D&C 89 states meat should only be used in times of famine or winter.

But our Bibles tells us that meat is okay any time of year. All things in moderation.

This section of the D&C just doesn't align with our Bibles.

Which one should I believe? The D&C or my Bible?

Well the D and C is for the saints today so I would listen to that one. I try to follow the Lord's counsel and to eat meat sparingly.

Saints, as a whole, seemed to have neglected this.

I think it is important to point out the way in which the various parts of this Word of Wisdom are given.

Strong drink, tobacco, and hot drinks are NOT FOR THE BODY. There is no ambiguity about whether or not we are to use those substances.

However, "it is pleasing unto me" that meat not be consumed except in the winter or in cold seasons. The stress is definently not placed on this piece of advice as it is on the others.

Furthermore, because we believe in continued revelation, we believe that commandments and council such as these are always subject to change depending on the place and time we live in. For example, we obviously drink ''hot drinks'', but today the term ''hot drinks'' means something different then it did in Joseph's day. "Strong drinks" has been identified as alchoholic beverages, and "tobacco" has been extended to include all illegal drugs.

We live in a very different day and age, and luckily for us we have a living prophet who can establish how exactly to interpret the scriptures. Can you say the same?
