smac97 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Read this (http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/05/05/finally-a-spray-that-gets-you-instantly-drunk-for-just-a-few-seconds/)Sometimes, getting drunk is just too much work. Thank goodness someone has finally invented a product that allows you to sit back, spray some liquid into your mouth and bam! — instant drunken stupor.French American scientist David Edwards has unveiled WA|HH Quantum Sensations, a spray that causes brief intoxication with no aftereffects, Gizmodo reports. Each dose consists of just 0.075 milliliters of alcohol, but according to Edwards, when aerosolized by the spray’s unique mechanism — housed in a stylish, Philippe Starck-designed aluminum tube — it’s enough to make you feel fully intoxicated, though quite briefly. Once the effects wear off, you won’t experience a headache and can even pass an alcohol test. The product, which goes for about $26, will soon hit European shelves, but no word yet if an American release is in the works. Fingers crossed, though — just think of all the time you could save if you no longer had to slam back those pesky and time-consuming beers to get a buzz._________________Whaddya think? altersteve Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Kind of awesome either way. I'd definitely be tempted to try it.
thesometimesaint Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 It takes a lot of beers to get that drunk. As Far As the WoW. Don't know. There are mouthwashes with a higher concentrations of alcohol, but few would drink the stuff just for the buzz. But I don't see the point behind drinking to just get drunk to begin with.
Cobalt-70 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 I guess one relevant factor would be whether the spray can lead to alcoholism.
thesometimesaint Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 (edited) Cobalt-70:Probably not as the concentrations are very low. I think it would be against the intent of the law rather than the letter of the law itself. Edited May 17, 2012 by thesometimesaint
Popular Post Ron Beron Posted May 17, 2012 Popular Post Posted May 17, 2012 Great...another stupid way to achieve stupidity. 5
rpn Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 IF beer in an upscale bar is $7.50, how stupid would you have to be to put down$26 for the faux stuff?
katherine the great Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Great...another stupid way to achieve stupidity.Lol! Good one! I'm surprised Europeans would even consider this. It sounds like an American thing to me.

Messenger Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Is nitrous oxide against the word of wisdom? What about helium? "As leader of the munchkins,I hereby declare that all helium filled balloons belong to me"

Not sure if it violates the WoW but it certainly violates the commandment: "Thou shall not be and idiot."Seth
CV75 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 (edited) Whaddya think? Does this violate the Word of Wisdom? Discuss.Yes, because of what better thing(s) might you be introducing to and doing with your body, mind and spirit instead. By definition, "intoxication" (the physiological state produced by a poison or other toxic substance) is something the Lord would not want us to do. Edited May 18, 2012 by CV75
KevinG Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 In the rare book room of the UofI library I saw an epistle written to the Saints at the turn of the last century. It specifically addressed marijuana and the first presidency said in effect. Rationalizing that you can take drugs simply because they are not specifically named in the Word of Wisdom is stupid.
AddamS Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I'm not LDS, but have a lot of family and friends that are. Some of them have said they need to think about if this would break WoW rules. To be frank, I'm actually amazed that people who follow the WoW are even debating if this is permissible.Would it be different if the product was made with cocaine and got you loaded for a brief time by delivering a tiny amount of it?
Log Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I think this "debate" is actually tongue-in-cheek for the LDS. Sorry for not cluing you in.
AddamS Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 (edited) Maybe around here, but not at the card table we were discussing it at (friendly home game, not casino).Who knows, maybe the three out of six people I talked about this with were not typical. Edited May 18, 2012 by AddamS
Calm Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 (edited) I can see a useful purpose for this new form of alcohol. Take it to driving classes and give people a shot of it, put them behind the wheel of a car in a giant parking lot with old cars and film them driving drunk.Or some other demonstration of the loss of control that comes with drunkenness. If there are truly no side effects and it is short lived and the people already drink....I wouldn't give it to teens as I could see them being stupid enough to think it was just a big joke anyway. Messenger Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Over the years there has been a lot of conference talks about medications and drugs. I suppose my thoughts below are an amalgam of all the things I have read and heard when researching the subject over the last 2 years regarding Caffeine and Coffee. Mark's personal Word of Wisdom criteria:1) Never take anything that can be habit forming.2) Never take anything that can give you a loss of control.3) Never self-medicate.4) Never take anything that harms you more than helps you.I was going to give some references to the above, but (haha) the churches search engine is off, broken or just plain dead! See the pic below .....
