  1. You’ve got me wondering why many former believers want to believe there is no God, no day of redemption and no ultimate victory of good over evil? I’m wondering what the allure of nihilism might be?
  2. Do you find anything deficient or unreasonable in the following explanations from Adam and Eve as to why there is a need to experience the fall ? 9 And in that day the Holy Ghost fell upon Adam, which beareth record of the Father and the Son, saying: I am the Only Begotten of the Father from the beginning, henceforth and forever, that as thou hast fallen thou mayest be redeemed, and all mankind, even as many as will. 10 And in that day Adam blessed God and was filled, and began to prophesy concerning all the families of the earth, saying: Blessed be the name of God, for because of my transgression my eyes are opened, and in this life I shall have joy, and again in the flesh I shall see God. 11 And Eve, his wife, heard all these things and was glad, saying: Were it not for our transgression we never should have had seed, and never should have known good and evil, and the eternal life which giveth unto all the obedient. (Moses 5) So is the fact that life would be utterly meaningless, barren, and devoid of in-depth wisdom and joy a sufficient reason to have to experience the fallen nature? Or do you think God should just somehow try find a way to to bestow all the above mentioned blessings without his children first being put through a test commensurate in challenge to the wonderful blessings received?
  3. So God may not be an enemy of the natural man, even though God and the natural man have opposite goals and share nothing at all in common? 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. Perhaps your idea may be more correctly stated by saying God isn’t against the idea of his children having to temporarily take upon themselves a fallen nature that they might learn, through their own most intimate experience, how to overcome evil with the redeeming goodness of God. In this view, the only way the fallen nature can be viewed in any way as a positive is if its destructive, anti-God influence is successfully overcome through faith in Jesus Christ.
  4. The Book of Mormon answers your question about what coming to know all things will feel like.: 41 And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it. (Mosiah 2) In addition, the prophets who were given the big, panoramic picture of God’s dealings with man, like the Brother of Jared, Lehi, Nephi and the Apostle John, were filled with joy at what they learned: 14 And it came to pass that when my father had read and seen many great and marvelous things, he did exclaim many things unto the Lord; such as: Great and marvelous are thy works, O Lord God Almighty! Thy throne is high in the heavens, and thy power, and goodness, and mercy are over all the inhabitants of the earth; and, because thou art merciful, thou wilt not suffer those who come unto thee that they shall perish! 15 And after this manner was the language of my father in the praising of his God; for his soul did rejoice, and his whole heart was filled, because of the things which he had seen, yea, which the Lord had shown unto him. (1 Nephi 1) I fully trust the experience will be exactly the same for me.
  5. So does this indicate you believe the inheritors of the Telestial Kingdom will remain unrepentant after their resurrection, even though, D&C 76 testifies they will receive the ministry of the Holy Spirit in eternity and that at the time of their resurrection they will bow the knee to God the Father and confess unto him that Jesus is the Christ? If so, it helps me to understand why your so churlish. 😊
  6. Based on the following words of testimony from Alma, t’s hard to imagine that the resurrection from the dead for the unrepentant can in anyway be construed to be some sort of “gift.” 16 And now behold, I say unto you then cometh a death, even a second death, which is a spiritual death; then is a time that whosoever dieth in his sins, as to a temporal death, shall also die a spiritual death; yea, he shall die as to things pertaining unto righteousness. 17 Then is the time (the time of resurrection of the unrepentant) when their torments shall be as a lake of fire and brimstone, whose flame ascendeth up forever and ever; and then is the time that they shall be chained down to an everlasting destruction, according to the power and captivity of Satan, he having subjected them according to his will. 18 Then, I say unto you, they shall be as though there had been no redemption made; for they cannot be redeemed according to God’s justice; and they cannot die, seeing there is no more corruption. (Alma 12)
  7. Actually, Scott’s comment speaks to the proper usage of words, based on their actual definition, rather than on grammar. I’m grateful Scott made this point because I now have a clearer understanding of the difference between inferring and implying. To infer is to make an educated guess, while imply means to hint.
