kamenraider Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 What about all those mormon plig girls, they dress in full dresses and jeans, but they end up in a sexual relations at much younger ages than the gals in bikini's.redeemed That's o.k. because the sexual relations are with their husbands husband.
Lamanite Posted September 4, 2007 Author Posted September 4, 2007 This is an issue that has bothered men for thousands of years. How can I remain chaste with all that tempting flesh on display? How can I dull my natural carnal instincts? How can I further indulge my religion's innate distaste for all things sexual? Well, look no more my friend. This Gordian Knot has been conquered. Behold: I give you, the Solution:And even though I don't fully approve, for those who wish to skirt the boundaries of good taste and modesty, here's a racy swimsuit:(As you can see, the woman's face is showing, which could lead to inappropriate carnal thoughts. It is for this reason that I advise anyone to think long and hard before donning such unrighteous apparel.)LOL. Point taken. What's funny is that I discussed this question with my Bishop after my Temple recommend interview, and he said he still struggles with the same thing. Simply he couseled that when the thoughts come, Stop Them! I guess me and my bishop should head over to whatever "Anonymous" there is for guys like us and give our recommends back.

We all know how flip-flops are abominable in the eyes of God. Here's a good talk for everyone's entertainment: http://www.byui.edu/Presentations/Transcri...Bednarsusan.htm. Lamanite, I advise that you talk to your ward's RS and YW presidents and suggest that it be printed out and distributed to all women in your ward. Especially the young and hot ones. That'll remind them how to properly reverence womanhood and not show priesthood holders the "high heaven" (I'm afraid to even think what that was referring to...)

grego Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 You can try NLP and hypnosis, along with EFT. I have no clue why a girl in your ward would be wearing a small bikini...
kamenraider Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 "But girls, when you wear a dress, you need to sit with your legs together, close together. When you are sitting up in the bleachers, put your feet down in front of you, not up on the next bleacher; you'd be amazed at what you can see."--Susan Bednar, Brigham Young Universityâ??Idaho 6th Stake Fireside, September 16, 2001
Lamanite Posted September 4, 2007 Author Posted September 4, 2007 Perhaps a few questions first. How old are you and where do you live? But if you think that a women, wearing a bikini in front of you, is in any way causing you some, or any, type of immoral thought or action, IT IS YOUR PROBLEM, not hers.If I guessed you lived in Utah or Idaho, would I be accurate? Or maybe Mesa Arizona?Honest to God, this is ridiculous in todays day and age for those of us who are mature enough to step out in the world. Why should the comfort and confidence of a women be construed as anything less than what she wants it to be.32YO. West Jordan, UT. Happily married with kids.If you honestly think that a bikini clad women has no affect on a man then ask yourself why they are displayed so prominently in a great deal of advertising. (Hint: it's not because men are attracted to the bright colors of the swimsuit). Moreover, your wife and daughters comfort and confidence can be displayed just as easily in a one piece suit. Otherwise, the confidence is a result of something other than inner beauty.
Lamanite Posted September 4, 2007 Author Posted September 4, 2007 Quote No. 1 -- Speaking in a session of October general conference, this prophet said:. . . I have another matter that weighs upon my mind . . . with respect to the women, and more particularly with regard to the manner in which they dress. Never, perhaps, at least within the period of my life--and I have lived in the world nearly seventy-five years--never, I say within the period of my life and experience have I seen such obscene, uncleanly, impure, and suggestive fashions of women's dress as I see today. Some of them are abominable. I lift my voice against these audacious practices and these infamous fashions . . . (Joseph F. Smith, October Conference, 1913, Life of Joseph F. Smith, p. 405).Who was it? When did he say it? Sounds like President Hinckley could have said this today, doesn't it?Quote No. 2 -- Listen to the words of another prophet in general conference:I am ashamed, as I walk the streets of our cities, at the lack of modesty in the dresses, not only of our young people, but our mothers and even grandmothers. I will rejoice when there shall come over this land again an increased respect for the sacredness of the body and a willingness on the part of our good, pure, upright ladies to dress themselves in a more becoming manner (Heber J. Grant, Conference Report, April 1926, p. .Who was the prophet? What was the year?Quote No. 3:Be modest. Modesty in dress and language and deportment is a true mark of refinement and a hallmark of a virtuous Latter-day Saint woman. Shun the low and vulgar and the suggestive (Ezra T. Benson, "To the Young Women of the Church," Ensign 16 [November 1986]: 83).This has to do with dress on the streets. I think this quote could easily be applied to swimwear.
Kenngo1969 Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 And this has nothing to do with temple worthiness.Perhaps your bishop or stake president, and/or Lamanite's bishop and/or stake president, would beg to differ. (Lamanite, I'm talking about how the young woman was dressed, not about how you [didn't] react[ed]). It does, however, have a lot to do with simply growing up and having a little more respect for women, and having a little more control of yourself.Lamanite sounds more than grown up enough to me, and if he lacked any control, you'll have to point out where you got that from his post. While I do think men have a responsibility to be more than Walking Testosterone Factories, and while I don't think women ever "ask" to be assaulted, I do think women bear more than a little responsibility for how we react to them based on how they dress. If women want men to respect them, perhaps they ought to demonstrate better that they respect themselves by how they choose to dress. I don't think that's unreasonable. (And no, Yme, when I say that women ought to demonstrate self-respect by how they dress, I'm not saying they ought to "flaunt it" if they've "got it." ) If I had a significant other, I'd be impressed enough by her if she were to dress in a modest one-piece. If she were to dress in anything else, I would wonder who else she is trying to impress.
jerryp48 Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Absolutely one of the most vicious and and un-Christian responses I have ever seen here.Really? What did you think I meant?
Kenngo1969 Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 But if you think that a women, wearing a bikini in front of you, is in any way causing you some, or any, type of immoral thought or action, IT IS YOUR PROBLEM, not hers.Au contraire! It's been my experience that the more anxious a woman is to show you what she's got on the outside, the less she's got on the inside.
BCSpace Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 As you can see, the woman's face is showing, which could lead to inappropriate carnal thoughts. It is for this reason that I advise anyone to think long and hard before donning such unrighteous apparel.)Look at all that ankle! But you're right in a way. I can easily imagine the beauty of the woman (and fill in all the details) whose face is showing and whose form is still discernable, but those who faces are covered hardly seem human to me (could be a factor on how women are treated in Muslim countries).I am not ashamed to be a man nor am I ashamed to say I can and do appreciate the beauty of a woman. The woman in the 'unIslamic' apparel is quite attractive. Now that ought to be a clue to women that they don't have to dress immodestly to catch the eye.
rpn Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 But I'll bet you didn't offer her your shirt or a towel? And I also suspect that thoughts stray that way even when someone is wearing a perfectly modest swimming suit. And for that matter, a beautiful and modest dress.
BCSpace Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 And I also suspect that thoughts stray that way even when someone is wearing a perfectly modest swimming suit. And for that matter, a beautiful and modest dress. They do indeed. But one need not suppose that one has committed anything even close to being as serious as adultery when thoughts stray as that is not the jist of Matthew 5:28. IMHO, the problem occurs when one cannot tear oneself away from staring. That would be lust.
structurecop Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Au contraire! It's been my experience that the more anxious a woman is to show you what she's got on the outside, the less she's got on the inside. It's been my experience that the more a woman obsesses over how modestly she (or others) should dress, the more self-righteous and hypocritical she is. Shall we continue with the baseless generalizations?
battlefieldboy Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 At first I thought this thread was a Joke but now I realize that it is serious. The scary part is the thinking from some of the males that responded that it is the woman's fault for putting the dirty thoughts in their minds. I have seen the word self control used to incorporate many themes within the church it should be applied here too. I figure she is probably a very attractive woman who is either getting tan and showing off her body to attract a male who will take care of her needs or she is someone's wife that is making sure she is taking care of herself to continue to make her marriage lively. What you consider revealing others might consider modest. What you consider modest others might consider revealing.
tolkienapostle Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 wow, great topic. I live in Las Vegas and this kind of dress, or lack therof is considered normal even while shopping in the mall. The mall my wife works, she models(the mall actually has a runway!)that actually pays women and men to walk around in swimming suits to draw in shoppers. (I keep teasing m wife that she should really bring home th ebacon and start that gig) To say that i think it is ok is a longshot... mostly im worried that i have been desensitzed.

