to ask themselves why the celebration?

Believe it or not, the roots of this filming seem to be the secret vs, sacred discussion that occurred on this forum or some other forum that I can't mention because I have forgotten the forum that it was on.

You have to have nerves of steel to actually do it

Not if you are an apostate. Even if they found out, what could they do, except to politely escort you out?

Or not care. Either way the person will post his story for all to read. Most likely the person doesn't care because they don't believe in the church anymore. And if caught, what could happen to the person? Not much, if one doesn't care anyway.
