mfbukowski Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 And of course we have this interesting fact: Prices Before 10/11 At the Door Individual $39.00 $50.00 Couple $49.00 $60.00 Student (18 & Under) $19.00 $25.00 Pastor/Spouse $19.00 $25.00 That man is just pure devotion to his cause, isn't he?
mfbukowski Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 (edited) This explains why Rob said..."I am leaving on a trip out of state, after which I will have another such trip. That makes it unlikely I will be able to post much if at all during the next couple of weeks."...on the now closed Theosis thread. And now we have direct evidence of what he will do with the contents of that Theosis thread:Rob Bowman — ―Can a Man Become God? Understanding the Mormon Doctrine of ExaltationDo we need more evidence of what we have been saying all along?? WAKE UP PEOPLE! He uses what he learns here against us, to refine his arguments.Direct evidence of that- right there!http://www.compassio...011/program.pdf Edited October 11, 2011 by mfbukowski
Calm Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 (edited) I am not sure I saw much "refinement" of his arguments, but certainly I would not be surprised to see that he had used his time here to collect more 'ammo' so to speak. It is sad to see so much time and effort wasted in attacking someone else's belief rather than simply using it to proclaim the Gospel. Bill “Papa” Lee Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 (edited) In the past couple weeks I've read her getting into some tifs with some solid Evangelical posters over there like Markkkk and Matureo. Then she started accusing them of being Mormons. LOLJust because they were calling her out on her bigotry, and telling her to tone down her rhetoric. Which obviosly be default makes them Mormons, because they were unwilling to attack us so brazenly as she does. Both received warnings for interfering with Christian proselyte-“ing”, as did a poster here. This type of bigotry is considered Christian proselyte-“ing”. Being a paying customer she turns them in and they get points toward banning. So keeping with the main OP, calling others stupid or cults is considered proselyte-“ing”, as well as making false accusations. This is what is expected by many to be “Compassionate Boldness” as you can see from my sig line which I will copy and add, this is the attitude of many. There is no such thing as "Christian Tolerance"! Bill “Papa” Lee Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 I've been told I'm going to hell by more than one compassionate Evangelical. My favorite was my wifes old friend who started screaming at her in public, pointing to her pregnant belly and yelling that she was "carrying the spawn of Satan".I used to try to reason with these people posessed of a certain spirit. In my more cantankerous middle age I'm more tempted to drop trou and turn the other cheek towards them.If someone did this to my wife and speaking of my child it would have been a bad day for us both. I am so sorry this happened.
Bill “Papa” Lee Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 I noted this also, and was about to post on it here, but I see it has already been noticed. We really need to fully understand what this guy is all about, and stop helping him.I have warned of what he is doing before, here is one fellow and at CRI he is another. He uses what anyone says to seek to assign all that we say to Mormon Doctrine and calls others extremists. He is no friend to LDS and uses our comments as red meat for those who support CRI.
Storm Rider Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 And of course we have this interesting fact:That man is just pure devotion to his cause, isn't he?I don't think it is hard to understand. Rob is an EV and anti-Mormon first. That is is raison d'etre for living. A distant, we are talking miles and miles, second he is a Christian. HOWEVER, when people starting spouting their Christian faith I tend to stop listening and begin to observe their actions. IF their actions and their mouth coincide then I understand that someone is real. Too often the mouth and their actions conflict. I admit that judging his position from just his writing is problematic. It is possible that in real life he would act differently to a LDS neighbor, but the work he does is not inspired by the Holy Spirit. There is a decidedly darker influence at play. Each of us can be so easily mislead by the evil one; we think we might be doing something good and yet we are serving the wrong master. Thankfully, each of us can wake up and see by our actions that we are not following the Holy Spirit. One day he will hopefully feel inspired to follow Christ more closely in both word and deed. We are all sinners and fall far short of our Master. May we all be able to witness by our actions that we are his disciples.
Silver Girl Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 (edited) Don't we LDS boldly state as fact that we are the only true Church? Do we not state that the gospel was restored through JS implying that the rest are in a state of apostasy? Didn't Jesus in Matthew 10 say:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.?Yes, we LDS do proclaim the truth boldly...But, I for one do not "proclaim truth boldy" by screaming into a megaphone at people who are just trying to cross the street to attend Conference... I have never proclaimed truth by wearing a "Satan" mask, chasing people around and telling them that their children are going to burn in Hell... I have never proclaimed truth by calling their Church leaders liars, decievers and seducers... I have never called a woman a wh*** in front of her little children... I have never proclaimed truth by taking something which they consider sacred, and pretending to wipe myself with it... I have not, and would not proclaim truth by screaming at the funeral procession of their late leaders...I chose to proclaim truth with real Compassionate Boldness, and I didn't even need to take a class to know it is not okay to be cruel...Just my .02...Silver Girl Edited October 11, 2011 by Silver Girl 3

KevinG Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 If someone did this to my wife and speaking of my child it would have been a bad day for us both. I am so sorry this happened. We were young and it caught us by surprise. I'm older, crankier and have more insurance now. The problem originated with an Evangelical non-denominational church in our home town that hosted every anti-Mormon speaker that passed through town (inlcuding using Decker's material for their curricula). Another neighbor from that church told my wife she really liked her and it was too bad she was a Mormon. My wifes response was to tell her "that's like saying I really like you its too bad you are black." She never heard another complaint from this woman. In fact she came to my wife for parenting and marriage advice.I really think a lot of the anti-Mormon bigotry is designed to get people to fear us and avoid contact with us. Poisoning the well on a large scale.

