Nathair/|\ Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Do we know that for sure? If you believe that the Mormon God impregnated Mary, and that half of Jesus' DNA is from the Father, then obviously, the Father is genetically similar. But that doesn't necessarily mean he is of the same species. What if God is a Neanderthal? Neanderthals could reproduce with humans too. If Jesus was half Neanderthal, people probably wouldn't even have noticed. If two animals can produce offspring that can then reproduce, they are of the same species. I'm not sure how it works for other kingdoms.
altersteve Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 And Joseph Smith's First Vision was, technically speaking, a "close encounter of the third kind." God, according to Mormon theology, was born on an alien planet, and now he periodically travels between whatever planet he lives on (near Kolob) and earth. How is God not an alien?God passed through mortality on a planet much like this one in order to obtain His physical body. I don't believe He lives on a planet. You sound like Ed Decker when you talk like this.

(No, he is not Mormon or anything else related and he is slightly schizophrenic).
Cobalt-70 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 If two animals can produce offspring that can then reproduce, they are of the same species. I'm not sure how it works for other kingdoms. That's not always the case. Neanderthals could (and did) reproduce with humans, but they are of a different species. Other closely-related species can interbreed as well.

You sound like Ed Decker when you talk like this.Joseph Smith's theology implies that resurrected beings live on planets, with actual mansions and streets that appear to be paved with gold. Gods are material beings, so they presumably have mass; so if they are merely floating in space, they would be weightless, and robes would not be a practical style of clothing.
JeremyOrbe-Smith Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 (edited) This was a fun (if, uh, weird) thread: Joseph Smith on Ancient Aliens Edited October 5, 2011 by JeremyOrbe-Smith

Gods are material beings, so they presumably have mass; so if they are merely floating in space, they would be weightless, and robes would not be a practical style of clothing.I don't think it "implies that resurrected beings live on planets" at all. We do know that the celestial kingdom will be on earth, and I personally believe that God does not live within this universe.
DarkScythe Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 all 3 kingdoms are in a different universe on the same planet. also Ancient Aliens comment on Joseph Smith is interesting but it is bantha poodoo.
DarkScythe Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Think bigger... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyLTfs-wJQInice post me likely.
Gillebre Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 think The Knowing, with Nicholas Cage. good movie.I would define an alien (extra terrestrial) as a being who is not native to this planet. God is not. Therefore, as I define alien, He fits that category.there is nothing wrong with that. He is our Father. I would imagine that if we encountered beings native to other worlds, they would be human as well. That is the work the family of the Gods is engaged in: to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. God has many children, and He has supplied worlds without number for this work for His children to go forth. 1
Jesterss Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 (edited) If two animals can produce offspring that can then reproduce, they are of the same species. Neanderthals could (and did) reproduce with humans, but they are of a different species. Other closely-related species can interbreed as well.Correct.. There is such a thing as reproductive isolation but it does not set the standard for differentiation between species... the most common example is a horse and a donkey able to create a hybrid mule, and most of the time it is sterile, but that's not always the case... wolves and dogs create reproductive offspring.. lions and tigers... etc...Asian and African Elephants can actually breed, which is inter-genus, even harder than inter-species mating.. Zakuska Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I was informed on Ancient Aliens last night (Now im recording it on dvr because I like the mad scientists guy with the weird hair) that George Washington is said to have had Alien encounters and discribed having a "vision" like Joseph Smith. And then there was the White House flyby back in the 40s?
KevinG Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Asian and African Elephants can actually breed, which is inter-genus, even harder than inter-species mating..When Elephants of any species try to breed I am not inclined to argue with them. 1
Jesterss Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 When Elephants of any species try to breed I am not inclined to argue with them.haha, yeah that probably wouldn't go very well for anyone who tried...

If we arent native to this planet then its aliens who are actually being saved by another alien.
Bernard Gui Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 (edited) I find the depictions I have seen remarkably humanoid.Really?Bernard Edited October 6, 2011 by Bernard Gui
shalamabobbi Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 I was informed on Ancient Aliens last night ... that George Washington ... described having a "vision" like Joseph Smith.http://www.snopes.com/history/american/vision.asp
Jesterss Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Really?Bernardhaha, great episode.. trouble with gerbils, they just eat and reproduce!!
ERayR Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 haha, great episode.. trouble with gerbils, they just eat and reproduce!!I believe that episode was called "The Trouble with Tribbles".
ERayR Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Really?BernardI thought it was a given that we were not speaking of entertainment depictions but rather the alien contact reports. I am sorry that I didn't make it clear that I was in the serious section and didn't realize you were in the comic book section.
Jesterss Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 I believe that episode was called "The Trouble with Tribbles".Yeah my bad, lol, tribbles..
K-2 Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Yes. There are no other gods of other worlds in LDS doctrine. Heavenly Father is the Creator of all of them.God passed through mortality on a planet much like this one in order to obtain His physical body. I don't believe He lives on a planet. You sound like Ed Decker when you talk like this.Sorry but I'm a little confused by the two posts above -- they seem to contradict each other. The first says there are no other gods, and the second says that God passed through mortality. If there are no other gods, then who was in charge when God was in mortality? Are you meaning to say that there are no other gods within our universe but our Heavenly Father, and that he went through mortality in another universe? The simple statement that "There are no other gods of other worlds in LDS doctrine," with no other qualifications, doesn't sound right to me. It doesn't represent my beliefs anyway, and I am LDS.
Bill “Papa” Lee Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 And Joseph Smith's First Vision was, technically speaking, a "close encounter of the third kind." thesometimesaint Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 .K-2:I think we're getting into pure conjecture here.Whether there is or is not other Gods there is only one God to us. 1 Corinthians 8:5-6 New International Version 5For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”), 6yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live
