Honestly, if it makes you feel better, think about divorce and how that one is far more explicit in language, in the bible coming straight from Christ, and yet the divorce rate is still through the roof. You can also think of words like individual interpretation, spirit of the law, and that sort of stuff.

Yes, let Russ stay. It's nice to see another anti-Mormon hint at the long list of correct thoughts and doctrines we need to believe in order to be saved (none of which having much to do with actual Christian living), then have the nerve to call us legalistic.

My wife just cooked up some maahhvellouss baked potatoes and boiled corn while I stepped outside to grill a couple of perfect medium well New York strips. I got lucky that they came out perfect. Mmmm, mmm, goooooddd!! Dang, that was one good steak. But I got to thunkin'...

D&C 89 states meat should only be used in times of famine or winter.

But our Bibles tells us that meat is okay any time of year. All things in moderation.

This section of the D&C just doesn't align with our Bibles.

Which one should I believe? The D&C or my Bible?

I sincerely believe the D&C is incorrect (uninspired). Is it okay to say that? (Just checking.) And I sometimes add a little humor along the way. Alas, it wasn't appreciated. Okay, every comic bombs now and then. Tough crowd.

Let me ask you, then. Do you believe meat in warm weather is a sin? Do you believe that meat should only be used in times of famine or cold?

I think it is important to point out the way in which the various parts of this Word of Wisdom are given.

Strong drink, tobacco, and hot drinks are NOT FOR THE BODY. There is no ambiguity about whether or not we are to use those substances.

However, "it is pleasing unto me" that meat not be consumed except in the winter or in cold seasons. The stress is definently not placed on this piece of advice as it is on the others.

Furthermore, because we believe in continued revelation, we believe that commandments and council such as these are always subject to change depending on the place and time we live in. For example, we obviously drink ''hot drinks'', but today the term ''hot drinks'' means something different then it did in Joseph's day. "Strong drinks" has been identified as alchoholic beverages, and "tobacco" has been extended to include all illegal drugs.

We live in a very different day and age, and luckily for us we have a living prophet who can establish how exactly to interpret the scriptures. Can you say the same?

Oh yeah, one more thing.

In many Christian countries blood sausage is popular, even though the Bible (and even the New Testament!) preaches against it.

What if a certain comma was placed in verse 13 by mistake. Here is what it would say without the comma:

Incorrect. JS made no such claim that eating meat is a sin.

Russ. Lets look at what the open of the section 89 says. IT says not by way of commandment. When the WoW was originally given it was not a commandment. Later it was revealed that certain things the Lord expects of us. So you orignial statement is false in and of its self. I can eat meat all I want and it will never be counted as a sin. It has been speculated that meat was no longer a concearn of for the summer months becuase of the firdge. Meat goes bad in the summer and is hard to keep freash.
