Mocking you would be superfluous.

P.S. And kudos to T-Shirt for that lesson in Church history. I read it, though it is obvious Russ did not.

lol, Consiglieri.

I wonder if I might ask if you notice that eating meat outside winter or famine is displeasing to God...according to the D&C?

Anyone?

Did you have B-B-Q this past summer?

Was it a sin to do so?

I would be embarrassed for you if I could but I have discovered I truly enjoy your shame. This is something I must work on but you and others like you have helped me to develop a very real bigotry towards evangelicals - yes all. Sadly any good ones have been tainted by the likes of you, Paul and Bob. So, in the meantime I will sit back and continue to enjoy the show while it lasts.

After reading this thread for 14 repititive pages, I suggest that it be pinned, closed and periodically bumped by the mods as an example of the dogmatic singlemindedness of the contramormon mindset. Then everybody can tag Russ as ignored and not give him the excuse to boast of being banned by those nasty mods on the MA&D board. Or the spambusters can delete all his posts as spam.

My wife just cooked up some maahhvellouss baked potatoes and boiled corn while I stepped outside to grill a couple of perfect medium well New York strips. I got lucky that they came out perfect. Mmmm, mmm, goooooddd!! Dang, that was one good steak. But I got to thunkin'...

D&C 89 states meat should only be used in times of famine or winter.

But our Bibles tells us that meat is okay any time of year. All things in moderation.

This section of the D&C just doesn't align with our Bibles.

Which one should I believe? The D&C or my Bible?

Gotta go with the Bible...again.

:P<_<

Zzzzzzzzzz

Must be desperate

You know I can think of a thousand things that are far more displeasing to God than how often we eat our meat. For example, mayonnaise or a really bad Kraft Singles obsession, or possibly smoking dope(every good herb of the field, eh?), or watching football, or just about anything Americans partake in on a daily basis.

My complaints are thus:

1) The author of the D&C has imposed an un-biblical, unneccesary, legalistic, alleged commandment from the LORD upon us as people. God never said, "Don't have meat in summer." But the D&C tells us that God DID say that. It's sin to attribute a commandment of man to God.

Amen that it is a sin to attribute a commandment of man to God. Just as it would be to attribute a doctrine of men to God, as per the doctrine of the Trinity (which is my particular complaint, but we're not talking about that here, so...) Anyway, as has been demonstrated before, and as you have conveniently ignored it, the verse in question was not originally inflicted with a comma between "used" and "only", which, if the comma is removed, changes the meaning of the verse to say that meat should not only be used during winter and famine, in other words, the opposite of a prohibition. The word "sparingly" as it was used at the time the verse was written did not mean "hardly ever," it meant "not to excess". And verse 12 states quite clearly that God gave men to eat flesh of animals (in another place in D&C it condemns those who forbid the eating of meat, but of course that is to be ignored, too).

12 Yea, flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly;

13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine.

(Doctrine and Covenants | Section 89:12 - 13)

You choose to ignore this, or set it aside, and that's your prerogative.

2) You've been lied to. And you bought it. That bothers me. It's like taking your car to the mechanic and he tells you that you need a $2,500 transmission replacement when all you really needed was to have your transmission fluid changed.

And how about taking your car to the shop and they tell you your brakes are fine, and ten miles down the road they fail catestrophically, sending you at full speed into crossing pedestrians. The door swings both ways.

Forget the Trinity, what gets my bees in a bonnet about Christian doctrine is the false doctrine of the Rapture. Anybody who reguards the Rapture as correct doctrine, but says Joseph Smith was lied to by the devil is a hypocrite because an "angel of light" is exactly how the Rapture came to be. And of course if Satan inspired both religions, then the truth is in neither.

Russ,

The fact that the WoW may or may not be unecessary, legalistic, or a commandment is worth discussing. However I am interested in how exactly you intend to prove that it is un-biblical. You have also suggested that it contradicts the bible somewhere in this thread.

How, might I ask, is it unbiblical? What exactly does it mean for something to be unbiblical? Is it unbiblical only because an equivalent command or counsel is not found in the bible? D

How, might I ask, does it contradict the bible? Is there a specific passage in the bible that teaches that meat should be eaten all times of the year, and in great quantities?

If your point is that Joseph Smith taught something that isn't found in the bible, we don't care. That is what we would expect a Prophet to do.

If your point is that Joseph Smith taught something that is specifically contradicted by a passage in the bible, then please for the love of all things meat show us where it is.

Im reposting this again because Russ ignored it again.

Since we're reposting stuff, I thought I'd repost this along with an explanatory comment on it:

Tuesday July 22, 1834

We passed through Greencastle, and Joseph [smith] here directed us to get a supply of dried codfish. He said fish was much healthier for us to eat than meat, and the use of fish in warm weather was not prohibited in the word of wisdom.

--History of George A. Smith 1817-1847, Emily Smith Stewart Collection, Western Americana, University of Utah Library.

To me, this indicates that Joseph Smith viewed the Word of Wisdom as prohibiting meat in warm weather.

edit: Or at least the flesh of beasts and fowls of the air, if not non-flying fowls like chickens and turkeys.

No, but I take comfort in the knowledge that your God is so merciful he will have me personally on His B-B-Q for an eternal summer in hell.

Now, why is it you insist on asking questions that only demonstrate you lied when you said you had read T-Shirt's response?

The ribs we had the night before last were pretty good! I cooked some in the crockpot with some KFC Masterpiece BBQ sauce and then my friend came over and made some of her homemade sauce with ketchup, soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, and something called "Oriental 5 spice" or something like that. Then we put that on some more ribs and we cooked them in the oven. She said her dad used to make BBQ sauce with a bottle of Worchestershire sauce and a frozen can of concentrated orange juice. He put it on chicken and other meats too. That sounds really yummy.

They cooked in my crockpot for about 10 hours. They were falling off the bone. The ones we cooked in the oven were only in there a couple hours.

Have you ever had a whole chicken with garlic roasted inside it? That sounds pretty good. I'm reading this crazy garlic recipe in my "Totally Garlic Cookbook" where you put the cloves of garlic under the skin. I think I might be entering an experimental chicken phase. On The Today Show, they were cooking different types of hens with citrus fruits in them one day. They poked an orange all over and cooked it inside a chicken and I think they put a lemon inside a cornish game hen. Now that the weather has cooled off, I'm more in the mood to cook again. :P

OK, this isn't an exact science with what you put in the potatoes, but here's how you roast garlic. Cut off the top, spread butter on the exposed cloves, drizzle a little olive oil on it while it's placed in a little dish of some sort that you can cover (maybe poke a couple small holes in it). Place in a cold oven and turn it to 300 degrees and bake it for 45 minutes. Uncover it, baste with olive oil, cook uncovered for 9 minutes (9 minutes works best in my oven), then repeat this process two more times and the garlic cloves should be nice and soft. You can squeeze them out or scoop them out with a butter knife. Boil the potatoes until they're tender, drain, mash in some butter until it melts, beat with an electric mixer and add some milk (or cream if you want them to be extra evil), then add some cheeses - maybe some gorgonzola and a bag of mixed Italian cheeses, you might want some salt, maybe some herbs in it. A whole head of roasted garlic might be a little much for you. I used a whole head with about six potatoes and I didn't mind because I love garlic. They're also yummy when you add a little olive oil. :P
