usually second session is callings and sustainings and typically the first session has been of late when they announce new Temples. Pres. Hinckley though seemed to scatter the announcements of new Temples

Ah okay. Good to know.

And wow, powerful talk by President Packer there. Enjoyed the fact that he got personal about some things with his family, I think it made the impact much stronger.

Nice little talk from Sister Esplin on fixing problems in family life -- really liked that she counseled against rewards/punishment methods of discipline. Pretty disappointed that Heavenly Mother didn't merit a mention from Brother Hallstrom, but the rest of his talk is hitting some good points.

Every time I hear that Pres. Kimball experience about not ever being to a boring sacrament meeting I think of this quotation from Elder McConkie

"On other occasions we have meetings where the speaker comes and all he brings is a little cup of eternal truth, and the members of the congregation come with a large jug, and all they get in their jugs is the little dribble that came from a man who should have known better and who should have prepared himself and talked from the revelations and spoken by the power of the Holy Spirit."

I think it means if one is called to speak in Conference, one will have to work it out with fear and trembling.

could that apply to other meetings as well? We have a man in our stake who knows better but he gives talks that he plagiarizes and hopes we don't know

That linereally struck me. It made me laugh a little at first, but really made me sit back and think now.

Great first session overall I think. I loved Elder Hallstrom and President Eyring's talks, even enjoyed President Packer's, which I don't always.

I suppose that depends on what you mean by plagarism. For example, I have called many to speak and many of course fear to do so. My counsel to them has been to do what the Savior did when he taught in the synagogues; open the scriptures. And of course I add to that whatever official publications they feel inclined to use. Of course one should give proper attribution.

Many of those talks are somewhat staid because it's obvious they are using someone else's talk, but for many it's the beginning of finding out what giving a talk is all about. If they hadn't had something to cling to the first few times, they'd stil be hiding in the pews.

oh, this fellow reads talks that were given by others at BYU devotionals, general Conference,etc and he doesn't say where he got them and passes them off as his own but people know that they are not his

My thought when I heard that was, "Some of us need to be sand blasted ... then polished!"
