Mike Reed Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I have a book that describes a method of psychic self defense involving the consumption and digestion of the hostile spirit entity. Would one be able to do this and still qualify for a temple recommend?IIRC... the WoW instruction regarding the eating spirits is that such should done sparingly, otherwise generally being reserved for times of winter or famine. Be careful though, to be sure that the spirit you eat is not a good one (see D&C 129 and 1 John 4: 1-6).

D&C doesn't mention this, but it is very important: You can't eat a spirit unless you eat a "power-pellet" first. Otherwise, you'll die.
BCSpace Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Would consuming demons be against the Word of Wisdom?I would say so....
Calm Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I suspect it depends at least in part on whether or not they are habit forming.
mfbukowski Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 But they're so tasty. That's why I'm an animal lover.
pcarthew Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I have a book that describes a method of psychic self defense involving the consumption and digestion of the hostile spirit entity. Would one be able to do this and still qualify for a temple recommend?I ate a demon once and I have never been the same
Joseph Antley Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 In all metaphysical seriousness, what's the purpose of eating a demon?
Tsuzuki Posted May 2, 2009 Author Posted May 2, 2009 In all metaphysical seriousness, what's the purpose of eating a demon?Self defense... or hunger.
cjcampbell Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 In all seriousness, I think you have to answer the question, "What is a demon?" If a demon is actually one of our spirit brothers or sisters who lost his first estate by rebelling against God, then eating one of them would be cannibalism, if not outright impossible.
DH Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I have a book that describes a method of psychic self defense involving the consumption and digestion of the hostile spirit entity. Would one be able to do this and still qualify for a temple recommend? As long as you're earth-friendly and use what, er, comes out the "other end" as fertilizer!
talisyn Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I have a book that describes a method of psychic self defense involving the consumption and digestion of the hostile spirit entity. Would one be able to do this and still qualify for a temple recommend?Only if you don't drink a beer after.
Manny Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I think if you are consuming demons that the Word of Wisdom is the least of your worries. However, I find no mention of demons in the 89th section of the Doctrine and Covenants.Personally, I think consuming demons is an excellent way to become possessed by those demons. It doesn't mention cocaine either cjc.
John Larsen Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 In all metaphysical seriousness, what's the purpose of eating a demon?I've found my new siggy!
annewandering Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I cant quite figure out why you would want to eat or have anything to do with a demon in the first place. If you had one residing in you then you couldnt go to the temple. No unclean thing etc. Sounds just downright icky. blah.
mfbukowski Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I've found my new siggy! I know I've had a few shoved down my throat, but I've never eaten one voluntarily. Speaking with metaphysical seriousness of course.
Tsuzuki Posted May 3, 2009 Author Posted May 3, 2009 In all seriousness, I think you have to answer the question, "What is a demon?" If a demon is actually one of our spirit brothers or sisters who lost his first estate by rebelling against God, then eating one of them would be cannibalism, if not outright impossible. They're included in the larger subset of "spirit entities", as are animal spirits, artificial spirit entities, and the righteous departed. Though it might be hard to get that last set to attack you, for the trick to work.
Bernard Gui Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 They're included in the larger subset of "spirit entities", as are animal spirits, artificial spirit entities, and the righteous departed. Though it might be hard to get that last set to attack you, for the trick to work.I ate a demon once in a Mexican restaurant in Espanola, New Mexico. Later that evening I felt it painfully windingits way through every bend of my intestinal track, large and small. I didn't know they were so very, very long. The next day it exited in a blaze of fire and smoke. Oh, the burn!Bernard
wenglund Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 I understand that demons are chalk full of trans-fats and carcinogens, so at the very least they ought to carry the Sermon Generals warning. Thanks, -Wade Englund-
Helmuth Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 They're included in the larger subset of "spirit entities", as are animal spirits, artificial spirit entities, and the righteous departed. Though it might be hard to get that last set to attack you, for the trick to work. But Tsuzuki, you list here what they are not, but not what they are! They're a spirit entity; we knew that. How does the idea of demons fit in with LDS theology? Does it?
Joseph Antley Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 This thread has been entertaining. :-)Ah, I'd forgotten about this thread....
Helmuth Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 What happens to the demon after it is consumed? Does it go to demon heaven?Or does it have to "re-spawn" (ala video games), hopefully at some different location far away from yourself? Does it lose all its hit points, items, gold, and mad skillz in the process? Wouldn't that demon be likely to come take revenge on you, especially if he were about to level up or complete a quest when you ruined everything?
