Daniel Peterson Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 This week's calculated affront to all that is good, kind, and decent:http://www.deseretnews.com/article/765593928/Religions-have-unique-ways-of-looking-at-human-souls.html

Daniel Peterson Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 For the first time, Peterson extends his war against everybody to a hateful attack on music, youth, idealism, and popular culture:http://www.deseretnews.com/article/765597245/John-Lennon-was-wrong-but-right-at-the-same-time.html
Libs Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 I'm pretty sure John Lennon was not an atheist. The song makes sense from an eastern perspective (Buddhism, Hinduism), where the belief is that there is only "now"..and we are all one...all connected, spiritually.Agree with you about the closing ceremonies...not great.
Peppermint Patty Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 I enjoyed the article. I did disagree with Mr. Peterson’s statement that Lennon rejected heaven, and Mr. Peterson’s implication that Lennon was an atheist. Libs is correct about John Lennon, he was not an atheist. Lennon said shortly before his death:People got the image I was anti-Christ or antireligion, I’m not at all. I’m a most religious fellow. I’m religious in the sense of admitting there is more to it than meets the eye. I’m certainly not an atheist.Surprisingly, Lennon was also was a staunch critic of evolution. Shortly before his death he also stated:Nor do I think we came from monkeys, by the way. That’s another piece of garbage. What the hell’s it based on? We couldn’t have come from anything — fish, maybe, but not monkeys. I don’t believe in the evolution of fish to monkeys to men. Why aren’t monkeys changing into men now? It’s absolute garbage. It’s absolutely irrational garbage, as mad as the ones who believe the world was made only four thousand years ago, the fundamentalists. That and the monkey thing are both as insane as the apes standing up suddenly.Further, John Lennon raised his children with, and instilled them with Zen Buddhist teachings. Finally, all one has to do to dispel the myth that Lennon was an atheist , is listen to Lennon's song "Out of the Blue" where he thanks God for blessing his life with many good people and experiences.John Lennon was much misunderstood and maligned in life, let's not do the same to him in death. Classifying Lennon as an atheist based upon the song "Imagine" is analogous to classifying Shakespeare as a hate filled, revenge seeking, violent, war monger for writing "Titus Andronicus".
Calm Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 I got the impression myself he was just referring to the song as an "atheistic anthem", not to Lennon as an atheist.
Daniel Peterson Posted August 18, 2012 Author Posted August 18, 2012 Thanks, calmoriah. I liked Lennon. I think he was a bit confused, but I wasn't trying to pigeonhole him.
Kenngo1969 Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Wow, that was so hateful, it posted twice! ...My thoughts exactly! (Sometimes it's difficult to confine so much hatred and vengefulness into just a single post! )

That was quite some time ago, so I'm eagerly awaiting the volume's advent; It can't be long, now. P.S.: Of course, if it's considered in any way apologetic in nature and was slated for publication by the Maxwell Institute, perhaps I ought not hold my breath!

Daniel Peterson Posted August 23, 2012 Author Posted August 23, 2012 Not content with drenching living people in his hateful bile, Peterson turns to the long-dead Philo of Alexandria in order to spew vengeful, psychotic rage all over one of the relatively unsung titans of Jewish thought:http://www.deseretnews.com/article/765598652/Christianity-influenced-much-by-unknown-theologian-Philo.html