Shall we continue with the baseless generalizations? You go your way, and I'll go mine. I offered an observation based on my experience. If that qualifies as a baseless generalization in your world, so be it. Have a nice day.
freakin a man Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 At first I thought this thread was a Joke but now I realize that it is serious. The scary part is the thinking from some of the males that responded that it is the woman's fault for putting the dirty thoughts in their minds.Women do have some responsiblity to help their fellow man not stumble. I have been in this position before. There have been times I though about wearing a small speedo but I did not want to put bad, lustful thoughts in the head of women. So I resorted to wearing jeans instead.
Hoops22 Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 I don't know where this thread belongs but I usually post here so I put it here.I just moved into a townhome that has a community swimming pool. I went the other day, and in walked one of the most attractive twenty somethings in my area wearing a bright green string bikini. She also happens to be in my ward. She then walked over to say hi. I'm at that point having a hard time remembering what she is saying, and trying to keep eye contact. She's says bye and I'm trying to look at my book and not watch her walk away (which I failed to do). Now, I fought internally any recall of the event until now and refused to ruminate on any image that may want to resurface. It is a struggle to maintain chaste within my own mind within the course of a normal day, without some girl prancing around me 98% naked. My question is does these young women bear any responsibility? Also, will this primal reaction ever go away for us men.(im assuming I'm not the only one).Any chance your ward will be having a Mormon/Evangelical swimming party? And will you invite me?
cartoon bluejay Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 I'm being dead serious. Am I the only one that loves my wife of 10 years and am completely attracted to her and still has to exercise control over the reactionary thoughts that are a result of seeing another attractive female? I'm irritated at the sister for not having the decency to show up to the pool in a modest swimsuit!!@!I don't know what the problem is - she obviously helped you to realize that you still have a healthy attraction for beautiful women. You shouldn't be irritated - I would think you would praise the Lord for sending her your way. There's nothing wrong with a good look. She obviously had no problem with you looking since she came right over to talk to you. Hey! and if she didn't leave much to the imagination - at least you've got something to take home to your wife. It sounds like it's all good to me. As far as the women taking responsibility for your reaction - sorry - it's all yours.
