Romney was asked at a town hall meeting:

"We have a president right now that is operating outside the structure of our Constitution," the audience member said to applause. "And I want to know -- yeah, I do agree he should be tried for treason -- but I want to know what you would be able to do to restore balance between the three branches of government and what you are going to be able to do to restore our Constitution in this country."

His response:

"Well, as I'm sure you do, I happen to believe the Constitution was not just brilliant but probably inspired. I happen to believe the same thing about the Declaration of Independence," said Romney. "I would respect the different branches of government if I am fortunate enough to become president."

"I would reserve the right as president to put in place executive orders," Romney added. "I would put in place ... an executive order that grants a waiver from Obamacare to all 50 states."

So what do you think? Was the woman a Mormon plant? You can't really see her face.

At a town hall event in Ohio this afternoon, a woman asked Mitt Romney what he would do to roll back the size of government, and commented that President Obama “should be tried for treason.” She didn’t explain why Obama had committed treason — which is punishable by death. Her comments received a big round of applause from the audience.

Romney responded to her question, but didn’t condemn or acknowledge her comments on treason. Watch it:

While Romney can’t be held responsible for everything his supporters say, it seems reasonable to expect him to stand up to the fringe in his party, especially when he’s providing a platform for their views (it was his microphone, after all).

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) understood this. At a town hall event in October, 2008, McCain fielded a comment from a woman who said Obama “is an Arab.” “No ma’am,” McCain said, shaking his head and taking the microphone from her hand. “He’s a decent, family man, citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with,” he said, earning a mix of applause and boos.

This isn’t the first time Romney has let the fringe push him around. The Romney campaign muzzled, and then accepted the resignation of, former foreign policy adviser Ric Grennell, who had come under fire from social conservatives for being openly gay. “How is he going to stand up to Putin? How is he going to stand up to North Korea if he can be pushed around by a yokel like me?” asked the man who led the charge against Grennell, American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer.

Which is exactly what Santorum did when the woman at the gun range said to pretend the target was Obama.

Yes do watch it. The woman is almost giggling as see says it. It was a tongue in cheek remark, off the cuff in the heat of the moment. Romney had no reason to correct her or the person she was agreeing with for an understood smiley face/ off the cuff remark in the room.

Much ado about nothing!

1. There will be invidivual Latter Day Saints that I believe will help save and restore the Constitution and our nation, but Romney, I believe, will not be one of them.

2. There is another prophecy out there called the Mosiah Hancock Prophecy, that has never been proven as false, since it was written down unedited in Mosiah Hancock's diary, which was later preserved by BYU.

Perhaps the better question would be if the Mosiah Hancock Prophecy is truly legit, and whether Romney may play a role in it?

I have to say that the Mosiah Hancock Prophecy is very interesting. If only it could be traced to an earlier date, id think it might have more credibility. At this point i just dont know.

The Constitution hanging by a thread is found throughout the teachings of the Prophets and is only loosely connected with the White Horse Prophecy from what Ive seen. It's always been the "White Horse" part of the prophecy thats been criticized as ridiculous.

Interestingly enough, I was listening to Rush Limbaugh about a month ago and he was talking about the Constitution "hanging by a thread." I was rather floored by the comment. Because I know he isnt LDS nor, as far as I know, acquainted with the prophecy. Oddly enough he isnt the only non-member Ive heard use the phrase.

I dont know what that means. But I think it does lead me to believe the time of the prophecies fulfillment is coming soon.

I knew there was a reason my mom kept up her quilting skills she could probably make that thread stronger but she is a "filthy, socialist, anti-American" Democrat. She should probably also be tried for treason even though sh served two tours in Vietnam fixing up wounded soldiers.

As for to topic I predict that neither a democrat or republican will respect the constitution because both sides take orders from nutty extremists like Rush Limbaugh and Michael Moore. The only thing we can do is teach our children to love and respect our country, flaws and all. And yes I will proudly teach my children the great accomplishments of the democratic party and hope they will become lifelong democrats....even if that means others will call them foul names because "they know what is better"

Probably won't vote for Romney but even if he wins the constitution and most importantly centrists like myself will still be treated as an afterthought

That is harsh. One does not need to be a scholar or a lawyer to under either. I learned about it in 5th grade civics. The problem is no one is using it anymore....no one. Are you trying to get the thread shut down?

