I just want to add that I think these are the best smilies I've ever come across.... my particular favorite is

:P

don't know why... just is.

Now back to the meat....

Russ I think it's about your turn.

I've heard of people having a beef with LDS doctrine before, but this takes the steak!

Now excuse me while I go to bed before I bring out the sexually inapproprate meat jokes.

Personally, I think those who command to abstain from meats are apostates. However, it is bad to eat too much. Just ask my cardiologist, who has me pretty much abstaining from red meat. :P

In fact, my cardiologist is taking a lot of the rest of the fun out of life, too. Maybe he is some sort of extreme Baptist or something.

Spoiled meat can be fatal if eaten, and in former times meat spoiled more readily in summer than winter. Modern methods of refrigeration now make it possible to preserve meat in any season.

:P One wonders if the CES guys that wrote this have heard of jerky or smoked meats.

So your complaint is that the members of the Church don't eat meat "only in times of winter and famine"? Thus, the Church is false, or?

More than just that.

My complaints are thus:

1) The author of the D&C has imposed an un-biblical, unneccesary, legalistic, alleged commandment from the LORD upon us as people. God never said, "Don't have meat in summer." But the D&C tells us that God DID say that. It's sin to attribute a commandment of man to God.

2) You've been lied to. And you bought it. That bothers me. It's like taking your car to the mechanic and he tells you that you need a $2,500 transmission replacement when all you really needed was to have your transmission fluid changed.

It's not a commandment. Never has been, still isn't (and no, Brigham Young didn't make it a commandment). So, a non-commandment cannot be said in any way to be legalistic, much less a sin to attribute it to God (if indeed it really did come from God). It is at this point a requirement to get a temple recommend.

How do you know we've been lied to? Because your simplistic and incorrect reading of Mormonism conflicts with your reading of the Bible?

Sorry, not buying here.

Why not?

The LDS commandment is there to not eat meat in summer.

LOL!

Love it.

Russ. Your being foolish here. You claimed, "The LDS commandment is there to not eat meat in summer."

I will now type super slow so you can get it this time. The above statement is a flat out lie and you know it. I have shown you that the WoW was not given as a commandement. Then you spew this crap from your keyboard. There is no such commandment to not eat meat only in times of winter or famine. The WoW is just that a word of wisdom. I see you are incaple of seriously thinking through an issue. I am done with this thread. Further more when confronted, you just claim the bible tells me this is false, then you fail to provider a refrence. The Bible never claimed to be finished, if it doesnt claim that, then how can you go around gloating that I dont need the D&C. You arent even trying to see the LDS perspective here. You have a closed mind on the issues. Good day.

I think he's just trying to get himself banned so he can whine about it. His last link is an obvious indication of that.

you must be a really busy guy if you feel you have to right the percieved deception of millions of people.

how do you have time for that wife of yours?

one thing you are failing to see is that we are not children, we are fully capable of making enlightened choices, and I am confident in saying that not one of the people you are arguing with has not had their beliefs and faith tested. We are not blind, we follow because we know. because we have tested our boundaries, and our faith and found it to be what we were taught. The Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We are not blind, nor are we childishly decieved. and I pity anyone who would take their time and energy to lead people away from their faith with such blatant disregard and disrespect.

Wow! Still no reply on my posts about Paul's recommendation that people not eat meat if it offends their brother. Still no comment on the fact that Paul the biblical apostle taught his followers that he would never eat meat again if it offended his brother and that he encouraged them to do the same. Will there ever be a comment on this, Russ? I thought not...

Mason: Paul is likely not interested in Biblical precedent, as we already discussed it. Or rather, I discussed it and he responded to something else I said instead of addressing that core issue.

The fact that the WoW may or may not be unecessary, legalistic, or a commandment is worth discussing. However I am interested in how exactly you intend to prove that it is un-biblical. You have also suggested that it contradicts the bible somewhere in this thread.

How, might I ask, is it unbiblical? What exactly does it mean for something to be unbiblical? Is it unbiblical only because an equivalent command or counsel is not found in the bible? D

How, might I ask, does it contradict the bible? Is there a specific passage in the bible that teaches that meat should be eaten all times of the year, and in great quantities?

If your point is that Joseph Smith taught something that isn't found in the bible, we don't care. That is what we would expect a Prophet to do.

If your point is that Joseph Smith taught something that is specifically contradicted by a passage in the bible, then please for the love of all things meat show us where it is.

The Doctrine & Covenants contradicts the Bible? :ZZZZ: (Does anybody know how to import that "sleeping smiley" into MA&DB so I can edit my post further to indicate how scintiallating I find this particular "news flash"?

LOP,

Please read this again while thinking Mason was talking about the apostle known as Paul in the Bible:

My wife just cooked up some maahhvellouss baked potatoes and boiled corn while I stepped outside to grill a couple of perfect medium well New York strips. I got lucky that they came out perfect. Mmmm, mmm, goooooddd!! Dang, that was one good steak. But I got to thunkin'...

D&C 89 states meat should only be used in times of famine or winter.

But our Bibles tells us that meat is okay any time of year. All things in moderation.

This section of the D&C just doesn't align with our Bibles.

Which one should I believe? The D&C or my Bible?

Gotta go with the Bible...again.

As usual.... You are not interpreting LDS theology properly.

The "famine or EXCESS HUNGER" statement refers to wild animals & BUGS....!!!

And the terminology of "should not be used" is a reversal, meaning it's OKAY that such is to be used at "other" times than winter etc.

Learn english....

Well, how super condescending of you.

The above statement is a flat out lie and you know it.

And you call me a liar too?

Have I not shown you that WoW states that is supposedly pleasing to God to abstain from meat when it's warm outside or unless times of famine?

I have shown you that the WoW was not given as a commandement.

D&C 89 states differently.

Then you spew this crap from your keyboard.

Now I spew crap?

There is no such commandment to not eat meat only in times of winter or famine.

Not even in D&C 89?

Mocking you would be superfluous.

P.S. And kudos to T-Shirt for that lesson in Church history. I read it, though it is obvious Russ did not.