  8. None will obtain an inheritance in any of God’s kingdoms of post-resurrection glory unless they are first willing to bow the knee to God the Father and confess to him that Jesus is the Christ. The name of Christ is the only name given under heaven whereby men must be saved. No acknowledgement of Christ as Redeemer means no salvation in any of the kingdoms of glory. The utter refusal to acknowledge Christ as Lord and Savior is the very essence of the unpardonable sin. It’s also critically important to understand that while it’s indeed possible to suffer for one’s own sins in the spirit prison it’s impossible to atone for one’s own sins because only an infinite and eternal being (God) can offer up the required infinite and eternal atoning sacrifice for sin. 106 These are they who are cast down to hell and suffer the wrath of Almighty God, until the fulness of times, when Christ shall have subdued all enemies under his feet, and shall have perfected his work; 107 When he shall deliver up the kingdom, and present it unto the Father, spotless, saying: I have overcome and have trodden the wine-press alone, even the wine-press of the fierceness of the wrath of Almighty God. 108 Then shall he be crowned with the crown of his glory, to sit on the throne of his power to reign forever and ever. 109 But behold, and lo, we saw the glory and the inhabitants of the telestial world, that they were as innumerable as the stars in the firmament of heaven, or as the sand upon the seashore; 110 And heard the voice of the Lord saying: These all shall bow the knee, and every tongue shall confess to him who sits upon the throne forever and ever; (D&C 76) The above last verse references the following… 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Those who obtain the telestial kingdom will eventually receive forgiveness of their sins through Christ. It’s only the sons of perdition who won’t be redeemed through faith in Christ because they steadfastly refuse to acknowledge him as Lord and Savior. And remember, no man can say Jesus is the Christ — and really believe and mean it — unless it be by the power of the Holy Ghost, which is why the inheritors of the telestial kingdom are ministered to by the Holy Spirit whose most important mission is to testify of the Father and the Son.
  9. Yes. And though not specifically stated, it’s clear that even after the Second Coming there will always be authorized priesthood ministers in the spirit world to preach the gospel to those in the spirit prison prior to the final judgement in order to assure that all the dead will have been given sufficient time and ample instruction to either accept or reject Christ as their Savior. In other words, there won’t be a single individual who won’t be given sufficient time (at vert least 1000 years) and instruction to decide if they’d rather spend eternity in one of the Father’s many mansions of post-resurrection glory or in hell. This is a God who truly is the embodiment of perfect justice, mercy and love!
  10. Am I. correct in assuming you perceive the human procreation that’s been continuing on planet earth for thousands of years to also be “a bit pointless,” even though the Lord says his primary work and glory is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of embodied man? I’m perplexed as to why a believing member of the Church would question the purpose and worth of obtaining his own body when it’s such a bedrock teaching of the Church? It seems as though no matter how sacred a teaching of the Church might be that there’s almost always going to be what appears to be a dismissive, sarcastic comment about it. I don’t get it…
  11. Did a 20 minute Google search and found nada. The one source that looked promising has since been deleted.
  12. I’m guessing you either never read Doctrine and Covenants 138, or, if you have read it, you most certainly didn’t digest and comprehend it’s contents. Try reading Section 138 with an open mind (temporarily putting aside your preconceived notions) and see if what’s written there squares with your present state of understanding with regard to the salvation of the wicked and rebellious who are held within the spirit prison in the great world of the departed dead?
  13. Do your beliefs bring you joy, hope, peace and a deep sense of meaning and purpose to your life? Or do your beliefs make you feel gloomy, hopeless and dejected? I ask in all sincerity because I’m genuinely interested to know if unbelief can be conducive to genuine human happiness in the same way that faith in God often brings a sense of joy to believers. And if your unbelief does indeed bring you a true sense of happiness, is the reason why you so avidly participate on this board because you want to help others experience the same joy you experience in your unbelief? This inquiring mind very much wants to know?
