noel00 Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 http://johnwmorehead.blogspot.com/2011/01/astrotheology-of-extraterrestrial-life.htmlOver on Moreheads Musings, he has references to papers and talks about "Are Aliens part of God's plan to"?Theologian Ted Peters gives an interesting talk on the issue. If these aliens were created in the image of their God, what would they look like? Were they created by same God refered to by LDS as their Heavenly Father? So ET would look nothing like that in movie that the kids interacted with. People allegedly captured by Aliens always draw pictures that are nothing like us.Mormon thinking would be more comfortable with the idea of aliens. Interesting times.

The Nehor Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 If these aliens were created in the image of their God, what would they look like?No idea. Were they created by same God refered to by LDS as their Heavenly Father?Almost certainly but nor sure why that would mean they would appear as we do.So ET would look nothing like that in movie that the kids interacted with. People allegedly captured by Aliens always draw pictures that are nothing like us.I doubt those accounts are credible.Mormon thinking would be more comfortable with the idea of aliens. Interesting times.Yeah, I'm comfortable with it but I'm guessing we are under quarantine until the Millenium (at least) except for those specifically trying to aid the earth to that point.

Interesting times. The aliens come from within the hollow earth and will teach us of the gentle nature of their bioluminescent sun which organism is about to poop on the exterior of the planet causing it to increase its speed of rotation such that the new day will be 16 hours in length.. 1
altersteve Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Were they created by same God refered to by LDS as their Heavenly Father?Yes. There are no other gods of other worlds in LDS doctrine. Heavenly Father is the Creator of all of them.
BookofMormonLuvr Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 I tend to agree with this site about the origins of "aliens"...http://www.echoesofenoch.com/I believe it is a deception of satan and will play a role in the events of the last days.

rpn Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 There are plenty of different styles among the humans we already know on earth, so some differences should be expected when we get visitors from space.
Cobalt-70 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 In Mormon theology, God is an alien, though a very advanced one. 2
altersteve Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 In Mormon theology, God is an alien, though a very advanced one.No He's not.
diglot Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Mormon thinking would be more comfortable with the idea of aliens. Interesting times.Aliens! A question I have often pondered. As a mainstream evangelical, I am very comfortable with the idea of aliens. Heck, I half expect the universe to be teeming with life.If we do discover life, it will lead to a Copernican revolution in theology. I only hope I am alive if this discovery happens!
Cobalt-70 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 No He's not.And Joseph Smith's First Vision was, technically speaking, a "close encounter of the third kind." God, according to Mormon theology, was born on an alien planet, and now he periodically travels between whatever planet he lives on (near Kolob) and earth. How is God not an alien?
Calm Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 (edited) In Mormon theology, God is an alien, though a very advanced one.God is of the human species, or rather man is of the same species as God. Unless one is using "alien" in the same way one refers to a Canadian as an alien in the US and an American as an alien in Canada, God is not an alien...and from the OP it would seem he is not using it that way. Also, I don't see how the one who actually created the world, who in essence owns it, who knows every last particle of it that exists better than anyone else can really be called an alien even in the sense of being a stranger or not belonging. KevinG Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I theorize we are aliens and that after the expulsion from Eden (wher broccoli tasted like cotton candy and chocolate chip cookies were a health food) we were transported to this earth and punished with boiled spinach. It is a sin in other creations to barnstorm the earth in spaceships and frighten earth dwelling mortals. This doesn't prevent alien teenagers from pulling up behind pick-up trucks in the desert and flashing the occupants with null-grav devices. This occassionally results in a tragic case of lost space teenagers due to wrecks in places like New Mexico.
KevinG Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 ...or were you talking about people who overstayed their green cards? They are still covered by Christ's atonement IIRC.
Rob Osborn Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Not sure about the whole alien salvation thing but...UFO's are real- absolutely no doubt about that mystery anymore!
blackstrap Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Not sure about the whole alien salvation thing but...UFO's are real- absolutely no doubt about that mystery anymore! It is possible that they are already saved. An anecdote from Mexico. During my mission there were stories of an elder who was much older than 19 ie. 60ish.He was one of the first to work in Mexico on a previous mission. .He told the story of being taken in a flying vehicle by a heavenly personage out past a rural farm where he was told to visit Bro. X .The details are fuzzy now after many years but he did say it was some kind of conveyance that flew over the countryside. As far as God being an alien,if alien is defined as from outside earth's zipcode, then yes He is alien. If alien is defined as not of our species, then no He is not.
Maidservant Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Maybe "alien" doesn't conjure up the best images to describe God.However, from time to time I have heard a person opine that if only extra-terrestrials from an advanced society would just come to earth and provide us with all the information we needed to have a peaceful and prosperous earth. I want to jump up and down and scream, "They already HAVE!! "
The Nehor Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I wouldn't define God as alien because He created the world. The word "alien" doesn't seem to fit in that context. If someone arrived in a barren wasteland and then built and founded a city and then watched its progress from another land I don't think we'd call the founder alien in that city.
DarkScythe Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Regardless of what they look like but I do think God has other plans for them. Maybe other religion more suited for their needs of salvation.
KevinG Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Could it be that our concept of extra-terrestrail beings is somewhat provincial? For example the Hopi prophecies of wheeled vehicles with voices inside was a pretty good description of automobiles hundreds of years in advance if not a bit awkward description of the 2011 Escalade.Could our reports of heavenly conveyance (flaming chariots, flying saucers, etc.) be just as awkward in describing celestial technology? In the end it really doesn't impact my relationship and covenants with Christ if there are or are not "aliens".
BCSpace Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 If these aliens were created in the image of their God, what would they look like? Were they created by same God refered to by LDS as their Heavenly Father?I think one could have a Star Trek like variety of humanoids and they could all fit under the definition of "image" in this case. 1

Nathair/|\ Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I have heard it suggested that modern alien encounter tales follow the same pattern as ancient faerie encounter tales. Make of that what ye will.
Cobalt-70 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 God is of the human species, or rather man is of the same species as God. Do we know that for sure? If you believe that the Mormon God impregnated Mary, and that half of Jesus' DNA is from the Father, then obviously, the Father is genetically similar. But that doesn't necessarily mean he is of the same species. What if God is a Neanderthal? Neanderthals could reproduce with humans too. If Jesus was half Neanderthal, people probably wouldn't even have noticed.