And like the LDS church, I don't think other churches condemn Mormons to hell either. I am only commentng that there are some in every religion that it seems to be their mission in life to condemn others to hell. They seem to alsely feel their own salvation is tied to how zealous they are at condemning others.

If you think about it, Rob's semantic nit picking and repelling pedantics, and the anti-Mormonism of those like him, are no real match for the Spirit and the appealing beauty of the restored gospel of Christ. We LDS aren't the one's who need to be concerned or afraid. They are. To me, that is what is really driving Rob's participation here and at the BC conference. First impressions to the contrary notwithstanding, I believe Rob is fighting desperately to retain his faith and the faith of his fellow Evangelicals, and this in the face of compelling powers and ideas of Christ's Church. It is kind of like the kids in school who act all cocky and self-assured to mask their heightened insecurity. They really are out-matched in an unfair fight, so compassion moves me to say let him and they refine and not-pick away. Thanks, -Wade Englund-

wenglund Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I'll have to think about that one. I don't see droves of Evangelicals coming into the church yet.IThat may be because most Evangelicals are busy living their religion and admirably growing in their own faith. I wasn't speaking so much about them, but rather those insecure souls who feel the need to set up ministries against Christ's Church, instead of devoting their energies to declaring what they believe. Thanks, -Wade Englund-
california boy Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 The question always often to myself and others…Q... (Galatians 4: 16) 16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?A…No, but for stating you opinion as fact? But why do assume that it makes you my enemy? It happened this weekend in a more public setting that would not allow discussion to go forward because of politics. What allows this type of public attitude to flourish; is what will be happening yet again in “SLC” next weekend.http://www.compassionateboldness.com/Have any of you ever been to one of these? It is where our detractors are taught how to attack our Faith with “Boldness”, but doing so by calling it “Compassionate Boldness”.Where does descent manners come in?Now back to the threat. What is it about this statement or conference that you could not flip around and have it be a conference talk about engaging your neighbors in the gospel of Jesus Christ?Christians who live in Utah and other communities with a significant Mormon population often want to speak to their Latter-day Saint neighbors about issues of eternal significance, yet many are not sure how to approach them about these sensitive topics. The Compassionate Boldness Conference will give you the opportunity to meet and learn from a variety of speakers who are experienced in actively engaging the Mormon people. Come and hear what God is doing in Utah. Discover what the Bible has to say to our Mormon neighbors, and what it has to say to us about compassion and boldness.
KevinG Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 What is it about this statement or conference that you could not flip around and have it be a conference talk about engaging your neighbors in the gospel of Jesus Christ?Mormons who live in Georgia and other communities with a significant Evangelical population often want to speak to their Baptist neighbors about issues of eternal significance, yet many are not sure how to approach them about these sensitive topics. The Compassionate Boldness Conference will give you the opportunity to meet and learn from a variety of speakers who are experienced in actively engaging the Baptist people. Come and hear what God is doing in Georgia. Discover what revelation has to say to our Baptist neighbors, and what it has to say to us about compassion and boldness. Not too terrible...Now consider this:Cost of the seminar is $30 per sesson.Speakers include fifth and sixth generation Baptists who left the Evangelical tradition and received God's truth in Mormonism.Authors publications include "The Protestant Puzzle and the Maze of Methodism"...Oh yeah. We don't do that.

KevinG Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 (edited) So is it only the cost and who is putting on the semianr that Mormons are at odds with? No. The fact that anti-Mormonism is also a revenue generating activity is just icing on the cow patty cake.I have to say I have attended firesides where an ex-priest and an ex-nun spoke about their conversion to Mormonism. There just wasn't any charge.I don't equate someone giving a fireside on their conversion to their chosen religion to a conference on how to convert someone away from their chosen religion. I have taught many lessons that included my conversion story. I just never felt the need to "save someone from the Methodists".Unless the fireside had breakout sessions on "the dangers of Catholicism" or how the "Catholic notion of God is false therefore Catholics aren't really saved" then this comparison is insulting and inaccurate.I've also never wasted time trolling Evangelical web sites to build a case against the Baptists. My faith and the message I have to share is strong enough to stand on its own merits without being officially opposed to someone elses beliefs. That there are differences in beliefs of those I share with is given - but I don't hang out with ex-Methodists and trash their beliefs in the name of compassion. (I hang out with current Methodists, honor them and call them my family). Edited October 12, 2011 by DaddyG
KevinG Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Another point about this conference... given the materials and activities these groups have produced the title of the conference and the stated purpose seems a little politically correct to me. Given their history I would not be surprised to see more of the same counter cult spiritual porn.