  14. “I testify that wickedness is rapidly expanding in every segment of our society. (See D&C 1:14–16; D&C 84:49–53.) It is more highly organized, more cleverly disguised, and more powerfully promoted than ever before. Secret combinations lusting for power, gain, and glory are flourishing. A secret combination that seeks to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries is increasing its evil influence and control over America and the entire world.” (See Ether 8:18–25.) (I Testify, Ezra Taft Benson, General Conference Address, October 1988) and… 23 Wherefore, O ye Gentiles, it is wisdom in God that these things should be shown unto you, that thereby ye may repent of your sins, and suffer not that these murderous combinations shall get above you, which are built up to get power and gain—and the work, yea, even the work of destruction come upon you, yea, even the sword of the justice of the Eternal God shall fall upon you, to your overthrow and destruction if ye shall suffer these things to be. 24 Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you; or wo be unto it, because of the blood of them who have been slain; for they cry from the dust for vengeance upon it, and also upon those who built it up. (Ether Chapter eight) I’ll never forget that strange Sunday morning in October of 1988 when a prophet of God announced to the world that Moroni’s terrifying prophecy of a gigantic secret combination that would be set up by the devil in the last days to destroy the freedom of the entire world was being fulfilled even as he spoke. I was astonished because I looked around and realized that, with the exception of Yours Truly, not a single soul in the entire congregation seemed to realize that a most momentous and sobering prophetic pronouncement had just been made. It was then that I realized Moroni’s hope that the general membership of the Church would awaken to a sense of their awful situation in time to do something about this devilish business would not be realized. This prophesied satanic storm has now had 33 years to gather additional strength and consolidate its control, and the fact that so many members of the Church appear be totally blind to what’s obviously raging all around them proves John the Revelator was correct when he warned that Babylon the Great would have tremendous success in blinding and deceiving nearly the entire world prior to the Second Coming of Christ, even including some of the very elect. It’s going to be interesting to hear all the excuses why so many of those who should have known better ended up being deceived by the devil . Personally, I think the main reason why so many are being deceived is because, when you get right down to it, in their heart of hearts most secret combination skeptics ot don’t really believe the Church is true.
  15. Even in LDS theology, no one can be saved in even the lowest kingdom of heavenly glory until they come unto a Christ and acknowledge to God the Father that Jesus Christ is Savior and Lord. 109 But behold, and lo, we saw the glory and the inhabitants of the telestial world, that they were as innumerable as the stars in the firmament of heaven, or as the sand upon the seashore; 110 And heard the voice of the Lord saying: These all shall bow the knee, and every tongue shall CONFESS * to him who sits upon the throne forever and ever; (D&C 76) * 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2) and… 57 I beheld that the faithful elders of this dispensation, when they depart from mortal life, continue their labors in the preaching of the gospel of repentance and redemption, through the sacrifice of the Only Begotten Son of God, among those who are in darkness (the spirit prison) and under the bondage of sin in the great world of the spirits of the dead. 58 The dead who repent will be redeemed, through obedience to the ordinances of the house of God, 59 Add after they have paid the penalty of their transgressions (a clear reference to the wicked who are thrust into hell at death to suffer for their sins in the spirit prison until the last resurrection), and are washed clean, shall receive a reward according to their works, for they are heirs of salvation. (D&C 138) The prophets in Bible and the Book of Mormon speak the truth when they testify that the only way anyone can be saved is through belief in Jesus Christ. This is why Doctrine and Covenants 76 testifies that the inheritors of the telestial kingdom of glory will dwell in the presence of the Holy Ghost, whose primary mission is to testify of God the Father and his atoning Son.
  16. The infinite and eternal atonement is not a “human sacrifice.” I’m sure you know this very well. 10 For it is expedient that there should be a great and last sacrifice; yea, not a sacrifice of man, neither of beast, neither of any manner of fowl; for it shall not be a human sacrifice; but it must be an infinite and eternal sacrifice. (Alma 34)
  17. Since half of Christ’s genetic makeup comes from his Father, whose ethnicity is unknown, all bets are off when it comes to what Christ actually looks like.
  18. The Trinitarians will freely admit that the Trinity is an incomprehensible mystery, far beyond the understanding of man. So until they can comprehend and clearly define the nature of the Trinity, a dialogue with the Trinitarians based on logic and reason is impossible. For all the Trinitarians know, when the mystery of the Trinity is finally revealed, it might very well turn out that the Latter-Day Saints had it right all along. As for the LDS understanding of the unity of the three members of the Godhead is concerned, almost all Latter-Day Saints totally miss an extremely important element of the story, and that is that there must be three members of the Godhead, each acting in his own specific, indispensable role, in order for any one member of the Godhead to be able to properly function in his own particular divine role. For example, God the Father cannot act in his roll as Father and supreme Creator unless he works in conjunction with a second personage who is God the atoning Redeemer. Without God the Redeemer there would be no way for the Father’s creations to become resurrected and eternally saved. In other words, without Christ there would be no meaningful point to any creation. The same principle holds true for each member of the Godhead: they cannot fulfill their divine roles without the other two members of the Godhead working with him in holy unison. Bottom line? There is and can be no God unless there is a Creator Father, Redeeming Son, and Testating Holy Spirit. Individual action is impossible without the three members of the Godhead acting in perfect unity and harmony with each other, each perfectly fulfilling his own eternally indispensable role.