I am of the opinion that the biggest problem is fascism. The constitution is about individual rights. What makes it hang by a thread is the following ....

1) Two large political parties: They are now nearly identical on their platform

2) Corporations and political donations: They influence what we see and hear and limit our knowledge.

3) Media monopolies: Businesses that align their stories on political lines.

4) National welfare: Mandated taxes to aid others, rather than donations to help others.

5) The federal reserve: They print money, which causes inflation and leaving less money for ordinary people and more to those in the banking system.

6) The military machine: Where we used to have multiple aviation companies competing, we only have a few now. This causes loss of control when we try and cut spending. Anybody ever here of the F-35 Alternate Engine Program? We thought we cut that waste, but it is alive and well under a new obscure fuel savings program! Which only costs us taxpayers exactly what the alternate engine program costs.

Most people haven't awaken yet to the creeping problem of changing faces of fascism and the loss of individual rights because it has happened slowly over time. Like I said, I like Romney, but I don't see a significant platform of change back to constitutional rights or individual rights.

The younger generation (elders) will be the ones that recognize they have no future under the government format of spending. Its a lot like the housing market, because there is no way to sustain it. Sooner or later it has to change. There is only once current choice that I can see that is truly looking for liberty, and its not the two obvious choices.

It is unfortunate so many conflate "hanging by a thread" with the White Horse Prophecy. From the fair article cited previously (and it's been discussed on this board a fair number of times):

The U.S. Constitution to "hang by a thread?"

Occasionally heard among Church members are references to the Constitution "hanging by a thread' during the last days. This concept of the Constitution "hanging by a thread" has been improperly, and sometimes uniquely, associated with the White Horse prophecy. The implication is that the Constitution will be close to destruction and that the "White Horse" and the "Red Horse" will step in to save it. This is often misinterpreted to mean that a man on a white horse will step in to save the Constitution. ^[2] This was the reference that was often applied to Mitt Romney by his detractors during his run for the U.S. Presidency in 2008.

So what references have Church leaders made to the Constitution "hanging by a thread?"

Will the Constitution be destroyed? No: it will be held inviolate by this people; and, as Joseph Smith said, "The time will come when the destiny of the nation will hang upon a single thread. At that critical juncture, this people will step forth and save it from the threatened destruction." It will be so. It is said that brother Joseph in his lifetime declared that the Elders of this Church should step forth at a particular time when the Constitution should be in danger, and rescue it, and save it. This may be so; but I do not recollect that he said exactly so. I believe he said something like this—that the time would come when the Constitution and the country would be in danger of an overthrow; and said he, If the Constitution be saved at all, it will be by the Elders of this Church. I believe this is about the language, as nearly as I can recollect it. —Orson Hyde, "Self-Government, etc.", Journal of Discourses 6:152 (Jan. 3, 1858)

Brigham Young and Orson Hyde both clearly state that the Constitution will be in grave danger of being destroyed. If the constitution is to be preserved it will be because the "Elders" of the Church will step forward and provide the support that will help to preserve the Constitution. The Elders of the Church will always be in support of the constitution, and will not ever be in a position to replace or supplant the constitutional principles in that document. Note that this belief has nothing to do with the so-called "White Horse" prophecy, but in fact preceded the date claimed for that prophecy.

The concern for the Constitution of the United States of America is a real and valid concern of the authorities and membership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Because it was included as part of the White Horse does not give the White Horse any sort of credibility. It is an entirely separate concern.

As well you shouldnt since evidence says that the White Horse Prophecy is not valid.

But the prophecy that the Constitution will hang by a thread and that the Elders of Israel will save it, is. And merely because the white horse prophecy tried to incorporate the Constitution prophecy, doesnt mean that the Constitution prophecy is invalidated.

Oh, and sometimes in life we need to learn things we dont particularly care for. We are under commandment to learn and understand governments and to be involved in civics. You dont need to be a lawyer to do this.