  19. The “dead” (represented by proxies) are standing right there and are the central focus of the prayers.
  20. I can’t imagine a greater imaginable example of the living turning their hearts to their dead relatives, and intervening mightily in their behalf, to the end that they might obtain salvation, than the great Latter-Day Saint program of the redemption of the dead. Please take thoughtful note the following: 1) While seeking out the vital records of their dead, so that vicarious saving gospel ordinances might be performed in the temples on their behalf, it’s standard practice for those thus engaged to pray earnestly for divine assistance and guidance to the end that the earthly vital records of their lives might be located to facilitate in the process of their salvation. 2) Prior to the saving vicarious ordinances being performed in the temples, it’s standard practice for members to pray to God that the sacred rites that are about to be performed will have their intended effect on the dead for whom the ordinances have been vicariously performed. 3) When individuals are serving in the temples as proxies for the dead, it is, in reality, the dead themselves who are being baptized after baptismal prayers are offered on their behalf; and again, in reality it’s the dead themselves who are confirmed members of the Church and given the gift of the Holy Ghost after the confirmatory prayers are offered in behalf of the dead. 4) Again, when those who serve as proxies for the dead participate in the initiatory ordinances of the temple, it’s the dead themselves who are the recipients of the prayers of blessing that are pronounced during washings and anointings offered on their behalf. 5) Fast forward to the prayer circle and your mistaken notion that prayers should not be made for the dead is blown out of the water. I could go on and on, but by now you must surely get my point. Sometimes it really is true that the proverbial forest can’t be seen for the many obscuring trees.
  21. I really had a good chuckle over your first line! Yeah that’s the ticket, just be like all the other apostate churches that are abandoning the law of chastity, and the solemnity of God’s holy commandment that men are to leave their father’s and mothers and cleave unto their wives with whom they are commanded to become one flesh (in holy imitation of the ideal marital relationship that’s enjoyed by our heavenly parents) and all will be well in Zion!. BALONEY! Just as Elder Holland said, no matter what we do to pacify and indulge our critics it will never be good enough, for the only thing that ever will be good enough will be to utterly reject every holy principle and doctrine that has heretofore characterized the Latter-Day Saints. And as sure as shooting, even the rejection of living prophets, priesthood authority, and the divine authenticity of the Book of Mormon will never be enough. Only a complete and utter rejection of the faith and the disbandment of the Church organization will suffice. How do I know? Because that’s what Satan wants and he “inspires” his followers to seek the same. What a great prescription for the future success of the Church— start taking advice and counsel from those who no longer believe the Church is true yet somehow believe they know best.
  22. What an eye opener! But it kind of ruins the aversion therapy narrative for the haters whose delight it is to paint all things related to the Church in the most negative light possible. Oh wait! I just realized that verifiable fact based corrections are no longer of any significance nor import in this day and age. So never mind, because in spite of a knowledge of the actual facts we’re going to continue to hear, ad nauseam, about the Church leader’s official sponsorship of hundreds of cruel and “barbaric” conversion therapy sessions, that were forced on the innocent, right up until the great angel blows the final horn.
  23. Good for you! You’ve just proven to yourself existence is some kind of weird, highly improbable cosmic accident, and that life is ephemeral, futile and ultimately meaningless. Now go and do whatever you please because there is no punishment for so-called ungodly behavior. You are now free from all restraint and the master of this great secret! Enjoy yourself!
  24. Anyone who possesses the spirit of revelation instantly knows the Book of Mormon came forward just as the Prophet Joseph Smith says it did — a mighty miracle of divine revelation from God. Those who can’t see this perfectly obvious heavenly truth (because they themselves are devoid of the spirit of revelation) will one day have their spiritual eyes opened so that they might clearly see their folly and be filled with wonderment as to how it was possible that they could have been so easily blinded and deceived when the perfectly obvious, unalloyed truth was staring them right in the face . When that day comes they will learn a sad lesson, that it is indeed good to be learned, but only when one has living faith in Christ and harkens to the counsels of God.
  25. No, it’s more important that traditional LDS ideas pertaining to the plan of salvation be upheld, even if the terrestrial being in question would eventually be more comfortable dwelling in the celestial kingdom. But why, you ask, do angels from heaven and beings from the terrestrial kingdom “minster” to the inhabitants of the telestial kingdom, as if they’re trying to help them to grow spiritually and progress? Well what’s actually happening is they’re rubbing the faces of those in the telestial kingdom in their eternally lost opportunity for dynamic spiritual growth and progression to higher realms of spiritual attainment. One of the great things about being in a higher kingdom of glory is all the fun that can be had by mocking and ridiculing those who “blew it.”
